The secondary objectives of the study are: - To assess intra- and inter-observer variability in the measurement of local pleural strain - To identify the strain parameters demonstrating the most clinically relevant and the most significant correlation with a change in tidal volume Hypothesis: The analysis of lung ultrasonographic sequences using speckle-tracking allows the determination of local pleural strain in 4 predetermined pulmonary areas.
The family of cytochrome P450 (CYP) is the most important drug metabolizing enzymes which contributes to the metabolism of a large proportion of drugs in humans. Some CYP450 enzymes reduce or alter the pharmacodynamic activity of many drugs and are involved in oxidative metabolism and elimination of many drugs commonly used by the population. Polymorphisms in CYP2C8 and CYP2C9 are common in different populations around the world and genetic variations in these alleles can cause decreased enzyme activity to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as celecoxib, diclofenac, ibuprofen, indomethacin, lornoxicam, meloxicam, valdecoxib, piroxicam, tenoxicam and naproxen. This compromise the bioavailability of the drug can alter the pharmacokinetics of these drugs and patients with mutations in these genes can exhibit increased plasma concentrations of values and areas under the curve (AUC), in addition to decreased clearance of drugs. Associations between NSAIDs and gastric protectors or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have become common nowadays, especially in patients who make chronic use of these drugs. Naproxen associated to esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), was launched in the market recently and its application in acute pain is not yet elucidated. Esomeprazole suffers strong influence of CYP2C19 (hepatic drug-metabolizing enzyme that degrades PPIs). In patients with high enzyme activity of the CYP2C19, the drug can suffer high enzymatic degradation, and its diminished effect. Moreover, in patients with low enzyme CYP2C19 activity, the effect of acid inhibition by PPIs can be very strong.

The purpose of this study is to compare the glucose, insulin and subjective hunger responses elicited by oats with additional dried fruits, nuts and seeds soaked overnight in skim milk and consumed cold versus Cream of Rice cereal with additional dried fruits, nuts and seeds cooked just prior to its consumption.
This is a multicenter, double-blind, randomized and placebo-controlled trial. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Xue-Fu-Zhu-Yu Capsule (XFZYC) for Qi Stagnation and Blood Stasis syndrome (QS&BSS). QS&BSS is one of the common Zhengs in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which manifests as various symptoms and signs, such as distending pain or tingling sensation in a fixed position, irritability or depression, dim complexion, lumps in body, blood spot under the skin, unsmooth or string-like pulse, purplish tongue or petechia in the tongue, etc. In fact, Qi stagnation and blood stasis are common pathological conditions that would occur on human body for several times in the long period of human's life. Besides, QS&BSS is associated with over 50 kinds of diseases including Coronary Heart Disease, hypertension, cerebral infarction, gastritis, arthritis, dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic infection, skin disease, and cancer. Xue-Fu-Zhu-Yu Capsule, one of Chinese herbal medicine drugs, could perform the function of promoting Qi and activating blood to relieve the symptoms of QS&BSS, which was approved by the China Food and Drug Administration in 2002. It has been applied for QS&BSS since it was recorded in the book Correction on Errors in Medical Classics 200 years ago. In recent years, a number of clinical trials have focused on the effectiveness and safety of XFZYC on patients with QS&BSS subtype of coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia, ischemic cerebrovascular disease, gastritis, dysmenorrhea, and arthritis in terms of the outcomes of relevant diseases. Our research group plan this randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Xue-Fu-Zhu-Yu Capsule (XFZYC). A total of 120 patients will be enrolled at the following three hospitals: (1)Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, (2)Huguosi TCM Hospital Affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, (3)Wangjing Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, China. All participants, with different kinds of disease, will receive the standard medical care according to the guidelines. Participants will undergo a 7-week treatment. The primary outcome is the total score of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) Scale in Patients of QS&BSS; the secondary outcome is the score of the single symptom and sign scale of QS&BSS and the score of the pain scale of QS&BSS on the day of enrollment, and at 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th weeks. Safety outcomes include physical examination (temperature, respiration, heart rate, blood pressure, height and weight); electrocardiogram (ECG); complete blood cell count; coagulation function (prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), thrombin time (TT), fibrinogen (FIB), D-Dimer, INR); urinalysis; fecal occult blood test; Liver function (ALT, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), serum total bilirubin (STB), and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GT)); renal function (Creatinine (Cr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and urine N-acetyl-β glucosaminidase) on the day of enrollment, and at 7th weeks.
The primary objective of the study is to investigate whether topical Vitamin K application reduces the grade of erythema in comparison with a vehicle cream (placebo) through physicians' assessment and participant self-assessment. The secondary objectives of this study are to evaluate in this study population: effects of Vitamin K in reducing the burning sensation and local pain; effects of Vitamin K in reducing the erythema diameter; and the evaluation of participants' satisfaction related to the injection treatment.
The primary purpose of this study is to determine if the loss of internal rotation following a throwing session is best restored through soft tissue stretching with the sleeper stretch or with scapular repositioning with the 90/90 hip lift with balloon blow exercise. This study will progress the body of research related to internal rotation deficits with regards to baseball throwers. The research will be relevant to clinicians who treat patients with baseball players with internal rotation loss. High school baseball players will be the targeted subjects for this study. They will perform two exercises (one per week) designed to increase shoulder internal rotation over the course of three weeks with one week of rest between intervention weeks. The primary outcome will be shoulder internal rotation range of motion improvements over the course of one week's time. There are no known adverse risks to either intervention.
This study is designed as post market clinical follow-up study with CE-marked products to evaluate the AV Opt and LV VectorOpt features in the respective Edora family pacemakers under clinical conditions. Furthermore, adverse events will be evaluated to identify residual risks associated with the use of the BIOTRONIK Edora family pacemakers. The study is further designed to address potential regulatory needs of clinical data for countries and regions not covered by the CE approval.
Owing to effective treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) has become a chronic disease with a rising prevalence globally. Although the possibility of stopping TKI therapy in CML patients who have achieved deep molecular responses is a topic of active debate and investigation, life-long treatment remains the current standard of care. It has been estimated that 3% to 56% of CML patients are not adherent to their prescribed TKI therapy. Poor adherence to TKIs could compromise the control of CML, and contributes to poorer survival. CML patients on long-term TKI therapy are prone to developing certain medication-related issues such as adverse reactions and drug interactions.Occurrence of adverse reactions even at low grades, has been shown to impact CML patient's health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and adherence to treatment. However, there is no prospective high quality evidence showing adherence to TKIs and the associated clinical outcomes can be improved in CML patients. Therefore, the investigators hypothesize that medication management intervention by pharmacist might improve adherence to TKIs, and translate into better disease response and HRQoL in CML patients, when compared to control arm who receive standard pharmacy service.
