NCT ID: NCT01642381 Completed - Alcoholism Clinical Trials

Component Analysis for Motivational Interviewing

Start date: May 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to investigate the critical components of motivational interviewing (MI), a psychotherapeutic intervention, in reducing heavy or problematic drinking. The study will disaggregate MI into its component parts and test full MI compared to MI without its directive strategies. This study will test whether the directive elements of MI are critical or whether MI effects may be attributable solely to its Rogerian, non-directive components. NCT ID: NCT01613014 Completed - Alcoholism Clinical Trials

ABT-436 for Alcohol Dependence

Start date: March 2013
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The primary efficacy endpoint examines the hypothesis that ABT-436 will decrease the weekly percentage of heavy drinking days during Study Weeks 2 through 12 (Days 8-84) as compared to placebo. A "heavy drinking day" is 4 or more drinks per drinking day for women and 5 or more drinks per drinking day for men.

NCT ID: NCT01553136 Completed - Smoking Clinical Trials

Varenicline Treatment of Alcohol Dependence in Smokers

Start date: September 2012
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether varenicline is effective in the treatment of alcohol dependence in smokers.

NCT ID: NCT01518972 Completed - Clinical trials for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Prazosin for Alcohol Dependence and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Start date: September 2009
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the drug prazosin is effective for the treatment of alcohol dependency and symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

NCT ID: NCT01449981 Completed - Alcohol Dependence Clinical Trials

Development and Testing of Adolescent Twelve-Step Facilitation

Start date: October 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is the first to develop and test in a randomized experimental design the efficacy of an integrated 12-step facilitation intervention tailored for young people. In the first phase of the study, the investigators are developing and revising a preliminary manual for the two sessions individually-delivered Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) component and subsequent 8 session group-delivered Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) component which will integrate Twelve-step Facilitation (TSF). Forty adolescents each will complete the preliminary integrated TSF protocol. In the second phase of the study, the investigators will compare integrated TSF (iTSF) to standard treatment (MET/CBT) in a randomized experimental design for adolescent substance use disorder with 60 adolescents. As a result, the investigators will examine potential mechanisms that may underlie the efficacy of iTSF in improving alcohol and other drug use outcomes. The investigators will test group differences on potential mechanisms of change (e.g., Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous attendance and involvement) and whether these variables are associated with substance use outcomes.

NCT ID: NCT01422447 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

NCT ID: NCT01398319 Completed - Alcohol Abuse Clinical Trials

Prevention of Alcohol Related Incidents in the US Air Force

AFIV
Start date: March 1, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Alcohol misuse poses significant public health concerns in the U.S. military. A Brief Alcohol Intervention (BAI) have been shown to reduce alcohol related incidents among Airmen undergoing training. The current study sought to examine whether a booster BAI administered at the end of an Airmen's training reduced alcohol related incidents out to a one-year follow-up. Participants were 26,231 US Air Force Technical Trainees recruited between March 2016 and July 2018. Participants were cluster randomized by cohort to two conditions: BAI + BAI Booster or BAI + Bystander Intervention. The primary analysis was a comparison of the interventions' efficacies in preventing Article 15 alcohol related incidents at a one-year follow-up, conducted using a generalized estimating equations logistic regression model controlling for covariates.

NCT ID: NCT01370226 Completed - Alcohol Abuse Clinical Trials

Health Explorer - Optimizing Alcohol Brief Interventions

Start date: January 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aims of the study are to develop and refine tailored motivational brief interventions that are parallel in structure but have varied delivery modalities (computer vs. therapist) for patients with at-risk or problematic alcohol use, and to conduct a randomized controlled trial comparing the efficacy of these BI approaches (CBI, TBI, control) on subsequent alcohol consumption and alcohol consequences, including alcohol-related injury, mental and physical-health functioning, and HIV risk behaviors at 3-, 6-, and 12-months post-ED visit.
