Filter by:Focusing on emotions is valuable because "how a person feels, reacts, and expresses emotions can have both short-term and long-term effects on physical and mental health". This is explained by mechanisms such as reappraisal, attention regulation, self-monitoring, self-awareness, and regulation of the autonomic nervous system. Because yoga reduces negative emotions such as anxiety, anger, and depression, teens are likely to result in less conflict and stress in their lives. It is thought that it is also important for young people to accept difficult feelings and to be able to accept and approve these feelings. When negative emotions are acknowledged and witnessed, they often dissolve or transform, and the process allows the individual to learn about their limits, preferences, and needs. Processing emotions in this way allows a person to be honest with oneself and can contribute to healthier development. Therefore, yoga appears to be a useful well-being tool and practice that schools should adopt, as it can increase life skills for students such as concentration, memory, relational skills, and decision-making that are affected by emotions. Emotional well-being is important for learning in life and school. As noted earlier, research supports such a view, but more research is needed to understand how and why yoga should be offered to young people in their schools. However, it is suggested that researchers further explore the role of yoga in the management of emotions, both in terms of emotional processing and regulation of emotions. The role of yogic breathing (pranayama) as part of a holistic perspective on yoga, and specifically the role of yoga in the relationship between being with emotions, regulating emotions, and how it relates to change, should be further explored. It has been described in the literature that care should be taken to avoid possible harm to individuals associated with the use of unhealthy weight control behaviors among young adults and women with obesity. Yoga's intent to strengthen and support a positive sense of self makes it a particularly viable strategy for healthy weight management for women and those at high risk for poor body image. Finally, it has been reported that reductions in perceived stress may mediate the effects of participation in a yoga program on negative emotional and behavioral problems. It has been suggested that future studies may also assess the extent to which exposure to stress and trauma may affect youth's participation in and benefit from mindfulness and yoga interventions. Considering all the suggestions and research needs in the literature, this study was planned to examine the improvement in self-esteem, life satisfaction, body image, anxiety, depression and cognitive emotion regulation levels of university students after their participation in the yoga program provided to them in the school environment and to compare them with students who do not do yoga. In the study, it is planned to investigate the pre-exam anxiety levels of university youth who regularly practice yoga.
The current investigation consists of the implementation and modest refinements of a culturally adapted version of the evidence-based PT intervention known as GenerationPMTO.© The adapted intervention, CAPAS-Youth, is primarily delivered to parents. The primary research objectives are twofold: a) to conduct refinements of the CAPAS-Youth intervention for Hispanic immigrants in mid-Texas, and b) to measure implementation barriers and precursors, as well as implementation outcomes, in an effort to inform a future study focused on scaling the intervention. A special focus on faith-based organization informs the intervention, as a way of increasing reach with underserved Hispanic immigrant communities.
The investigators' previous research has shown that children exposed to media characters with guns in movies and video games are more likely to use real guns themselves (e.g., touch them, hold them, pull the trigger). This research tests whether exposure to a gun safety video a week before the study can help counteract dangerous behavior around guns.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the relationship between smartphone addiction and trunk position sense, insomnia and fatigue in adolescents. Sample size will be determined after a pilot study conducted on a small sample of adolescents. Digital goniometer will be used to evaluate trunk position sense, insomnia severity index will be used to evaluate insomnia severity and fatigue will be measured by fatigue severity scale.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be one of the longest lasting pandemics experienced in recent times. Although the disease shows symptoms in different ways, the most effective diagnostic method known is the PCR test. This procedure is an unknown test method that many people have never had in their lifetime. Uncertainty in any subject causes stress and fear in the person. When the suspicion of a disease is added to this situation, the situation can reach even more serious dimensions. For this reason, it can be said that the PCR test can cause many problems, especially fear and pain. The most important health professional that the patient can reach before, during and after the test is the nurse. In order for the nurse to complete the test in a short time and with success, it may be necessary for the applicants to keep their fear levels under control and to support their fear management. In addition, the nurse plays an important role in the assessment and management of pain. In the literature review, no study was found on reducing the fear and pain of the adolescents who gave the PCR Test. It is also thought that breathing exercises and stress ball can be an advantageous method in reducing pain and fear, considering their easy accessibility, affordable cost and long-term use. For this reason, this study was planned to determine the effect of stress ball and breathing exercises on the management of fear and pain that may occur due to PCR testing.
This study uses a smartphone application/web interface (RealTime Clinic; RTC) to collect patient and parent reports of a pediatric liver transplant recipient's quality of life (QOL), and examines the extent to which QOL evaluations can be integrated into care with the help of the application. The QOL measure that is used in this study is the Pediatric Liver Transplant Quality of Life (PeLTQL) questionnaire. Utilization, effectiveness, and efficiency data are evaluated. Hypotheses are fully described in the protocol. The primary hypothesis is that 80% of recruited child-proxy dyads will have at least one RTC-enabled PeLTQL score at 12 months. Other hypotheses look at implementation metrics and patient outcomes.
The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a multi-level (youth, parent, school) Internet-based dating violence prevention program, 'Me & You-Tech' (MYT) for 6th-grade middle school students.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines adolescents as those people between 10 and 19 years of age. Adolescence is a critical developmental stage especially in the context of living with a chronic disease (CD), a chronic disease can be defined as "physiological, behavioral or cognitive disorder that has lasted for one year and produces one or more types of consequences: functional constraints, dependency on compensatory assistance for functioning, or increased need of service compared with age-mates". The burden of chronic conditions in adolescence is increasing as larger numbers of chronically ill children survive beyond the age of 10. Over 85% of children with congenital or chronic conditions now survive into adolescence, and conditions once seen only in young children are now seen beyond childhood and adolescence.
Investigators propose to rigorously evaluate the Close to Home (C2H) model via a cluster-matched control trial across 18 diverse communities (9 C2H, 9 control) in California via collection and analyses of social network, school-based and social media data. Close to Home is a primary prevention community mobilization model implemented in 10 communities across California that engages community members across multiple sectors and social networks to strengthen community connections and shift social norms regarding sexual violence (SV), but has never been rigorously evaluated. C2H moves beyond criminal justice, lobbying, or school-based curricular approaches, taking a true community-level and community-led approach. This is a five-year project, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for 3 years with competitive awards for years 4 and 5, and is conducted in partnership with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and ValorUs (formerly CALCASA). The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and CDPH partnership is uniquely poised to conduct the first rigorous evaluation of C2H in California at this time.
This is a single-site, randomized, controlled trial. Investigators will evaluate feasibility of the Emergency Department Healthcare Education Assessment and Response for Teen Relationships (ED-HEART) intervention among adolescents age 14-19 years receiving care in the Children's Mercy emergency department.
