It is anecdotally reported that lung function testing and positive airways pressure devices used in clinical practice are aerosol generating procedures however the data to support this is limited. With the advent of high-speed imaging systems that can capture and quantify particle size and velocity we aim to investigate the aerosol generation in routine non-invasive positive pressure respiratory procedures.
to assess the efficacy and safety of a standardized Withania somnifera extract (Sensoril®) as an immunomodulator in individuals suffering from recurrent URTIs. The study population will be administered with this unique blend of WS extract for 12 weeks and will be assessed as per the study designated efficacy and safety variables.
This is a Phase 1/2 study in patients with a Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (RRP) disease burden that requires repeated surgical procedures for management. RRP is a rare disease caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Participants with a pathologically confirmed diagnosis of papilloma and a clinical diagnosis of RRP will be screened for this protocol.
This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the impact of bovine Lactoferrin (bLf) on respiratory tract infections (RTIs) in an elderly population in the United States.
This is a prospective cohort study that describes focused lung ultrasound (FLUS) findings in patients presenting with symptoms of an acute lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) in general practice in Denmark. Ten general practitioners (GPs) will perform FLUS in addition to their usual care of adults presenting with symptoms of an acute LRTI where the GP suspects a community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Eligible patients will consecutively be invited to participate during a two months' study period until each GP has included a total of ten patients. The GPs will register information about patients including age, gender, symptoms, clinical findings, results of any point-of-care test performed, if antibiotic treatment was prescribed and they will register information on FLUS performance and findings.
Patients who are critically ill in intensive care with moderate to severe acute respiratory infection often require mechanical ventilation. Prolonged ventilation increases the risk of lung damage and other side effects as a result of long term use of sedation medications. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy (ECMO), is a relatively new technology that uses a pump to remove blood from the body and return it back to the body after adding oxygen and removing carbon dioxide. ECMO can be used on patients who require mechanical ventilation and can function without the need for ongoing mechanical ventilation, thus reducing risk of side effects. Participants will be randomised into either the early ECMO therapy group or will continue standard treatment involving mechanical ventilation. This pilot study aims to determine if a phase 3 Randomised Control Trial (RCT) is feasible for the use of early ECMO therapy to treat patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). The success of the study will be determined by the successful recruitment of adult patients, that there is a difference between ECMO utilisation between groups and that there are no safety issues.
This single-arm, open-label small interventional proof-of-concept (POC) study study aims: 1. to assess the clinical outcomes of patients exhibiting viral respiratory infection (VRI) symptoms and seeking primary healthcare (PHC) services at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, 2. to assess the clinical effectiveness of the Cretan IAMA (CAPeo), a herbal extract combination, for these patients, including in terms of symptom resolution (symptom frequency, duration) and intensity), and 3. to investigate its prophylactic effect in terms of transmission prevention for people cohabiting with the patients exhibiting VRI symptoms.
As most of the upper airways infections (UAI) leading to wheezing are secondary to viral triggers, the possible antinflammatory and antiviral role of resveratrol has been suggested in several studies, both in vitro and in vivo. However, its efficacy has been studied only when evaluating upper respiratory symptoms. With the aim to define new approaches in patients with recurrent wheezing triggered by UAI we have performed a prospective observational study to evaluate the efficacy of a short-course of intranasal resveratrol, administered for 7 days at the beginning of UAI, when compared to standard nasal lavage with 0.9% saline solution, in terms of reduction in wheezing episodes.
This trial is taking place in Los Angeles, CA among patients from primary care practices within the UCLA Health System. The study design is a parallel 2-arm trial. The parallel arms are 1) a reminder letter for the second dose of influenza vaccine (reminder messages sent via the patient portal) with a direct appointment scheduling link included in the reminder and 2) a reminder letter for the second dose of influenza vaccine, but no direct appointment scheduling link included.
To determine if RTB101 as compared to placebo decreases the percentage of subjects with clinically symptomatic respiratory illness (with or without an associated laboratory-confirmed pathogen) through Week 16.
