Filter by:The purpose of this clinical research study is to determine whether dapagliflozin can improve (decrease) blood glucose values in patients with Type 2 diabetes who have never been treated with medication or have been taking medication for less than 24 weeks since their original diabetes diagnosis. The safety of this treatment will also be studied.

Walnuts include many potentially beneficial micronutrients and phytochemicals, in this study we propose to examine the effects of walnuts independent of macronutrient content. The purpose of this proposal is to study in depth the short-term effects of walnut consumption in men and women with the metabolic syndrome. Study Aim 1: To investigate the effects of walnuts (48gms per day over 3 days) on insulin resistance in subjects with the metabolic syndrome. Study Aim 2: To investigate the effects of 48gms per day of walnuts over 3 days on lipids and inflammatory markers. Study Aim 3: To assess the possible mechanisms of the biological effects of short-term walnut consumption through assessment of adipokines, resting metabolic rate, gene expression in white blood cells and the effect of walnuts when consumed as part of a mixed meal, on glucose excursions, insulin secretion and the excretion of gut peptides and free fatty acids.
To assess the safety and efficacy of chronic therapy with KRP-104, a novel DPP-IV inhibitor, in patients with Type 2 Diabetes on stable metformin therapy. In addition, an estimate of how much of the HbA1c response is attributable to nocturnal coverage will be explored.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and pharmacokinetics (PK) of XOMA 052 in subjects with stable Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D). The study is a dose-escalation study designed to evaluate route of administration (intravenous or subcutaneous), doses, and dosing regimens for future studies.
The overall objective of the Dietary Protein and Insulin Sensitivity Study is to test the hypothesis that increased protein in a diet with reduced carbohydrate (35% energy) can ameliorate insulin resistance in the absence of weight loss, and that this effect is independent of saturated fat content. Moreover, we will test whether such diets result in beneficial changes in total LDL cholesterol, small, dense LDL, and HDL cholesterol that are also independent of saturated fat intake.
The hypothesis of this study is that bed rest in diabetic patients will result in a deterioration of metabolic control (primarily glucose). Specific aims: 1. To determine the change in metabolic control in type 2 diabetic individuals when three days of bed rest is compared to three days of activity; 2. To determine the rate of progression of the deterioration in metabolic control and the magnitude of the decrease; 3. To assess whether the anticipated deterioration of metabolic control has effects on several parameters of glucose metabolism, including hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia; 4. To determine the effects of bed rest on surrogate markers of atherosclerosis, such as plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI1), C-reactive protein (CRP), and homocysteine. 5. To compare the effects of 48 hours of bed rest on orthostatic responses in type 2 diabetic patients, and healthy non-diabetics. 6. To make recommendations to the diabetic community to prevent metabolic deterioration during a 3 day hospitalization.

This trial will assess the efficacy of CRx-401 in lowering FPG levels in patients taking metformin to treat their diabetes. In addition, this initial trial will evaluate insulin resistance (HOMA-IR index), HgbA1c levels, glycated protein, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and total cholesterol, as well as the safety of CRx-401.
