Diagnosis of melanoma involves physical examination of the lesion with many dermatologists adjunctively employing dermoscopes. The rate of misdiagnosis of melanoma remains significant, along with a high rate of referral to biopsy. Elucid Labs (Waterloo, Ontario) has developed a novel handheld, digital dermoscope with accompanying visualization and analysis software - the Artificial Intelligence Dermatology Assistant (AIDA™). Apart from collecting conventional demoscopic images, AIDA also collects images at various spectral bands. The aim of this study is to understand and quantify the value of this novel adjunctive information for dermatologists diagnosing atypical skin lesions.

This pilot clinical trial studies isolated limb perfusion with melphalan in treating patients with stage IIIB-IV melanoma or sarcoma. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as melphalan, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Heating a chemotherapy solution and infusing it directly into the arteries around the tumor may kill more tumor cells.

Photodynamic Therapy Using Blue Light or Red Light in Treating Basal Cell Carcinoma in Patients With Basal Cell Nevus Syndrome

This pilot randomized phase II trial studies how well photodynamic therapy using blue light or red light works in treating basal cell cancer (carcinoma) in patients with a genetic condition that causes unusual facial features and disorders of the skin, bones, nervous system, eyes, and endocrine glands, also called basal cell nevus syndrome. Photodynamic therapy uses drugs, such as aminolevulinic acid hydrochloride, that are taken up by tumor cells and when exposed to an intensive light source (blue light or red light) become active and may kill the cells. It is not yet known whether photodynamic therapy is more effective with blue light or red light in treating basal cell carcinoma.

Chemoprevention therapy is the use of certain drugs to try to prevent the development of or recurrence of cancer. T4N5 liposomal lotion may be effective preventing the recurrence of nonmelanoma skin cancer in patients who have undergone a kidney transplant.
