Patient-centered Nutrition Care II: An E-health Supported Symptom Based Nutrition Intervention

The aim of this study is to utilize the E-Health platform (EHIP) containing behavioural tipps to enable the provision of early appropriate nutrition recommendations to patients undergoing cancer therapy thereby stabilizing the nutrition status as measured with the scored Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment. Furthermore, we plan to explore the causal pathway between the change in the number and severity of nutrition related symptoms, measure the difference in weight change in percent between the two groups, determine a change in the level of the distress status, and measure the change in functional status. This Information could provide a basis for future nutrition intervention strategies aimed at improving overall nutrition status of patients undergoing cancer therapy and could potentially improve clinical and functional outcomes of this population.

Pain Neuroscience Education and Graded Exposure to Movement in Breast Cancer Survivors

Introduction: Pain stands out among the sequelae that affect the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. Pain neuroscience education and graded exposure to movement are therapeutic approaches that have been shown to be effective in the management of chronic pain in other populations. However, there are no previous studies that combine them in this population. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an online physiotherapy focused-person program which combines pain neuroscience education and graded exposure to movement, to improve the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. Methodology: The design of the study is a randomised controlled clinical trial and the sample will be 40 breast cancer survivors with pain in the last 6 months. A random method will be used to assign participants into two groups (experimental and control). The evaluator and statistician will be blinded to participant allocation while the experimental group will receive the therapeutic program which combines pain neuroscience education and graded exposure to movement-based intervention throughout therapeutic yoga; the control will be a passive group. There will be four points of assessment: the main outcome assessed will be quality of life measured by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - Breast (FACT-B+4) and the secondary outcomes are variables related to pain experience (catastrophising, self-efficacy, kinesiophobia and fear-avoidance behaviours). All will be assessed using validated methods. SPSS program will be used for the data analysis. A mixed-model analyses of variance ANOVA (2x4) will be used to study the effects of the treatment on the dependent variables. An intention-to-treat analysis will be performed. All statistical tests will be performed considering a confidence interval of 95%. Trial record: NCT04965909.

The Effectiveness of APP Intervention on Home Self-care Ability and Quality of Life of Patients With Intestinal Stoma

Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Taiwan. In the United States, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosis and mortality. According to the databases of the Bureau of National Health Insurance (BNHI), in 2003-2006, a total of 15,805 patients with colorectal surgery were included, and 27.11% were treated with ostomy, while 90.45% were colostomy and 9.55% were ileostomy. The domestic and foreign researches related to enterostomy mostly use cross-sectional research methods. The quality of life, knowledge of self-care and self-care needs of different postoperative methods of colorectal cancer have not been specifically improved for patients with enterostomy. The research on self-care ability and quality of life is for reference. In other countries, enterostomy care has gradually moved from medical institutions to community care, but community nurses generally have no relevant care skills. Advances in mobile technology such as smartphones and other mobile applications have created more opportunities for individuals to receive health-related treatments, anytime, anywhere and anywhere. In the United States, 93% of adult gastroenterology patients have smartphones in medical teaching hospitals, and most of them are interested in using health-related applications. In addition, previous studies have shown the potential benefits and efficacy of mobile devices for self-care patients in diabetes, obesity and cancer. However, there are limited studies on the feasibility and effectiveness of mobile applications for enterostomy care. Researchers want to explore the effectiveness of mobile device intervention on home self-care ability and quality of life of patients with intestinal stoma.

Purpose: The HealthScore Health Coaching Program aims to deliver 6-months of 1:1 home-based health coaching to cancer patients receiving treatment and survivors of any diagnosis at UNC Cancer Hospital. This study hopes to preserve physical function, address unmet physical, nutritional, psychological, social and other needs. Procedures: This will be done through individualized health coaching, weekly symptom survey administration, monthly supportive care questionnaires, and physical assessments at baseline, 3 months and 6 months. Participants: All cancer patients with appointments at UNC Cancer Hospitals.

Ingrown Toenails : Surgery Only Versus Surgery + Chemical Cauterization With TCA

Ingrown toenail is a very common disease in the general population that touches young adults. There are lots of treatments from local care of pedicure to surgery with matricectomy. Gold standard of symptomatic and painful ingrown toenail is the simple surgery with matricectomy and with suture or directed healing pad. For many years chemical cauterisation with phenolic acid is used, a method with very few relapses and with a more simple pad. However, because of a lack of information about this phenolic acid, the pharmaceutical laboratory withdrew it from the market. The new method to replace phenolic acid is trichloroacetic acid, used mainly in cosmetics for peeling. This method was already compared to phenolic acid and showed equal results with fewer laps of application and a low cost. The comparison between acid trichloroacetic method and the gold standard surgery was never done and will be the goal of this study. It's an open, non randomised, comparative, multicentric (2 centers) study with two groups : common surgery and surgery with chemical cauterisation For this study the investigators will compare between the two groups : gain of quality of life at one month after surgery, difference of pain between before, one week and one month after surgery, the occurrence of adverse events and number of relapses at one year.

Theta Burst Stimulation for Headaches After Traumatic Brain Injury

The purpose of this study is to evaluate if theta burst stimulation (TBS) can reduce chronic headaches caused by a traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBS is a safe, drug-free brain stimulation technique that uses magnets to create electricity and stimulate nerve cells in the brain. After repeated TBS sessions, the increased stimulation of nerve cells can alter the way the brain communicates with itself (by creating new neural pathways) which, in turn, can reduce pain symptoms. Participants in this study will complete a baseline assessment followed by four weeks of daily home headache assessment. Participants will then receive four weeks of TBS administered three times per day and three days per week. After TBS is completed, participants will complete an additional four weeks of daily home headache assessment and return for a one-month follow-up assessment. Participation is expected to last three months.

In Latin America, inadequate treatment adherence and compliance in IBD patients is around 64% in Brazilians, 54.4% in Mexicans and 50.3% in Argentinians. In industrialised countries, it has been described that in IBD patients, features as younger age, low disease-related knowledge or low treatment adherence and compliance are negatively associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The following research pursues to better understand potential factors related to IBD patients' treatment adherence and compliance as well as patients' IBD-related knowledge level in a Latin American population, and their preferences and barriers when interacting with ICTs for clinical purposes; to develop and to validate an IBD MAHS for Spanish-Speaking patients with Crohn's and ulcerative colitis.
