Value of Screening and Treatment of SAHS in the Management of AF Ablation Candidates

The present prospective cohort study (not randomized) analyses the value of screening and treatment of SAHS in the management of patients with AF refractory to antiarrhythmics drugs, potentially candidates for ablation. Patients at low risk of suffering from SAHS will follow conventional management of their AF, according to the usual criteria of the Arrhythmia Unit. Patients with high or intermediate risk of SAHS, will undergo respiratory polygraphy. If the result is positive, they will be treated as standard for this syndrome and their heart rate will be monitored for 3 months. After this, the patient's arrhythmic load will be reevaluated differentiating patients into two groups, those that must be ablated from those that have improved their condition and the clinical criteria is no longer ablation but follow-up.

Functional Sucrase Deficiency in Short Bowel Syndrome Patients With Intestinal Failure

Short gut syndrome with intestinal failure patients may have decreased production of disaccharidases, like sucrase, an enzyme responsible for digesting sugar in foods. This can happen due to loss of bowel length from surgery or from loss of cellular function in the intestines due to use of parenteral nutrition intravenously. Therefore, patients with these conditions may not be able to digest sucrose (sugar) fully. Patients might experience abdominal distension/pain, vomiting and diarrhea when sugar is taken in orally or through the g-tube, which can limit patients' ability to increase oral or g-tube feeds in short gut syndrome patients with intestinal failure. In patients with short gut syndrome and intestinal failure, the administration of exogenous sucrase (enzyme) may improve sucrose (sugar) digestion and thus the ability to tolerate more oral or g-tube feeds.

Treatment of High Risk Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Not Candidates for Allogeneic Transplantation of Hematopoietic Progenitors (ALO-HSCT)

An observational, non-interventional, prospective and multicenter study of Azacitidine in newly diagnosed High Risk Myelodysplastic Syndromes. Primary objectives are to asses mutational status of target genes by Next Generation Sequencing, to evaluate prognostic value of geriatric assessment scales and to evaluate overall survival. The main hypothesis is that mutation status of target genes and geriatric scales have statistical significant impact on overall survival. Study time points will be at diagnosis, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months, always taking into account the routine clinical practice, when sample to assess mutational status will be collected. Geriatric assessment will only be performed at diagnosis. Upon the signature of informed consent and the checking of inclusion criteria, patients will receive treatment with Azacitidine 75 mg/sqm on a 28 days based cycles (both 7-0-0 and 5-0-2 regimens are allowed) until disease progression, unacceptable toxicity or investigator decision. 150 patients are expected to be recruited at study sites.

The POSITIVE platform offers the possibility of unsupervised monitoring of pre-frailty and frailty status in a community setting, to detect the onset of frailty and to assess its evolution. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate whether the POSITIVE system improves frailty in at least 1 point in the Fried's Criteria and 5 points in the FTS-5. This is a multi-centre, non-inferiority, randomized, simple blind and prospective pilot study with a 12-month follow up duration. The study will be carried out in Spain, Sweden and Poland. 150 participants will be randomized into two groups. The control group will receive usual medical care. The intervention group will receive, in addition, the POSITIVE frailty home monitoring and intervention system.

To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of tacrolimus eye drops (FK-506) in the treatment of Posner-Schlossman Syndrome. It is expected to collect 30 patients with PSS who are in the Ophthalmology Department of Peking University Third Hospital. The included PSS patients were divided into experimental group and control group using simple randomization method. Among them, the experimental group was treated with FK-506 twice a day, and the control group was treated with prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension 1% 4 times a day. For all PSS patients whose intraocular pressure is higher than 30mmHg, also add brinzolamide eye drops 3 times a day. Best corrected visual acuity, Goldmann intraocular pressure, anterior section photographs, corneal endothelial cells,corneal confocal microscope, Heidelberg retinal nerve analysis, Octopus visual field were examined on baseline and 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks after the treatment.

This is a biological study for adult MDS patients who undergo HSCT procedure. Viable bone marrow samples will be collected and cryopreserved from MDS patients before transplantation and at clinical disease recurrence. CD34+ blast cells at disease relapse after HSCT will be compared with CD34+ cells collected before transplant to study genomic and transcriptomic changes.

Nursing homes are a recent occurrence in Guadeloupe, and little is known about the characteristics of their residents. In Guadeloupe, in the French West Indies, nearly 1200 dependent older people are cared for in nursing homes. The aim of the KArukera Study of Aging in Nursing Homes (KASEHPAD) is to study the care pathways of dependent elderly people in nursing homes in Guadeloupe over a year. The main objective will be to obtain the annual rate of hospitalisation in this setting. The secondary objectives will be to assess hospitalisations costs, the incidence of mortality, the prevalence of geriatric syndromes, as well as the quality of life of residents and professional caregiver burnout. Ultimately, these results will be compared to a similar study in nursing homes, the KASAF study (for Karukera Study of Aging in Foster Families).
