NCT ID: NCT05270655 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

Cognitive-behavioural Intervention for Anxiety, Depression and Quality of Life Among Children Receiving Chemotherapy.

Start date: April 12, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The diagnosis and treatment of paediatric cancer is the most stressful experience for children and their families. Nearly all paediatric cancer patients are presented with at least one psychosocial problem, of which, anxiety and depression often coexist and are most frequently reported. Poorly managed anxiety and depression causes emotional and behavioural problems, impairs relationships and functioning, decreases adhere to treatment, increases the burden of symptoms and significantly impacts quality of life and prognosis. Despite the high rates and negative impacts of anxiety and depression in paediatric oncology, they are poorly managed. Thus, to mitigate the burden of anxiety, depression and impaired quality of life, an age-appropriate cognitive-behavioural intervention shows promise when incorporated with the existing pharmacologic interventions. This study aims to test how effective cognitive-behavioural intervention is to improve anxiety, depression and quality of life of children during chemotherapy. The study will be conducted in two hospitals in Ethiopia and include 8-18-year-old children with haematological cancer receiving chemotherapy, able to communicate with the local language, Amharic, able to provide parental consent and child assent, and without history of developmental, psychological, psychiatric, hearing or speech problems. The study will enroll up to 80 participants and randomise them into two groups, one group will receive a cognitive-behavioural intervention and the the other group will receive the usual psychosocial care provided by staff nurses. Participants in the cognitive-behavioural intervention group will receive five sessions of individual face to face cognitive-behavioural intervention. Each session will last approximately 30-35 minutes a week and supplemented by home-based practices. This study will use different intervention delivery strategies including psychoeducation, guided discovery or Socratic questioning, discussion, drawing, painting or writing, and play depending on the content of each session and maturity of the child. The levels of anxiety, depression and quality of life will be measured before the intervention, after the intervention and one month after completion of the intervention in both groups.

Patient-reported Outcomes in Neuroendocrine Neoplasms: a Prospective Quality of Life and Quality of Care Study Within NETwerk

Quali-NET
Start date: November 5, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are rare tumors that require specific diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, this poses a challenge for clinical practice. Diagnosis and treatment can be optimized when physician specialists and other healthcare providers, across various hospitals, join forces to provide patients the best care. Based on this idea, a hospital network called NETwerk was set up. The following hospitals are part of this network: University Hospital Antwerp, VITAZ, AZ Monica, AZ Voorkempen, AZ Klina, Gasthuiszusters Antwerpen, Ziekenhuis Netwerk Antwerpen and AZ Rivierenland. In this NETwerk, patients with a neuroendocrine tumor or patients suspected with a neuroendocrine tumor are discussed with the specialists and treated. The aim of this study is to map the quality of life of NET patients within NETwerk in order to optimize the quality of care. Throughout the diagnosis, the treatment process and the follow-up, the patient will be asked to fill out three questionnaires (QLQ-C30, QLQ-GI.NET21 and a satisfaction survey). These questionnaires will be filled out every six months at home. Patients will be asked to complete these questionnaires over a period of five years.

NCT ID: NCT05261971 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Evaluation of the Effects of Treatments Applied to Patients With Facial Myalgia on Occlusion Parameters

Start date: December 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is closely related to neuromuscular components. A problem occurring in any of these components or parts of the TMJ interferes with the harmonic functioning of the TMJ and invites temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD).Management of TMD can be conservative or surgical. Physiotherapy, local steam application, external muscle massage, occlusal adjustment, analgesic and physiotherapeutic medication and splint treatments are the most frequently recommended conservative treatments. Today, occlusal adjustments are made with the help of a prosthetic or orthodontic appliance. With these intraorally used occlusal splints, a balanced occlusal contact is achieved without applying any force to the mandible in the resting position. Occlusal splints are available in different designs and different construction materials. The stabilization splint, which is one of the most frequently used occlusal splints, and the modified Hawley splint are appliances produced from hard materials. However, some researchers have commented that soft splints produced from resilient materials may also be useful in the distribution of excessive force formed in parafunctional habits. While there are studies stating that hard splints provide more successful results than soft splints in functional problems of the chewing system, there are also studies reporting that they have similar efficacy on muscle pain after short-term use. However, there are no studies in the literature that compare their efficacy in short-term and long-term myalgia patients and demonstrate their efficacy using an objective test such as digital occlusion analysis. There was no study on the effectiveness of different splints on the patient's quality of life. It would be appropriate to carry out our study to fill this gap in the literature. The main purpose of this study is to digitally examine and compare the effects of three different treatment methods (medical therapy, medical therapy+soft splint, medical therapy +hard splint) applied to patients diagnosed with facial myalgia after temporomandibular joint examination on the existing occlusion changes.

NCT ID: NCT05258734 Completed - COVID-19 Clinical Trials

The Effect of Mobile Health Application Based on Omaha System on Symptoms and Quality of Life in COVID-19 Patients

Start date: July 23, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of nursing interventions made with a mobile health application (COVOS) developed based on the Omaha System on the physical, psychosocial and cognitive symptoms and quality of life of patients diagnosed with COVID-19, and continuing treatment at home. Design: This is a single center, 1:1 randomized, single blind, parallel, active comparator trial. Method: Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials (SPIRIT) Statement 2013 checklist used in study. The CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) flowchart is used in this protocol. This study will carried out in a family health center, located within the boundaries of İzmit District of Kocaeli province. The patients in the experimental group will be followed up with the COVOS app and nursing interventions (videos, information messages) to manage their symptoms will be directed with the COVOS app. The patients in the control group will not receive any intervention, the standard follow-up and health care provided by the family health center of the patients will continue. Hypothesis: In patients diagnosed with COVID-19 followed at home with COVOS, symptom management and quality of life will be better in 1st, 2nd and 3rd months compared to the control group.

NCT ID: NCT05257577 Active, not recruiting - Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

Factors Influencing Breast Cancer Resection Volumes And Their Impact on Treatment Outcome (FIBRATIO)

FIBRATIO
Start date: May 28, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

The number of breast cancer survivors is constantly growing. Breast conserving surgery (BCS) is equal or superior to mastectomy both regarding survival and quality of life (QoL). Hence, as many patients as possible should be treated using BCS. The results indicate that the rate of mastectomies in Finland is higher than in Europe, while the rate of reoperations due to insufficient margins after BCS is lower in Finland than globally. With this study we aim to identify the optimal balance of radicality and tissue-conservation in BCS. The aim of this study is to measure the volume of the resected breast tissue and the width of the healthy tissue margins and to compare these with the radiological and histological tumor size and with the size of the breast and their correlation with theoretically optimal and excised volumes. This is a national prospective multicenter study conducted in five breast units. 250 women with primary, unilateral, cTis-T2 breast cancer eligible for BCS will be recruited. The diagnostics and treatment of the patients will be carried out following the Finnish national guideline. The size of the breast and the radiological size of the tumor will be measured preoperatively using mammograms and MRI. The histological tumor volume and the resection volume will be measured postoperatively. The optimal resection volume is calculated as the difference of the total resection volume and the volume of the tumor with an added 1 cm margin. To map the impact of the treatment on QoL and body image, the patients are surveyed using EORTC-QLQ-C30 and BREAST-Q Breast Conserving Therapy Module QoL questionnaires preoperatively, 3-8 weeks postoperatively, and two years after the radiotherapy. Objective evaluation of the aesthetic outcome is assessed by the BCCT.core software that uses medical photographs taken at the same time points as the questionnaires are filled.

NCT ID: NCT05254704 Not yet recruiting - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Validation of the French Version of the TEX-Q Questionnaire.

TEX-Q-F
Start date: April 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

It is now known that the level of patients' expectations about a treatment (intervention, medication) can influence their prognosis. Positive expectations impact the effectiveness of the intervention, while negative expectations may lead to adverse events. It would therefore be useful to measure these expectations. However, there is no standardized questionnaire to report the overall level of expectation in the pre-operative phase. A team (led by Pr Meike C Shedden-Mora) has recently developed a questionnaire that aims to assess a patient's general level of expectation regarding a therapeutic intervention, taking into account the direct benefits and the expected adverse effects. This questionnaire, the brief version of the treatment expectation questionnaire (TEX-Q) is composed of 15 items. There's currently no French translation of the TEX-Q, nor has it been tested on a population scheduled for surgery. In addition to expectations regarding the surgical procedure, patients seem to have various expectations regarding the impact and specific role of anesthesia. Little literature exists on specific expectations regarding the role of anesthesia. Thus, we believe it is necessary to validate a French version of the TEX-Q questionnaire (TEX-Q-F) applied to the context of scheduled surgery, as well as to evaluate the specific expectations of anesthesia.

Distress Related to the Feeling of Loss of Dignity in Patients With Rheumatic Diseases

Start date: March 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Rheumatic diseases (RD) are an important group of different clinical entities and specific diseases that affect a significant proportion of the world population. In Mexico, the RD have a relevant representation in the adult population. Dignity is a construct characterized by the representation of the self, of the self from others' point of view, and of the interaction of the individual with the environment and social context. Living with a chronic illness can threaten experiences of dignity for the sick person and their families. Various studies have demonstrated the direct impact of the disease on dignity in terms of physical and psychological symptoms and loss of function. Some efforts have been made to operationalize the concept of perceived dignity in the context of chronic diseases The perceived dignity of patients and the distress related to the feeling of loss of dignity (DRFLD) are outcomes that the patient can report and that the doctors can evaluate to be incorporated into the considerations of comprehensive care. Both outcomes are closely related, perceived dignity refers to a complex phenomenon, while distress related to the feeling of loss of dignity identifies those patients with a perceived dignity compromise of such magnitude that it generates anguish.
