Expressive Writing for Caregivers of Persons With Cancer

Start date: June 8, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this clinical trial is to test the effects of an expressive writing intervention for caregivers of persons with cancer. The main questions the study aims to answer are: 1. Does participation in a group-based, videoconference-delivered expressive writing intervention improve mood and quality of life for caregivers of persons with cancer? 2. Is greater improvement associated with writing that is more emotionally expressive or personally revealing, or with group-based sessions characterized by certain linguistic features such as greater emotionality? 3. Is benefit greater for certain subgroups of caregivers, such as those who are younger or who identify as female in gender? Participants will be asked to join four videoconference-delivered, group-based expressive writing sessions. This will be done in groups of 4-8 caregivers and led by a trained facilitator. During each session, participants will write about their deepest thoughts and feelings about their loved one's cancer and their experiences as a caregiver. They will then discuss as a group any reactions to the writing process. Participants will be randomly assigned to either active intervention (receiving the intervention as soon as a group is formed) or waitlist control. Researchers will compare active and waitlist control participants on to pre- to post-intervention changes in mood and quality of life.

NCT ID: NCT05857202 Recruiting - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Oxidative Stress and Inflammation Biomarkers in Surgically Treated Patients With Laryngeal Cancer

Start date: September 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

A experimental interventional prospective study will include patients with squamocellular carcinoma of the larynx surgically treated at the tertiary referral center. Clinical and demographic characteristics of the patients would be noted. The visual analog scale (VAS), Brief Pain Inventory questionnaire, Diagnosing Neuropathic Pain 4 (DN4) and Pain Detect Questionnaire were used for pain assessment. Questionnaire Quality of Life in Head and Neck Cancer Patients (QLQ - H&N35) was used to assess the quality of life in patients with surgically treated laryngeal carcinoma. The type and consumption of analgesics used after surgery was monitored. The analgesics were used according to WHO Ladder. Blood samples ware taken from the patients for the analysis of oxidative stress parameters and inflammation parameters before the operative treatment and after the operative treatment (1-2 postoperative day and 9-10 postoperative day). The concentrations of interleukin 1 (IL-1) and 6 (IL-6), glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1), superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum were determined. The aim of the study will be to assess concentrations of inflammatory biomarkers (IL-1, IL-6) and oxidative stress factors (MDA, SOD, GPKS1) in postoperative course in surgically treated patients with laryngeal carcinoma and in possible complication occurrence. Also, their correlation to type and dosage of used analgesics, to pain assessment questionnaire scores and QOL questionnaire scores in surgically treated patients with laryngeal carcinoma will be assessed.

NCT ID: NCT05855421 Recruiting - Depression Clinical Trials

Efficacy and Safety of Auricular Acupuncture in Depression During the Covid 19 Pandemic

The name of the intervention used in this research study is: -Nurse-Led Quality of Life Intervention (comprised of nurse-patient relationship, assessment and monitoring of participant QOL, and interdisciplinary team meetings led by the CRN (clinical research nurse).

NCT ID: NCT05851586 Active, not recruiting - Pain Clinical Trials

Physical Therapy Intervention in Dental Students

Start date: September 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The main purpose of our study is to assess whether guided strength training and stretching intervention with a written home exercise program is more effective than a home exercise program alone for pre-clinical dental students in improving and preventing pain associated with dental laboratory practice. Secondary aims will be to assess relationships between strength and quality of life measures of an individual and pain levels.

NCT ID: NCT05850338 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Determination of the Effects of Autogenic Relaxation Exercise and Cold Pillow Application on Vasomotor Symptom Control and Quality of Life in Postmenopausal Women

Vasomotor
Start date: June 22, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of autogenic relaxation exercise and cold pillows on vasomotor symptom control and quality of life. This randomized controlled study was carried out at Kirikkale University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Gynecology Department between 22.06.2018 and 02.01.2019. The sample of the study consisted of 88 people, 44 in the intervention group and 44 in the control group. Since there were case losses in the research, the research was completed with a total of 69 people, 34 in the intervention group and 35 in the control group. The women in the intervention group performed autogenic relaxation exercises and cold pillow application for 8 weeks, and the women in the control group received outpatient care in the hospital. Research data were collected using Descriptive Characteristics Form, Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Scale, Vasomotor Symptom and Practice Follow-up Diary. Data collection tools were applied to the women during the first interview, and at the 4th and 8th weeks after the women were included in the study. In the analysis of descriptive data; number, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used. Independent groups t test was used to determine the difference between groups. The relationship between two independent categorical variables was analyzed using the chi-square test. Variables between dependent groups were compared in repeated measurements with anova test and mixed anova test
