Motivational Interviewing to Support Oral AntiCoagulation Adherence in Patients With Non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation (MISOAC-AF)

The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of motivational interviewing in the adherence of patients with AF to oral anticoagulation (OAC) regimens. Patients assigned to the intervention group will be interviewed and guided on the importance of adherence to OAC medication, and will be contacted at 1 week, 2 months, 6 months and 1 year after discharge for educational interactive sessions. Patients in the control group will receive usual treatment and will be contacted at 1 year after discharge.

Animated Cartoons and Cooperation in Young Children Receiving Inhaled Medications

Up to 50% of infants and young children cry during the administration of their inhaled treatment for their asthma. This results in decreased lung deposition, and thus decreased effectiveness of their inhaled treatment. The objective of this study is to evaluate whether animated cartoons can increase the cooperation of young children with asthma who are not cooperative during the delivery of their ICS therapy through a pMDI/spacer.

Smart Linkage-to-HIV Care Via a Smartphone App

This randomized controlled trial evaluates the provision of individual patient laboratory results to newly diagnosed HIV positive smartphone users through a secure application (app) as a method to get them linked to and retained in care, and engage with educational materials purposefully developed to explain their results. Message prompts will also be used to alert patients that their results are ready and provide information on how to link to care, and assistance to re-link to care if they fall out of the health system for any reason. Prompts will be sent to patients to remind health care workers if they are due for repeat laboratory monitoring. The primary endpoint is linkage to care (a HIV-related laboratory test) at 6 months. The control group received standard of care.

The Study Buddy ECA acts as an advisor to patients on chemotherapy regimens, promoting protocol adherence and retention, providing anticipatory guidance and answering questions, serving as a conduit to capture information about complaints or adverse events, providing a venue for communicating about updates. The Study Buddy will use the web-based ECA infrastructure developed for use on another project. We will use web browsers on tablets provided to study participants to access the Study Buddy, providing anywhere, anytime access to its functions. Usability metrics will include session time, satisfaction, and error rates.
