Photoplethysmography Detects Changes in Vascular Tone

Changes in the vascular tone of anesthetized patients is common and cause hemodynamic problems. The monitoring of such changes in vascular resistance using simple and non-invasive tools is lacking. The present study was designed to determine if photoplethysmography can detect changes in the systemic vascular resistance using Doppler as the reference method.

This study is designed to collect information during a procedure that is routine care for treating a blockage in a blood vessel in the upper part of the participant's leg. This study is for data collection reasons to help doctors gain better understanding of the treatment of disease in the blood vessels of the legs. You will be treated with two devices that are routine, or standard of care, for your doctor to treat blockages in the blood vessel of the leg. The treatment is for a blockage or narrowing caused by plaque build-up in the blood vessel. Data will be collected to assess what length of time the blood vessel will be prevented from re-narrowing through twenty-four (24) months after the procedure.

Point of Care 3D Ultrasound for Various Applications: A Pilot Study

Summary 1. Purpose and Objective: The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of rapid acquisition of point of care 3D ultrasound in obtaining abdominal and/or pelvic images. The study will use a newly developed acquisition method and post-processing technique to create three dimensional image models of the abdomen and/or pelvis. 2. Study activities and population group. The study population will be a convenience sample of patients of any age presenting to the Emergency Department with complaints necessitating a clinical abdominal and/or pelvic imaging. The study intervention includes acquisition of research ultrasound images, which will not be used for clinical care, and comparison of these images with clinically obtained images. Other clinical data such as surgical and pathology reports will also be reviewed. 3.Data analysis and risk/safety issues. This is a pilot study intended to determine feasibility and to refine image reconstruction algorithms. Research images will be compared to clinical images. Comparison of research images with final diagnosis will also occur. The research intervention, an ultrasound exam, has no known safety risks. The only risk to subjects is loss of confidentiality. This study is observational, not interventional, because the experimental ultrasound will be performed in all subjects and will not be used in the clinical care of patients (consequently, will not have the opportunity to affect clinical outcomes). Experimental images will be reviewed after completion of clinical care and will not be provided to the clinicians caring for the subjects. The investigators are not measuring the effect of the ultrasound examination on the subjects' outcomes.

Non-Contrast Enhanced Peripheral Magnetic Resonance Angiography

To systematically develop, test, and refine peripheral vascular electrocardiography-gated fast spin echo magnetic resonance imaging for the accurate diagnosis of peripheral arterial disease without gadolinium contrast. To test prospectively the accuracy of fast spin echo in peripheral arterial disease patients, compared with bolus-chase and time-resolved gadolinium enhanced magnetic resonance angiography. Additionally, as a substudy of this project, we will compare our fast spin echo approach with alternative non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging methods such as time-of-flight and steady-state gradient echo imaging. The overarching goals of our research are to develop and validate a peripheral magnetic resonance imaging technique that accurately depicts anatomy and disease without exposing patients to exogenous contrast material and its associated risks.

Role of the Interaction Between Advanced Glycation End Products and Their Receptor RAGE in the Development and the Progression of the Uremic Vasculopathy of Hemodialyzed Patients

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an extensive vasculopathy and high cardiovascular mortality as well as an accumulation of uremic toxins. Among the latest, advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) interact with RAGE. Investigators aimed to analyze the role of RAGE in the calcification process of hemodialyzed patients, in a correlative and prospective study. Vascular calcifications will be assessed by Xray and tomodentimetry while accumulation of AGEs will be measured in the serum and in the skin (non invasive). Additionally factors influencing RAGE activation such as genetic polymorphism and level of soluble forms of RAGE will be measured and analyzed.

The Study of the Prevalence Fibromuscular Dysplasia in Patient With Haematoma or Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection.

Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is a rare and often misdiagnosed cause of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) affecting predominantly young women without cardiovascular risk factors. The origin of SCAD remains uncertain but a strong and frequent association with Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) has been recently reported based on imaging evidence only. The aim of our study is to assess the presence of FMD and its genetic determinants i in a sample for haematoma or spontaneous coronary artery dissection. From May 2016 to 2018 we plan to include prospectively and retrospectively 200 patients admitted for ACS with confirmed diagnosis of SCAD. This study will be conducted in more than 30 French interventional cardiology centers. Coronary angiograms or intracoronary imaging data will be reviewed by two experienced interventional cardiologist experts in SCAD diagnosis. For each patient a genetic analysis will be performed. A systematic screening for FMD will be realized by computed tomographic or MRI angiography of renal, cerebrovascular and iliac arteries and reviewed by two experienced radiologists. A one year follow-up is expected. This study aims to confirm the presumed association of FMD and SCAD through the exploration of several artery beds and the study of confirmed genetic determinants, which has never been described previously to our knowledge.
