Efficacy of a Triptan in the Treatment of Hostility and Aggression Among Convicts With a Psychiatric Treatment Order

In a double blind randomized clinical trial with cross-over design, treatment using naratriptan will be compared to placebo within a group of 30 convicts with psychiatric disorders such as psychosis or psychopathy with repeated aggressive outbursts resistant to conventional psychopharmacologic and other psychotherapeutic treatment. Hypothesis is that addition of naratriptan to the individual treatment regime reduces aggression -and improves general outcome- as compared to addition of placebo and is well tolerated in this group and under these conditions.

Risperidone LA Heathcare Resource Study

The primary objective of this pilot study is to evaluate the impact of switching 30 subjects from an existing antipsychotic to risperidone long acting on healthcare resource utilization. The study will be a ten month open-label, 'mirror-image', pilot study. Healthcare resource utilization during the 10 months prior to starting risperidone long acting will be retrospectively collected for all subjects (period A) at the beginning of the study. The utilization of direct medical resources will also be collected for 10 months after initiation of risperidone long acting (period B). In this design the patients will serve as their own control.

The objective of the Transition into Primary-care Psychiatry (TIPP) project is to determine how feasible it is to conduct a study to evaluate a new primary-care focused program of mental health care delivery for people with chronic mental illness. This will be done by comparing a primary-care based collaborative, interdisciplinary model to care-as-usual on health related quality of life, client symptomatology, client's perceived need of care, participant satisfaction and cost-effectiveness.
