Screening for Arteriopathy in General Medicine: a Preliminary Feasibility Study

Outcomes of Femoro-popliteal Disease After Stent Deployment Under Intravascular Ultrasound Guidance

This is a prospective, single-center study. The patients with peripheral arterial disease who underwent abdominal aortograms with runoff (which are arteriograms of the lower abdominal aorta and arteries in the legs) and Intravascular Ultrasound after stent deployment will be enrolled in the study. All patients who participated in the study will be treated according to standard of care. HYPOTHESIS The higher degree of plaque burden on landing zone has an effect on restenosis on peripheral artery intervention. SPECIFIC AIMS 1. To determine intravascular ultrasound parameters of stent deployment and outcomes of Femoro-popliteal Disease 2. To determine clinical risk factors and outcomes of Femoro-popliteal Disease 3. To obtain data that will eventually support development of a predictive model for ISR in Femoro-popliteal Disease METHODOLOGY Visit 1: After consent is given The subject will receive standard follow-up care. A member of the research team will collect information such as the subject's age, sex, ethnicity, and medical information from the subject's medical record. Visits 2-5: 1 day after enrollment, and at months 3 (+- 2 weeks), 6 (+- 2 weeks), and 12 (+- 2 weeks) The subject will complete standard follow-up appointment at TTUHSC. This may include a Doppler ultrasound. A member of the research team will record information such as medications, ultrasounds, and need for additional care related to the subject's stent. The subject will complete the questionnaire on leg pain and mobility.

VADOplex Critical Limb Ischemia Study

In patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) and foot ulcers wound healing is an important goal which can normally only be achieved after sufficient treatment of the underlying ischemia (revascularization either by an operation, e. g. bypass, or a catheter intervention). After successful revascularization everything should be done to improve wound healing because this regularly takes weeks up to several months. One possibility to speed up healing could be treatment with the VADOplex device which delivers an automatic intermittent painless compression of the sole of the foot thereby increasing perfusion of the leg. This system can be easily operated by patients themselves and at home. Our goal is to prove that the VADOPlex system accelerates healing up and improves quality of life.

Research question: Is there an adjuvant benefit of angioplasty and stenting using the new paclitaxel eluting stent, Zilver-PTX, over risk factor modification and medical therapy alone in patients with stable, mild to moderate intermittent claudication caused by femoropopliteal lesions suitable for endovascular management.

Physical Activity Daily - An Internet-Based Walking Program for Patients With Peripheral Arterial Disease

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a significant vascular condition affecting millions of adults. Exercise such as walking is highly effective for reducing PAD symptoms such as claudication (pain with walking) and improving physical function. The trial examines the efficacy of a internet-delivered walking program for patients with PAD. Comparator groups including telephone counselling, the combination of internet-delivered walking program + telephone counseling, or usual care. The primary outcome of interest is maximal walking distance.

White Blood Cell Counts and Onset of Cardiovascular Diseases: a CALIBER Study

The complete blood count is a commonly performed blood test, and previous small studies have suggested that the counts of some types of white blood cell in the complete blood count may be related to the onset of cardiovascular diseases such as stroke and heart attack. This is of interest because this information may help to predict strokes or heart attacks and may guide new therapies which act on white blood cells to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The hypothesis is that counts of particular types of white blood cell are associated with a range of cardiovascular diseases.

Comparison of the Rangerâ„¢ Paclitaxel-Coated PTA Balloon Catheter and Uncoated PTA Balloons in Femoropopliteal Arteries

The primary objective of this study is to prove the superior performance of the Rangerâ„¢ paclitaxel-coated PTA balloon catheter for angioplasty for femoropopliteal artery lesions when compared to non-coated balloons at six months post-procedure when comparing Late Lumen Loss (LLL). Study statistical hypothesis: The %-mean loss of luminal diameter as assessed by angiography at six months follow-up after treatment of the femoropopliteal artery with Ranger DCB study devices is lower than the %-mean loss of luminal diameter after treatment with uncoated PTA balloon control devices.

Multicentric Non-randomized Investigation of RESISTANT Camouflage Stent-system

Non-randomized multicenter post-market study to confirm the long-term safety and effectiveness of the CE-approved Camouflage-coated self-expandable RESISTANT Camouflage stent system for revascularization of de novo stenotic lesions in the superficial femoral artery in 100 compliant patients suitable for stent angioplasty. The CE-approved device will be used according to its intended use. Beyond the standard of care no further interventions are scheduled. Therefore, this trial is subject to the exception to the rule §23b of the German Medical Device Act (MPG), which includes the national implementation of EC directive 93/42/EEC.

Yoga to Improve Physical Function and Maximal Walking Distance Among Patients With Peripheral Arterial Disease

The investigators propose to pilot test a six-week yoga program among adults with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Participants (n=50) will be randomized to a six-week yoga intervention (n=25) or wait-list control (n=25). The yoga intervention will include a weekly yoga class currently used among cardiac rehab patients at the University of Michigan Health System, together with home-based practice sessions. Participants will perform treadmill testing at baseline and 6 weeks to assess walking capacity. The primary outcomes of interest include 1) acceptability of the program by participants, 2) feasibility of recruitment, 3) change in maximal walking distance, 4) change in claudication symptoms, and 5) change in health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The investigators expect this will inform us on the acceptability and feasibility of a larger proposal examining yoga in PAD patients. These data will also inform on the effect size in maximal walking, and HRQOL, which will be used to estimate the sample size needed for a larger R01 level proposal. Study hypotheses: Hypothesis 1: Participants will find the yoga program acceptable with low drop-out rates (<15%), excellent attendance (>80% classes attended), and good completion of the home-based practice sessions (self-report >80% completed). Hypothesis 2: The yoga intervention will be feasible for a larger study based on numbers of potential participants approached, and those who consent to participate vs. those who do not. Hypothesis 3: Increases in maximal walking distance and pain-free walking distance (from baseline to 6 weeks) will be greater in the participants randomized to the yoga intervention compared to the control group. Hypothesis 4: Self-reported claudication symptoms will be reduced to a greater degree (at 6 weeks) among participants randomized to the yoga intervention compared to the control group. Hypothesis 5: Increases in HRQOL (from baseline to 6 weeks) will be greater in the participants randomized to the yoga intervention compared to the control group.
