NCT ID: NCT04356924 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Cognitive Impairment

Psychological Treatment to Support the Consequences of Cognitive Impairment

Start date: September 7, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The burden of cognitive impairment is severe, and often hinders affected people to act independently in daily life. Individuals in different stages of cognitive decline are frequently affected by existential distress and associated health issues (such as stress symptoms, anxiety, and depression), as well as social avoidance due to the unclear prognosis. Although the need for psychological support is large, there is a lack of efficient individualized psychological treatments- and methods to maintain psychological health that sufficiently impact daily life and promote behavioral- and biological change. In keeping with that notion, the investigators have developed a novel psychological treatment manual focused on supporting individuals with early phase cognitive impairment. The treatment manual is centered on facilitating behavioral change in accordance with personal values and long-term goals even in the presence of negative experiences, as well as to promote meaningful life-style changes. Conceptually, the treatment manual has its basis in the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) tradition, but the investigators have strived to adapt the manual to suit a cognitively affected population. The investigators will evaluate the psychological treatment in a RCT were the investigators will include approximately 138 individuals in their early phases of cognitive decline and randomize them into either an experimental group (psychological treatment), an active control group (cognitive training), or a treatment as usual control group. Evaluations will be conducted with, psychological health measures, cognitive assessments, and with biological markers. The investigators hypothesize that in comparison with the control conditions, the response to psychological treatment will be associated with improved psychological health and improved cellular protection.

NCT ID: NCT03937167 Completed - Obesity Clinical Trials

Benefits of Group Psychotherapy Programs in the Treatment of Obesity

Start date: January 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Obesity has reached pandemic proportions in recent years, affecting not only the physical health, but also the mental health, of obese people. According to Spain's National Health Survey 2011-12, the prevalence of obesity in the adult population of Spain was 17%, having increased by 2.5% since 2006. Therefore, a constant and worrying increase in the prevalence of obesity is being observed, which is having a great impact, both individually, in terms of health and quality of life, and socially, inter alia, by raising health expenditure due to increased morbidity. In this context, the desirability of a comprehensive approach that includes psychological intervention in attending obese patients (Rev Cochrane, 2006), has been given greater prominence. Paying attention to the emotional and psychopathological aspects related to obesity has proven to be an action that could have positive impact on obesity intervention models. The aim of this project is to measure, through a clinical trial, the efficacy of a psychotherapy group program for obesity patients who are attended by the consulting endocrinologist at the Infanta Leonor Hospital (Madrid). The impact of body mass index, psychological wellbeing, psychopathology and quality of life of two experimental study groups will be compared, one a control group of patients that follows the standard treatment, the other an experimental group that follows not only the standard treatment, but also the psychotherapy group intervention program.

NCT ID: NCT03813264 Not yet recruiting - Mental Health Clinical Trials

Optimizing Outcomes of Dynamic Psychotherapy by the MATRIX: A Preliminary Study

Start date: January 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Mental disorders require therapeutic effort that contains drug components and psychotherapeutic intervention. The latter requires many resources in light of the skill required. Moreover, such intervention is long, and it takes a long time to assess its effectiveness. The proposed study seeks to implement a management system (ie, a system that monitors and intervenes in ineffective and even harmful treatments) for the purpose of optimizing psychotherapies. The system monitors the improvement in patients' condition in treatment using a mobile phone-based system, and when the treatment is ineffective, it recommends correction strategies. The study will help reduce the ineffective or harmful treatment in dynamic psychotherapy, increasing the quality of care the patient receives. And will lead to the optimal utilization of resources in the mental health system.
