The Effect of Erythropoietin on Alveolar Fluid Clearance in Patients With Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a common acute and critical disease in clinic. The clinical mortality is as high as 30%-40%. At present, there is no specific treatment. Erythropoietin (EPO), also known as erythrocyte- stimulating factor, erythropoietin, has a certain amount in normal human body, mainly synthesized by liver in infants and kidneys in adults, which can stimulate erythropoiesis. In recent years, more and more studies have shown that high-dose exogenous EPO administration has benefit effects on multi-organ protection. Therefore, we designed this prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial for defecting EPO on the alveolar fluid clearance of ARDS. The study mainly answers the following questions: Does human erythropoietin accelerate the resolution of alveolar edema in ARDS? Is there any effect on hospital survival? The study will draw conclusions by comparing the control group with the experimental group.

A Study to Test Whether Spesolimab Helps People With a Skin Disease Called Netherton Syndrome

This study is open to people with a skin disease called Netherton syndrome (NS). People can join the study if they are 12 years and older. The purpose of this study is to find out whether a medicine called spesolimab helps people with NS. Participants are divided into a spesolimab and a placebo group. Placebo injections look like spesolimab injections but do not contain any medicine. Every participant has a 2 in 3 chance of being in the spesolimab group. In the beginning, participants get the study medicine as an injection into a vein. Afterwards, they get it as an injection under the skin every month. After 4 months, participants in the placebo group switch to spesolimab treatment. Participants are in the study for about 1 year. During this time, they visit the study site 16 times. Where possible, 4 of 16 visits can be done at the participant's home instead of the study site. The doctors regularly check participants' NS symptoms. The results are compared between the groups to see whether spesolimab works. The doctors also regularly check participants' general health and take note of any unwanted effects.

Association Between the Level of EV-TF and the Occurence of Pulmonary Embolism in Patients With ARDS

In this study, 120 patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) will be included on a two years-period in an intensive care unit (Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Marseille, France). Those patients will benefit from a blood test at inclusion in order to measure several coagulation biomarkers, including EV-TF. Subsequently, these patients will be treated according to the usual practices of the department, following recommendations. Patients who received an injected CT scan between Day 5 and Day 28 will be divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of a pulmonary embolism on imaging. The measured values of EV-TF levels and other studied biomarkers will be compared between these two groups in order to detect a possible association between them and the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. It should be noted that patients receiving an injected CT-scan between Day 5 and Day 7 will be included in the main analysis while those receiving it between Day 8 and Day 28 will be included in the secondary analysis. Others will be excluded from any analysis. At the same time, several collections of clinical data will be carried out: on Day 1, Day 7, Day 28, and on the day of the CT scan if it is performed at another time.

The goal of this interventional study is to explore the use of InfraRed (FLIR) imaging in determining pain intensity and severity in newly diagnosed complex regional pain syndrome patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: Question 1: Can Infrared (FLIR) imaging be used to determine the severity of CRPS in newly diagnosed patients? Question 2: Is there any correlation with the quantification of 'the Δ thermal index value' measured by FLIR imaging with pain intensity (NRS) in newly diagnosed patients? Question 3: Is there any correlation between the quantification of 'the Δheat index value' measured by FLIR imaging between the two extremities with the severity (the severity score for CRPS) in newly diagnosed patients? Participants will have a picture of their foot taken using the forward looking infrared (FLIR) camera and answer questionnaires regarding their pain and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS).

Low-Energy Ultrasound, Electrical and Magnetic Field Stimulation in Therapy-Resistant Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Sonodyn is an investigational device that within this clinical investigation is intended for use in patients suffering from low back pain, tension headache or neck pain, originating from therapy-resistant myofascial pain syndrome. Myofascial pain syndrome is a prevalent pain condition in the adult population and a common cause of pain and dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system. It is a trigger point-induced regional musculoskeletal pain disorder affecting one or more muscles or groups of muscles. Sonodyn is a handheld medical device that combines low-energy ultrasound, electrical and magnetic field stimulation for non-invasive transcutaneous treatment of chronic myofascial pain syndrome. Sonodyn is a battery-operated, rechargeable stimulation device to be placed over specific trigger points for associated pain patterns in the human body. It emits ultrasound, electrical and magnetic stimulation signals with a pre-defined set of parameters for each of the independently operated power sources. The study will follow a prospective, randomized, sham-controlled, double-blind parallel group design. It will be conducted as a multi-center investigation at 6 sites in Austria and Switzerland. Patients are randomized in a 2:1 ratio into Treatment and Control. - Active Sonodyn therapy (Treatment) - No therapy (Sham Control) Two types of Sonodyn devices will be used: a fully functional one for Therapy arm patients that can deliver stimulation, and a non-functional one for Control arm patients that cannot convey any energy signals to the device output. The devices will look fully identical. Randomization will be stratified by study site, pain diagnosis and sex of the patient. For each subject, after a screening phase of 1 week, patients will be treated for 3 weeks with a follow-up of additional 8 weeks, adding up to 12 weeks. During treatment patients will activate their device 3 times a day for 10 minutes each. During screening, treatment and follow-up period, all patients will twice per day report the average and maximum intensity of their pain Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Patients will also enter the date, amount, and time of intake of rescue medication, if applicable. The primary objective of this study is to assess the impact on pain. Secondary objectives are to compare the performance between active therapy and sham, as well as to correlate changes in pain intensity with other pain related scales.

The Relationship Between Fibromyalgia Syndrome Parameters With Disease-Pain Severity and the Quality Of Life

In this study, the investigators aim to evaluate the relationship between disease severity, quality of life, anxiety and pain level in patients diagnosed with Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) with the parameters according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2016 diagnostic criteria. According to the 2016 ACR diagnostic criteria, there are 2 separate scales: Widespread Pain Index (WPI) and Symptom Severity (SS) . The relationship between these 2 parameters and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, the World Health Organization Short Quality of Life Questionnaire, and the McGill Melzack Pain Questionnaire and Beck Anxiety Questionnaire will be examined.

Inhaled Sevoflurane for ARDS Prevention

This study focuses on patients who are at risk of developing a serious, life-threatening respiratory disease called Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), which severely disrupts the function of their lungs. Preclinical studies have shown that the use of a volatile anesthetic agent such as Sevoflurane could be beneficial in the treatment and prevention of this respiratory condition. By improving gas exchange and attenuating pulmonary inflammation in particular, this agent would make it possible to prevent deterioration or to restore pulmonary function more rapidly. Half of the patients will receive inhaled sedation with sevoflurane and the other half will receive intravenous sedation already routinely used in participating ICUs (typically propofol, dexmedetomidine or a benzodiazepine, i.e. drugs approved for sedation). The aim of this study is to assess whether the use of Sevoflurane could be beneficial in the prevention of ARDS.

Vosoritide for Short Stature in Turner Syndrome

Turner syndrome (TS) is characterized by a missing whole or part of the second sex chromosome in a phenotypic female, resulting in short stature due to haploinsufficiency of the short-stature homeobox-containing (SHOX) gene. Growth hormone (GH) is an approved therapy for this condition, although not associated with GH deficiency, and benefits are modest. Vosoritide, a C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) analog, targets chondrocytes within the growth plate leading to increased cell proliferation and hypertrophy. We hypothesize that patients with TS and short stature will respond to vosoritide treatment leading to increased growth velocity. This study will enroll pre-pubertal girls with TS who are either naïve to GH or have had a poor response to GH therapy. All subjects will be treated with vosoritide for 12 months and will be assessed for safety monitoring and improvement in height outcomes. Annualized growth velocity (AGV) on vosoritide will be compared to AGV in the 6-18 months prior to initiation of vosoritide based on historical data available in the medical record. Subjects with a positive response to therapy will be given the option to continue in the extension phase of the study during which they will continue to receive vosoritide until growth cessation.
