Non-Pharmacological Nursing Pain Management for Preterm Infants

Start date: January 2, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A randomized controlled trial will be conducted to examine the effect of non-pharmacological nursing pain management strategies in alleviating pain among preterm infants. The study includes a simple random sample of 105 preterm infants with CGA 32- < 37 weeks were randomly assigned into five groups: routine care (n = 21), breast milk (n = 21), oral sucrose (n = 21), KMC (n = 21), nesting position (n = 21). PIPP-R will be used to subjectively assess the pain intensity after heel stick, and salivary cortisol measures will be used to objectively assess the pain intensity in NICU at Children Welfare Teaching Hospital/ Medical City Complex in Baghdad City.

NCT ID: NCT05928520 Not yet recruiting - Pain Management Clinical Trials

Pain Management in Pediatric Adenotonsillectomy

AZU
Start date: August 1, 2023
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Tonsillectomy is considered one of the most frequent minor surgeries conducted on a day-case basis on children, and usually associated with pain and sore throat. This study aimed to include 80 children, ASA physical status I&II aged 4-15 years, and undergoing tonsillectomy. The purpose of this study is to determine the analgesic efficacy of topically applied lidocaine and tramadol in relieving post-operative pain in children following tonsillectomy.

NCT ID: NCT05912101 Active, not recruiting - Hip Fractures Clinical Trials

Comparison of the Effects of Pericapsular Nerve Group (PENG), Suprainguinal Fascia Iliaca Compartment (S-FICB) and 3-1 Blocks on Comfort in Positioning for Unilateral Spinal Anesthesia and Postoperative Pain in Hip Fracture Surgery

Start date: January 1, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Hip fracture is a common cause of surgery, especially in elderly patients. Unilateral spinal anesthesia in hip fracture surgery can prevent the undesirable effects of spinal anesthesia due to sympathetic blockade. However, severe pain in hip fracture patients limits the positioning required for unilateral spinal anesthesia. The sedation and analgesia required to position patients with fractured hip remains inferior may cause respiratory depression, hemodynamic instability or postoperative cognitive impairment, especially in elderly patients. Lower extremity peripheral blocks can be used preoperatively to minimize the use of sedatives that may be required during positioning and to provide effective and safe analgesia.

NCT ID: NCT05911542 Recruiting - Pain Management Clinical Trials

Dentists' Attitudes Towards Pharmacological Management of Acute Pain in Children and Adolescents - a Follow-up Survey

Start date: April 1, 2023
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The aim of this study is to investigate Swedish dentists' attitudes about pain management when treating children and adolescents by assessing 1) dentists' recommendations for the use of pre- and postoperative analgesics, (2) use of local anaesthesia during treatment of primary and permanent teeth, and (3) if the use of these strategies differs between General Dental Practitioners (GDP) and Specialist Paediatric Dentists (SPD). All Swedish SPDs (including post-graduate dentists in paediatric dentistry), circa 150 in total, and approximately 1,000 GDPs in County Skåne, Sweden will be invited to answer a questionnaire.

NCT ID: NCT05887596 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

The Effect of Patient Education on Pain

Start date: December 15, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Objective: The study was conducted to determine the effect of patient education on pain level and fear of pain in orthopedics and traumatology patients Methods: The study is a randomized controlled experimental research design. Data were collected between December 15, 2021, and March 15, 2022 using the Information Form, Fear of Pain Scale-III, and Visual/Visual Analogue Scale. A total of 52 patients, 26 in the intervention group and 26 in the control group were included in the study. The intervention group received patient education about the operation process and pain management the day before and the morning of the operation day. Number Cruncher Statistical System and Statistical Software (Kaysville, Utah, USA) were used to analyse the data Keywords: Fear of Pain, Pain, Pain Management, Patient Education

NCT ID: NCT05857202 Recruiting - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Oxidative Stress and Inflammation Biomarkers in Surgically Treated Patients With Laryngeal Cancer

Start date: September 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

A experimental interventional prospective study will include patients with squamocellular carcinoma of the larynx surgically treated at the tertiary referral center. Clinical and demographic characteristics of the patients would be noted. The visual analog scale (VAS), Brief Pain Inventory questionnaire, Diagnosing Neuropathic Pain 4 (DN4) and Pain Detect Questionnaire were used for pain assessment. Questionnaire Quality of Life in Head and Neck Cancer Patients (QLQ - H&N35) was used to assess the quality of life in patients with surgically treated laryngeal carcinoma. The type and consumption of analgesics used after surgery was monitored. The analgesics were used according to WHO Ladder. Blood samples ware taken from the patients for the analysis of oxidative stress parameters and inflammation parameters before the operative treatment and after the operative treatment (1-2 postoperative day and 9-10 postoperative day). The concentrations of interleukin 1 (IL-1) and 6 (IL-6), glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1), superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum were determined. The aim of the study will be to assess concentrations of inflammatory biomarkers (IL-1, IL-6) and oxidative stress factors (MDA, SOD, GPKS1) in postoperative course in surgically treated patients with laryngeal carcinoma and in possible complication occurrence. Also, their correlation to type and dosage of used analgesics, to pain assessment questionnaire scores and QOL questionnaire scores in surgically treated patients with laryngeal carcinoma will be assessed.

NCT ID: NCT05794828 Recruiting - Pain Management Clinical Trials

Erector Spinae Regional Anesthesia for Pain Control

Start date: September 15, 2023
Phase: Early Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Interventional study to use erector spinae plane block (ESPB) on diagnoses of posterior or lateral rib fractures, vertebral fractures, pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, renal colic, and back pain for multimodal pain therapy to determine its assistance with pain relief as well as the patient's use of opiates after block completion

NCT ID: NCT05705128 Recruiting - Pain Management Clinical Trials

Dexmedetomidine in Postoperative Analgesia

Any
Start date: August 1, 2023
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

There is a high incidence reaching up to 45%; of severe intraoperative and postoperative pain associated with arthroscopic shoulder surgery, which is often significant enough to interfere with initial recovery and rehabilitation.Various peripheral nerve blocks have been used to reduce intraoperative anesthetic requirements to improve rapid recovery and reduce postoperative pain.

NCT ID: NCT05649228 Completed - Pain Management Clinical Trials

Thermosensitivity of a Topical Palmitated Formulation of Capsaicin

Start date: December 13, 2022
Phase: Early Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This is a study of the effects of capsaicin, the ingredient that makes hot peppers hot. Capsaicin is currently used in topical ointments to provide temporary relief of minor aches and joint pain associated with arthritis, simple backache, strains, and sprains. This is a pilot research study that compares the potential of two different capsaicin creams to cause irritation or burning sensation when a small amount (about the size of a quarter) is applied to each forearm of a participant. The amount of capsaicin used in the creams is the same as those found in over-the-counter capsaicin products. The test creams are experimental.
