Filter by:The scientific purpose of the Children's Harbor True North evaluation study is to use a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to analyze the effects produced by True North and compare the outcomes of the program and comparison groups. The type of research for the RCT impact evaluation is behavioral. The goal of the True North grant program is to successfully guide young adults who are randomly assigned to the program group through the transition from the foster care system to adulthood. The objectives of the True North program are to: 1) offer targeted, evidence-based healthy relationship interventions to the program group; 2) offer financial literacy to the program group in order for the participants to achieve greater economic stability; 3) provide job readiness sessions and connect the program group to subsidized and unsubsidized employment opportunities; and 4) match the young adults in the program group with a mentor to provide a permanent connection for guidance with relationship and financial issues. The overall hypothesis is that participation in the True North program will increase the likelihood that the young adults will improve their relationships, improve their financial and employment stability, and improve their wellbeing.
The bedside use of ultrasound after central venous catheter (CVCs) insertion has lagged behind other applications in medicine, thus presenting an opportunity for innovative, evidence-based research that will influence clinician behavior. This research focuses on bedside ultrasound applications as an example, to evaluate clinical practice change. Chest radiographs are associated with delays in initiating time-critical interventions and present an unexamined opportunity for improving patient care by evaluating the use of ultrasound in lieu of chest radiographs after CVC insertion. Strategic interventions for implementation are needed to hasten the adoption of this clinical innovation (ultrasound guided CVC confirmation protocol) allowing them to de-implement chest xrays when no longer indicated.
The objective of the study is to examine the extent to which diet/lifestyle change programs with a multidisciplinary team (consisting of a dietician, physician and behaviorist/health coach) that develop healthy behaviors before creating a calorie deficit for weight loss will result in greater weight loss and a longer duration of weight maintenance. It intends to compare the extent of weight loss and weight maintenance in participants who will undergo calorie restriction without prior behavioral interventions to participants that will undergo behavioral interventions prior to starting calorie restriction.
The purpose of this study is to characterize the existing health behaviors and obstacles to healthy lifestyle among the medical staff in a maternity ward in order to develop a specifically-tailored intervention to help improve the health behaviors of hospital shift workers.The findings will be used to establish a community-based participatory health-promoting program in the ward, engaging the staff in its development and implementation.
Understanding how different types of visual prompts and props could impact handwashing practices in humanitarian emergency settings could allow organisations managing camps to deliver hygiene interventions tailored to populations in humanitarian crises. The study aims to test how liquid soap, bar soap and the use of a mirror could impact handwashing behaviours. As such, this research could lead to participants increased handwashing, which should lead to decreased disease transmission of important infectious diseases. With the compliance of NGOs, and the working relationship that will be formed, the results of the research will be shared directly with them. It is likely they will immediately act on any findings.
This study will examine the effects of a school based exercise intervention programme on the behaviour and fitness levels in children with autism.
Stunting is still a major problem in developing countries, including Indonesia, and has been associated with impaired development. Stunted children have also a higher risk of metabolic syndrome in adulthood. The gut microbiota, as a part of intestinal integrity, may promote intake of nutrient during childhood. Probiotics supplementation may optimize the balance of gut microbiota and further improve child growth during the window period. Furthermore, calcium could also improve child growth by increasing the resistance to intestinal infection. However, the long-term effects of gut microbiota optimization during childhood using probiotics and calcium on growth, development, and the metabolic condition has not widely studied.
The study is designed to test the hypothesis that long term memory created by preoperative video information can reduce the incidence of post operative behavioral changes.
The investigators propose to develop and evaluate Link for Equity, a trauma-informed system of care. Link, a system of support for ACE-affected children, is composed of universal school Trauma-Informed Care. Preventing Racism through Awareness and Action (PRAA) is a perspective-taking racism/discrimination prevention intervention for school staff that increases awareness of racism and how it impacts students and promotes empathy for students of color. Link for Equity will be translated to be culturally responsive for 12 secondary public schools in metropolitan and rural Minnesota with substantial racial/ethnic minority students and racial/ethnic disparities in school discipline and violence. Using a nested, rigorous, and ethically acceptable randomized waitlist control design, the investigators will implement and evaluate Link for Equity sequentially for two years in each school. The overall goal is to evaluate if Link for Equity can reduce school violence disparities.
