Filter by:The objective of the project is to develop a potentially marketable system for clinical, epidemiological and translational research capable of associating contextual variables and geospatial data with clinical patient information. The GeoHealth system will include a section to perform exploratory analysis that will help identify risk factors to optimize clinical decision making. The system will be used in a study of the influence of environmental factors in more than 800,000 asthmatic patients in the region of Andalucía, Spain. The results of this study will help to develop predictive models of risk of exacerbation in asthma patients. Currently, disease management guidelines state that asthma control has two components: current disease control and future risk of exacerbations. These two components are key when assessing disease management, following a stepwise model that seeks to improve current control and minimize future risk. However, although the current control of the disease is defined and has established methodologies for its measurement (Asthma Control Test -ACT- and Asthma Control Questionnaire -ACQ-), the risk of suffering exacerbations is not yet a measurable component. Therefore, these predictive models could help in professional decision making for asthmatic patients. The predictive models will be validated prospectively and implemented in a decision support system for the management of asthmatic patients.
To assess the impact of SQ SLIT-tablets (SQ Grass SLIT-tablet and SQ HDM SLIT-tablet) in Danish and Swedish allergic rhinitis (AR) patients, with or without asthma, between 2007-2020.
The purpose of this research study is to study the relationship between childhood asthma, allergies, and early-life environmental factors that may cause childhood asthma and allergies. Previous birth cohort studies have found early-life environmental factors such as allergies, pollutants, viruses and bacteria have all contributed to the development of asthma and allergies. Investigators are doing this research because there continues to be a strong need to understand the root causes of asthma and allergies. The CANOE study is an observational cohort study, which means investigators are not asking participants or participant's child to change their medications and investigators will not be giving participants or participant's child a study drug.
The aim of this cohort is to identify environmental, lifestyle and genetic factors that modify the human intestinal microbiota development during the first years of life, and to identify early microbiota features that associate to child health and well-being with focus on the development of allergic diseases and overweight.
This is a single-blind randomized controlled trial, aiming to evaluate the effects of vaginal seeding on body mass index as well as allergy risk for cesarean-delivered infants. It will be conducted in Liuyang city of China, and the targeted sample size is 106. All the eligible pregnant women will be randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group, and their babies of the participants will be followed up to 24 months of age.
The purpose of this study is to explore different mechanisms for anaphylaxis and find novel biomarkers for this hypersensitivity syndrome. The study participants are patients with anaphylaxis, patients with mild allergic reactions, and patients with febrile transfusion reactions. The investigators will also include a group of healthy controls.
1. To determine if BCG immunisation at birth, compared to no BCG immunisation, leads to a reduction in measures of allergy and infection in the first 12 months of life. 2. To evaluate the immunological mechanisms underlying the non-specific effects of BCG by comparing markers of immunity between the BCG and non-BCG groups.
During the 2009-2010 immunization campaign against pandemic H1N1, some people reported having allergic-like reactions (anaphylaxis(a shock-like reaction), hives, swelling, etc.). A vaccine allergy may be more or less severe or intense. Patients may have skin reactions (rash with or without itching), respiratory problems (cough, spasm of the airways), angioedema (swelling) of various body parts (face, eyelids, throat etc.) and circulatory problems (low blood pressure or shock). Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can sometimes be fatal. Other people vaccinated against pandemic H1N1 had an oculo-respiratory syndrome. Oculo-respiratory syndrome (ORS) is also a reaction to the influenza vaccine, which includes symptoms such as bilateral conjunctivitis (red eyes) with swelling of the face or respiratory symptoms (chest tightness, coughing, a sensation of throat closure, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, wheezing or difficulty breathing). The investigators know that ORS is not a true allergic reaction. Because many signs and symptoms of ORS are similar to those observed during an allergic reaction, it is often difficult to distinguish ORS from an allergic reaction. This study will compare three groups of patients: those who had allergic-like reactions, those who had ORS and vaccinated individuals who had no such adverse events. Pregnant women cannot participate in this study. The study has three goals. First, the investigators want to determine, among those who had allergic-like reactions after influenza vaccination, what proportion (percentage) of these people are actually allergic to the vaccine or its components. Second, among those who are not allergic to the vaccine, which other processes may have caused these symptoms. Finally, the investigators will try to identify whether there are features that distinguish patients who have a true allergic reaction from those affected by ORS, and those that had no adverse events.
The aim of this study is to prevent asthma and allergies in childhood by supplementation with fish oil (n-3 fatty acids) to the mother during pregnancy. Paticipants are mother and children participating in the ABC-(Asthma Begins in Childhood)cohort. Mothers are recruited during pregnancy and receive supplement with n-3 fatty acids or olive oil (placebo) from week 24 of gestation to 1 week after delivery. The child is followed with acute and planned visit at the research unit and diagnosis of disease is done in the research unit according to predefined algorithms.
