Filter by:Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by diffuse, continuous inflammation of the colon. This study will assess how safe and effective mesalamine delayed-release capsules are in treating pediatric participants with UC. Adverse events and change in disease activity will be assessed. Delzicol (Mesalamine) is an approved drug being developed for the treatment of Ulcerative Colitis (UC). Study doctors put the participants in 1 of 2 groups, called treatment arms. Each group receives a different treatment. Around 80 Pediatric participants aged 5 to 17 years with a diagnosis of UC will be enrolled in approximately 45 sites in the United States. Participants will receive oral mesalamine capsules twice daily for 26 weeks and followed for 30 days. There may be higher treatment burden for participants in this trial compared to their standard of care. Participants will attend regular visits during the study at a hospital or clinic. The effect of the treatment will be checked by medical assessments, blood tests, checking for side effects and completing questionnaires.
Eye infection is a prevalent problem in primary care and remains a crucial healthcare concern. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), herpes simplex virus (HSV) keratitis (HSK) is the leading cause of infectious blindness worldwide . HSK is defined as a corneal inflammatory condition caused by the HSV infection . The global incidence of herpetic keratitis is estimated at 1.5 million per year, resulting in 40,000 new cases of severe visual impairment associated with corneal scarring and opacification . HSV type I (HSV-1) is by far the most predominant causative pathogen of eye infections]. HSV-1 is also known for causing orolabial herpes, HSV folliculitis, herpes gladiatorum, herpetic whitlow, and eczema herpeticum . HSV can be transferred to the eye by touching an active lesion and then the eye. The National Health and Nutrition Evaluation revealed a seroprevalence of HSV-1 in 53.9% of 14-49 year olds, and 90% of adults 50 years or older , indicating that the majority of the population has been exposed to this virus thus are at risk of developing HSK. In this study we evaluate the efficacy of different treatment modalities on viral keratitis HSK.
This study is to determine if large, full thickness scalp wounds with exposed calvarium resulting from acutely created extirpative defects can be reliably and durably resurfaced with IDRT without burring or fenestration as a preliminary step, regardless of the size of the calvarial defect.
Inclusion criteria for study I and II is nurse aides, registered nurses and managers working in nursing homes who register in Senior Alert. To develop an intervention aiming to reduce the risk of pressure ulcers, malnutrition, poor oral health and falls among older persons in nursing homes, workshops will be conducted in collaboration with nurse aides, registered nurses and managers (study I). Cluster randomization is going to take place via a computerized program prior to the workshops meaning that only those nurse aides, registered nurses and managers working in nursing homes allocated to the intervention group are going to develop an intervention together with the research group and then test it (study II). The remaining nurse aides, registered nurses and managers working in nursing homes in the control group continue with regular care.
Patients with painful non-healing leg ulcer will be enrolled in the clinical single-blinded randomized study. The active treatment group will have sevoflurane applied at approximately 1 ml/cm2 at the start of wound treatment, the control group will only have a standard rinse solution with Cyteal TM (Pierre Fabre Medicament, France). Further treatment will then be carried out in the standard manner. The duration of the study will be 5 days; if the defect heals earlier, it will be terminated early. Exclusion criteria: allergy to sevoflurane, inability to understand the questionnaire Parameters to be monitored will be pain intensity, microbial colonization, appearance and size of the defect
This is an open-label, single arm, multicenter, Phase 2a study evaluating the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of MORF-057 in adult patients with Moderately to Severely Active Ulcerative Colitis (UC)
A Randomized, Multicenter, Open Label Study Comparing Omeza Combination Therapy with Standard of Care to Standard of Care alone for Chronic Venous Leg Ulcers over the course of 4 weeks
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics (PK) of etrasimod for the treatment of moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adolescents (≥ 12 years up to < 18 years of age). Participants who will complete the total 52-week treatment period will have the opportunity to continue in a Long-Term Extension (LTE) Period of up to 4 years (5 years after study enrollment), or until marketing authorization is obtained in the participant's country, whichever comes first.
PURPOSE: to determine the impact of bee venom phonophoresis in accelerating ulcers healing. BACKGROUND: Bee venom (BV) phonophoresis has been suggested as a noninvasive treatment for a number of inflammatory conditions and in healing of ulcers. Ulceration due to vascular causes is often multifactorial and can be caused by both arterial and venous disease. Hypertension and atherosclerosis of the peripheral vessels lead to arterial disease associated with ischemic ulcers. Chronic venous insufficiency and the resulting venous hypertension cause venous ulcers. There are lack in knowledge and information in published studies about the efficacy of bee venom phonophoresis as physical therapy modality in accelerating ulcers healing. So, this study will be designed to provide a guideline about the efficacy of of bee venom phonophoresis in accelerating ulcers healing. HYPOTHESES: It will be hypothesized that: It was hypothesized that Bee venom phonophoresis has no or limited effect in accelerating ulcers healing. RESEARCH QUESTION: Does Bee venom phonophoresis an effect in accelerating ulcers healing?
Diabetes-induced peripheral neuropathy can lead to the development of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), which can have a devastating effect on patients' lives and can lead to life threatening infection, amputations, and even death. Conventional treatment of DFUs are time consuming, burdensome, costly, and often do not treat the root cause of the problem. Even with proper care, ulcers can take a significantly longer time to heal in diabetic patients due to the altered physiology which does not allow for the proper nutrients and healing factors to mobilize to the site of injury, leaving these ulcers with a poor chance of healing and at high risk for infection and possible amputation. Supplemental immunonutrition therapy may offer a viable, low cost, rapidly scalable, and widely available approach to enhance the body's ability to heal itself. This prospective, randomized pilot study will evaluate the effect of a 6-week daily oral course of a specific combination of immunonutrients, L-Arginine, Omega-3 fatty acids, and Vitamin C, on wound healing in diabetic patients with chronic lower extremity ulcers compared to traditional standard of care. The deliverables of this clinical project will serve to advance a cost-effective added strategy to address a significant unmet clinical need in treatment for the diabetic patient population. Study outcomes will lay the foundation for a multi-site clinical trial to establish the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of this strategy across the health care system.
