Filter by:The response to COVID-19 means social isolation/distancing for the majority of the UK. This has the potential to negatively affect all domains of quality of life (QoL). QoL can be improved by giving feedback on gaps between someone's perceived QoL in a domain and how important it is to them (plus prompting reflective questions). However, interventions that are designed to improve QoL may increase the effectiveness of this as optimised behaviour change techniques can be used. This study aims to develop and test a quality of life intervention during social isolation/distancing.
Different modality of anesthesia and analgesia could influence a postoperative quality of recovery (QoR). This study is exploring early QoR after unilateral nephrectomy in the two groups of anesthesia. The first group had a light general anesthesia with thoracic epidural anesthesia and postoperative epidural analgesia with morphine and ropivacaine. The second group had general anesthesia and a continuous postoperative analgesia with tramadol. The postoperative QoR was evaluated 24 hours after surgery.
Quality of life (QOL) is an overarching term for the quality of the various domains in life. It is a standard level that consists of the expectations of an individual or society for a good life. These expectations are guided by the values, goals and socio-cultural context in which an individual lives. It is a subjective, multidimensional concept that defines a standard level for emotional, physical, material and social well-being. The Short Form (36) Health Survey is a 36-item, patient-reported survey of patient health. The SF-36 is a measure of health status and an abbreviated variant of it, the SF-6D, is commonly used in health economics as a variable in the quality-adjusted life year calculation to determine the cost-effectiveness of a health treatment. The original SF-36 stemmed from the Medical Outcome Study, MOS, which was conducted by the RAND Corporation. The primary objectives of this research were to translate, validate and generate normative data on the SF-36 health survey for using among Urdu speaking residents of Pakistan.SF-36 health questionnaire is first translated into Urdu and then apply on healthy subjects to check the validity and reliability of this scale . Instrument will be first translated from English to Urdu by two experts. Both these experts were fluent in English and Urdu language. One expert belongs to allied health care profession and other expert will be junior life scientist. The third expert compares the initial to Urdu translation and formulated the first draft of SF-36 Health Questionnaire. Content validity of SF-36 Health Questionnaire was established by committee method. 10 experts from physical therapy field rate the all 36 items of the SF-36 Health Questionnaire on content validity index developed by RAND Corporation. They rate each item of SF-36 Health Questionnaire for its relevance, clarity, simplicity, and ambiguity on four point ordinal likert scale. Data will be analyzed using SPSS v 25. Intra class correlation coefficient, chronbach alpha and factor analysis will be used to analyses the data.
Aim of this study is to evaluate the post-operative course in patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic oral mucosal biopsies. To evaluate the wound healing, all variables connected with the surgery (including post-operative complications) were recorded. To evaluate the psychological and behavioral impact of the post-operative discomfort, two survey tools were administered: OHIP-14 and visual number scale of pain (VNS) were administered at 6h, 7 days and 21 days after biopsy.
The intervention will be a physical exercise program for colorectal cancer patients during the adjuvant chemotherapy. The exercise program aims on reducing the side effects of the treatment and improving patients' quality of life. In addition, the investigators try to improve endurance and resistance training level, in order to achieve greater physical functionality, survival and general well-being. For this, the investigators will carry out an exercise program based mainly on muscular strength and cardiorespiratory condition. It will last 6 months, with a frequency of 3 days per week, including sessions of 60 minutes. Sessions will consist of three parts: warm-up, main part (endurance and resistance training), and cool down. An individualized and supervised progression of training will take place. The intensity levels will always be adjusted to the initial levels of the participants, always considering their preferences and comfort. Participants' preferences and exercise history will be considered through an initial interview. Motivational strategies based on self-determination theory will be applied, since it is one of the most used theories in the field of physical exercise. This theory proposes that all people need to feel competent, autonomous and socially related. If these three needs are satisfied, participants will develop more positive (autonomous) forms of motivation, which are related to better consequences such as vitality, enjoyment, quality of life and adherence to physical activity. In addition, motivational strategies will be applied for families and healthcare professionals. Before starting the program and at the end of it, each eligible patient will be evaluated through: - Physical activity: strength test of lower and upper limbs, agility test, stress test for cardiorespiratory fitness, physical activity levels, physical condition and body composition. - Psychological factors: autonomy support, basic psychological need satisfaction, motivation, quality of life, perceived barriers, depression, anxiety, hope, quality of life. - Clinical parameters: survival rate, side effects, biological factors, treatment delays and planned treatment completion.
The aim of this study is to test if an extract of Turmeric can alleviate symptoms of osteoarthritis in volunteers with osteoarthritis of the hip and or knee.
Burnout is a common problem for medical students and is associated with stress-related health problems and also potentially affects the quality of care delivered to their patients. Among the health problems commonly associated with burnout are substance use problems, and alcohol is the substance most often misused. The purpose of the evaluation is to document whether an educational intervention incorporating aspects of virtual reality (VR) via a 3D online simulation experience prevents or improves the primary endpoint of burnout and the secondary endpoints of burnout-related factors in medical students. The investigators will also will evaluate student satisfaction with the intervention to determine if it meets our standard of success. The hypothesis is that the intervention will improve the primary clinical endpoint of burnout from pre-intervention to post-intervention as measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory, a validated inventory that is widely used to measure burnout. The related factors that will be measured as secondary clinical endpoints include quality of life, substance use (alcohol and drugs), depression, and resilience. Due to evidence that these endpoints are linked to burnout, the investigators also hypothesize that the measures will improve pre- to post-intervention. Satisfaction of the target audience after completing the simulation intervention will also be evaluated. The evaluation will be prior to and after use of the simulation by medical student participants, using a pre-/post intervention, wait-list control, parallel design.
This study will investigate the use of a mobile health app (Roadmap 2.0) intervention in caregivers of patients with cancer. In this study participants will be given the Roadmap 2.0 app, with a focus on the positive aspects of caregiving (positive activity components), and a Fitbit. The primary objective of this pilot study is to test the feasibility and acceptability of using the mobile health app.
Cancer is a disease that requires long-term management, especially now that medical advances have transformed most cancers from an acute to a chronic condition. Most of the time, therefore, the help provided by family and friends is long-term. The negative impact of oncological care on the quality of life of family caregivers has already been studied. The UCOGB carried out a study in 2014 on the primary caregivers of cancer patients aged 70 and over at inclusion and at 3 and 6 months of oncogeriatric care. This study showed that several factors were significantly related to the caregiver's quality of life: the caregiver's age, perception of burden and patient autonomy (18). However, the evolution of quality of life and burden at 5 years has, to our knowledge, never been evaluated.
The purpose of this study is to gain on-going COVID-19 feedback/data to drive timely action locally and nationally in order to mitigate transmission. Data will be deidentified and consolidated to create a large national longitudinal database.
