A Study of Long-term Administration of Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray in Pediatric Subjects With Perennial Allergic Rhinitis (Study P06333AM1)

Mometasone furoate nasal spray (MFNS) is a once-a-day product. This is a multi-center, open-label study of MFNS in children with perennial allergic rhinitis. MFNS will be administered to pediatric subjects (3-15 years old) with perennial allergic rhinitis at a dose of 100 to 200 μg/day (once daily) for 12 weeks. Subjects (subject's legal representatives) provided consent to continue treatment beyond 12 weeks will receive treatment for up to 24 weeks. At each clinic visit, observation of adverse events, nasal symptom scores, and nasal findings will be evaluated. The presence/absence of serious adverse events and trial procedure-related AEs will be reviewed 30 days after the end of the follow-up.

Multicenter, Double-blind, Randomized, Placebo-controlled Study of Mometasone Furoate Nasal Spray in Pediatric Subjects With Perennial Allergic Rhinitis (Study P06332)

This is a multicenter, randomized, parallel design, double-blind study of mometasone furoate (MF) in pediatric subjects with perennial allergic rhinitis. The subjects 5 to 15 years of age with perennial allergic rhinitis will enter a no-treatment observation period of 7 days at minimum and eligibility for inclusion in this study will be assessed. Following the observation period, eligible subjects will be randomized to MF or MF placebo for a 2-week double-blind treatment. At each clinic visit (at the start of treatment and after 1 and 2 weeks of treatment or at discontinuation), nasal symptom scores, nasal findings, and adverse events (AEs), will be evaluated. A 30-day follow-up visit will take place after the completion (or discontinuation) of the 2-week treatment period, to confirm presence or absence of serious adverse events (SAEs) and trial procedure-related AEs.

Genetics of the Early and Late Response to Allergen Challenge

The investigators are investigating the early and late responses to allergen challenge. The research participants who the investigators will study (from three cohorts) will be part of independently-approved studies involving allergen challenge. Due to the uniqueness of the cohorts for novel genetic study, it is logical that the investigators should initially undertake hypothesis-generating experiments. The investigators will obtain blood samples from the participants, both pre-challenge and post-challenge. The investigators will determine gene expression and protein differences between these samples, and investigate if there are inherited genetic differences between individuals that may predict their specific responses to allergens.
