Filter by:The purpose of this study is to develop a negative work exercise regimen as an intervention for posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). "Negative work" is the force produced by muscles as they lengthen, and regularly occurs with common activities such as lowering an object from a shelf or walking down stairs. In this study, the investigators are examining the effectiveness of negative work exercise over a 12-week period in older, male, Veterans.
The study will specifically evaluate the potential of the C-Brace to improve the functional mobility and quality of life in individuals with lower extremity impairments due to neurologic or neuromuscular disease, orthopedic disease or trauma, as compared to the stance control orthosis.

Longitudinal study of patients with rheumatoid arthritis comparing measures of disease activity with blood samples.
The primary objective of this study is to obtain implant survivorship and clinical outcome data for commercially available Zimmer Trabecular Metal Total Ankle implants used in primary or revision total ankle arthroplasty. The assessment will include implant survivorship and clinical performance measured by pain and function, quality of life data, radiographic parameters and survivorship.
Pain control after knee replacement requires analgesia to both the top (anterior) and bottom (posterior) portion of the the knee. Presently we use a nerve block for the anterior portion. The investigators want to to examine if giving Exparel into the posterior portion will give better pain relief. Hypothesis: There is no difference in, the use of analgesics or the length and quality of analgesia and no decrease in the time to be able to accomplish simple to complex knee movements using Exparel infiltration when compared to controls.

Design: Prospective, randomized clinical trial, of 120 patients requiring a total shoulder replacement (TSR). Purpose: To collect and evaluate long-term clinical data on patients whose total shoulder replacement (TSR) is performed using the traditional surgical approach (called the subscapularis release approach) as compared to patients who have a TSR procedure done using a newer surgical approach (called the rotator cuff sparing approach).
