Filter by:Aimed to compare the success in the peripheral intravenous puncture (PIP), progression and placement of PICC in children, according to the use of Doppler vascular ultrasound (DVUS) or traditional method; to identify the influence of the DUVS in the time expended to PICC placement. Methods: Clinical, randomized and controlled trial conducted after ethical merits of research endorsement and the obtaining of consent for those responsible for the children. The sample, calculated in 42 PICC to obtain a power of 0,85, was distributed randomly into two groups, experimental group (EG) and controlled group (CG). To the statistical analyzes Pearson Chi-square, Fisher's Exact Tests, Generalization of Fischer's Exact and Mann-Whitney tests was applied (5%). Of the 42 catheters, 21 (50.0%) were implemented in EG and 21 (50.0%) in CG. The PIP was obtained in the first attempt in 90.5% of the punctures of the EG and in 47.6% of the GC, (p=0.003). PICC were implanted successfully in 18 (85.7%) children of GE and 11 (61.1%) of CG (p = 0.019). The median of the time spent to the procedure was significantly higher (p=0.001) in CG (50 minutes) when compared to EG (median 20 minutes).
All people who have a heart transplant are at risk for developing cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV). CAV means narrowing of the heart transplant vessels, which is associated with poor heart transplant function. People who develop antibodies after transplant have a higher risk of developing CAV. Infections, high cholesterol, and rejection also increase the risk of developing CAV. People who develop CAV usually have to receive another transplant.

The purpose of this research study is to determine the frequency and severity of iron overload in patients with Sickle Cell Anemia and its relationship to blood vessel function. The investigators hypothesize that intermittent transfusions that these patients receive during hospitalizations produces significant iron overload and impairs blood vessel relaxation.
Currently, dorsal hand rejuvenation is an upcoming issue as patients seek plastic surgeons to address this highly visible area, although no specific statistics concerning the number of patients undergoing dorsal hand rejuvenation have been published yet. The solitary use of fillers, fat, sclerotherapy, skin excision, resurfacing and combinations of the above mentioned therapies have been reported in the literature, but still there is a lack of scientific literature about functional microcirculation of the dorsum of the hand. Furthermore, there is a lack of scientific data about functional microcirculation of the plantar foot in healthy subjects compared to patients suffering from Diabetes mellitus or peripheral arterial occlusive disease. Consequently, the aim of this study is the evaluation of the functional microcirculation of hands and feet in healthy subjects as well as patients suffering from the above mentioned diseases.
