NCT ID: NCT03500731 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Lung and Bone Marrow Transplantation for Lung and Bone Marrow Failure

Start date: April 19, 2018
Phase: Phase 1/Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a lung transplantation prior to bone marrow transplantation (BMT) would allow for restoration of pulmonary function prior to BMT, allowing to proceed to BMT, to restore hematologic function.

NCT ID: NCT03478553 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)

The Genetics of Pulmonary Fibrosis

Start date: January 18, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study seeks to screen first degree family members of people with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) for the earliest signs of lung fibrosis.

NCT ID: NCT03455686 Recruiting - Asthma Clinical Trials

Exploring the Utility of Hyperpolarized 129Xe MRI in Healthy Volunteers and Patients With Lung Disease

Start date: April 19, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This is a single centre exploratory study that aims to apply hyperpolarized xenon-129 (129Xe) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods and measurements in individual patients with and without lung disease to better understand lung structure and function and evaluate response to therapy delivered as a part of clinical care.

NCT ID: NCT03437486 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Mechanisms of Familial Pulmonary Fibrosis

Start date: January 1, 2009
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This a prospective, longitudinal study of first-degree family members of patients diagnosed with familial interstitial pneumonia (FIP). FIP is the familial form of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), which is defined as 2 or more bloodline relatives which have a diagnosis of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP). The most common form of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia in FIP families is IPF (approximately 70%). The inheritance pattern in FIP is consistent with autosomal dominant inheritance with incomplete penetrance. Therefore, individuals in this study have approximately 50% risk of carrying a disease-associated allele. The causative gene is currently only known approximately 20% of families. The main goal of this longitudinal study is to better establish the natural history of FIP and to identify risk factors for later development of symptomatic disease. The investigators' plan is to follow these at-risk individuals with yearly questionnaires and planned in person 2 year follow-ups through age 75 or until they develop symptomatic FIP.

NCT ID: NCT03360032 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Comparing Measurements Made in an Incremental Shuttle Walk Test and a Cardiopulmonary Exercise Test in Patients With IPF

Start date: January 10, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic and potentially fatal lung disease. As IPF progresses, patients become increasingly breathless with reduced exercise capacity and quality of life. A cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) is a gold standard way of assessing patients with IPF. An incremental shuttle walk test is simpler, cheaper, more widely available and anecdotally preferable to CPET. The investigators will compare the measurements made in an ISWT and a CPET in patients with IPF . We aim to determine whether sufficient information can be gathered in an ISWT to negate the need to undertake CPET.

NCT ID: NCT03286556 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, Acute Fatal Form

Autoantibody Reduction for Acute Exacerbations of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

STRIVE-IPF
Start date: September 4, 2018
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Acute exacerbations (AE) are a dreaded manifestation of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) that presents with rapidly worsening respiratory function over days to weeks. AE account for about 1/2 the deaths in IPF patients, and are refractory to all medical therapies attempted to date. Considerable preliminary data shows pathological B-cell abnormalities and autoantibodies are present in AE-IPF and associated with disease severity. The experimental therapy here (therapeutic plasma exchange plus rituximab plus intravenous immunoglobulin) is mechanistically targeted to ameliorate autoantibody-mediated pulmonary injury. Anecdotal pilot studies indicate these treatments have significant benefit for a disease syndrome that has, until now, been almost invariably inexorable. This clinical trial has the potential to profoundly affect current paradigms and treatment approaches to patients with AE-IPF.

NCT ID: NCT03273959 Recruiting - Cystic Fibrosis Clinical Trials

Program Of Exercises During The Hospitalization Of Children And Adolescents With Cystic Fibrosis

Start date: August 28, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a physical exercise program on the functional capacity of children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis hospitalized at the Hospital de Clínicas of Porto Alegre (HCPA) through a six-minute walk test using the distance traveled In six minutes. In the first 48 hours of hospital stay, the following evaluations will be performed: Six-minute walk test, physical and health fitness test, spirometry and data collection. Patients will be randomized to either control group or intervention group. The control group will receive the conventional treatment offered by hospital care, the intervention group will receive this same treatment plus an exercise protocol. After 14 days they will be reevaluated with the same tests applied at the beginning of hospitalization.

NCT ID: NCT03229343 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Impact of a Systematic Palliative Care on Quality of Life, in Advanced Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

PALIF
Start date: December 4, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare and severe disease with a survival median between 2 and 4 years which leads to a profound alteration of the quality of life. In thoracic oncology, the systematic and early intervention of a palliative care team result in an improvement of quality of life for patients. In the princeps study published in 2010, the early intervention of a dedicated palliative care team was compared to standard care in a randomized trial of 150 patients and shows a significant improvement : (i) of quality of life (main objective), (ii) of depression scores and even overall survival (11.6 months vs. 8.9 months, P = 0.02), (iii) a benefit in terms of understanding the diagnosis and therapeutic goals (3), (iv) diminution of adapted hospitalization in end of life (in emergency or not). Considering some analogy points between IPF and advanced lung cancer (prognosis, respiratory symptom, psychological burden), it seemed reasonable to assume that the joint systematic intervention of chest physician and palliative care team may provide a significant benefit in terms of quality of life for patients with severe IPF.
