Predictors of Muscle Injury Risk in Non-professional Football Players

Background. Football accounts for 30% of all sports injuries. Muscle injuries in football are the most common non-traumatic and non-contact injuries. A comprehensive approach to injury prevention must consider the design of the footwear and the environmental conditions in which the match is played. Objective. To assess the risk of injury as a function of footwear and field of play in non-professional football players and to identify the best predictive model of muscle injury in these athletes. Method. Ambispective cohort study. Ninety-seven players will be recruited. The primary variable will be the number of lower limb muscle injuries in the last 3 seasons. Secondary and modifying variables will be: age, body mass index, boot type, pitch turf, training load and field position. Potential confounding variables will be motivation for choice of footwear, date of muscle injuries, time playing in the category and presence in the starting team. The analysis will calculate the risk of adverse effects in these patients and assess the influence of confounders and trend analysis on the primary variable, stratified by potential confounders. Expected outcomes. To calculate the risk of muscle injury as a function of anthropometric variables, and footwear and turf type. To identify the predictive model of muscle injuries in football players.

The Effect of Different Instruction Trainings in Semi-Professional Female Athletes

Feedback is implanted into workouts to prevent lower extremity injuries. There are different studies where external focus and internal focus feedback were found to be superior. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of training on vertical jump landing technique by comparing a verbal training group that receives instructions with an external focus of attention and an internal focus of attention combined, a visual training group with video instructions, and a control group in female athletes with knee valgus. It is also to examine whether possible beneficial results are still present in the retention test performed one week after the test session. The secondary aim of our study is to examine the effect of the training provided on knee joint position sense.

Implementation of an Evidence-Based Intervention to Improve Head Impact Safety in Youth Football

The objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of implementing an evidence-based intervention program, COmmunities Aligned to reduce Concussion and Head impact exposure (COACH) on a larger scale. Coaches of 12U (12 years old and under), and 13U (13 years old and under) teams within six youth football organizations will pilot test the intervention. Aim 1 will conduct focus groups with coaches, parents, and organizational leaders to assess organizational needs, capacity, and readiness to adopt the intervention program. Aim 2 will evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention program at reducing HIE and injuries and evaluate implementation success. Aim 2 results (intervention outcomes) are reported herein.

Evaluation of Invisible Preparation Behaviors of Middle and High School Students in Sports Facilities (PRICELESS)

The investigators define the Invisible Preparation (IP) as the set of health behaviors that young athletes implement, on their own, to optimize their health and performances. This includes sleep, nutrition and hydration, physical well-being (injuries prevention) and mental well-being. If some studies have reported a lack of compliance in young athletes regarding sleep and hydration recommendations, the literature is poor in this field. The CMS (Brest Metropolitan Area Sports Medicine Centre, France) aims at preserving the health of young athletes. Prior to their medical examination, the patients will be asked, all along the year 2024, to fill out a form that question them about their health behaviors in the four areas of the IP. Under the direction of the Brest University Hospital, PRICELESS (Invisible Preparation of Middle and High School Students in Sports Institutions) study will try, based on their answers, to estimate the proportion of young athletes who declare adopting the health behaviors recommended in the IP.

Epidemiology of Injuries in the Professional Women's Swedish National IceHockey League Permitted to Body-Checking

This research project can contribute to a deeper understanding of injury patterns among professional female ice-hockey players allowed to body check. An understanding of common injury types and mechanisms aids the clinician in diagnosis and management. This information can guide preventative strategies in the areas of education, coaching, rule enforcement, rule modifications, equipment improvement, and sportsmanship. Today, ice hockey is a sport associated with many severe injuries that not only causes suffering and lower quality of life for the athlete, but also costs society a lot of money. Reducing the number and severity of sport-related injuries is therefore of importance. Knowledge of the injury epidemiology of women's hockey could also contribute to better preventive training programs and other injury preventive actions in the sport. Currently, only a minority of all sports medicine research is made on female study participants (26). This research project has the possibility to gain more knowledge about the female athlete, not only applicable for elite hockey-players, but also for female athletes in different disciplines and in youth teams. Knowledge of factors associated with injury could also contribute to better injury preventive actions and highlight subgroups in extra need of future preventive interventions.

"The Show Must go on" : The Experience of Injuries Among Dancers: Fears, Thoughts, and Beliefs. A Qualitative Study

This qualitative, cross-sectional study aims at describing the experience of Italian dancers with injury. Dancers face a high risk of sustaining one or more injuries during their career (87-94%), which may lead to physical, psychological, and socioeconomic consequences affecting dancer's lives and careers both short and long-term. Dancers report fearing injury and its consequences and believing in the existence of a stigma around injury and injured colleagues; many of them also try to self-manage pain and delay reporting injuries to healthcare professionals, possibly making its outcomes worse. This study will collect data from dancers via focus groups and individual interviews, investigating dancers' experiences, thoughts, and beliefs about injury. Records from the interviews will be transcribed ad verbatim and analyzed using the framework method to synthetize the data and highlight the most meaningful content. Understanding dancers' thoughts and behaviors regarding past or possible future injuries may be beneficial in improving treatment efficacy and designing adequate education and prevention strategies. It may also help raise awareness of dancers' complex and unique needs, and the importance of having accessible, specialized professionals around dance companies and schools.
