The Effectiveness of Two Different Feedbacks in Core Stabilization Education for Chronic Nonspecific Low Back Pain

Abstract. Insufficient motor control mechanism of transversus abdominus and multifidus muscles is the most important cause of the chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP). Recently, applications sre developed that generates audio and vibrant stimuli in response to anteroposterior and mediolateral rotations and can be adapted according to subject-specific movement sensitivity. Objective. The objective of this study was to compare effects of a biofeedback application that is alternative to physiotherapist feedback in core stabilization training of patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain. Design. This study was a parallel group randomized controlled trial with outcome assessment. Patients. The participants were 38 patients with chronic (≥12 weeks) nonspecific low back pain. Interventions. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either physiotherapist feedback or Perfect Practice (Level Belt Pro Inc.) biofeedback. Patients in both groups received 12 sessions, 30 minutes of three weekly graded functional core education trial. Measurements. Primary outcome measures were muscle strength (transversus abdominus and multifidus) pain intensity (Visual Analog Scale) and functional level (Revised Oswestry Disability Index); secondary outcomes were flexibility (modified Schober test), range of motion (universal goniometer), proprioception (Active Reposition Test), patient beliefs (Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire), psychological status (Beck Depression Index), and quality of life(36 Item Short-Form Health Survey questionnaire [SF-36]). The prevalence of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and the proportion of endovascular procedures for treatment are increasing worldwide. For many cases of treatment or procedures no randomized controlled trials (RCT) or results from meta-analyses are so far available. The decision for treatment and selection of procedure is therefore not uncommonly left up to the personal expertise of the physician. The IDOMENEO study represents a multistage multimethodological project for healthcare research and quality assurance in interdisciplinary vascular medicine, which undertakes a comprehensive examination of this topic. Various methods and data sources (even routine data) are linked in a meaningful way. The essential components of the total project are implementation of a register platform (GermanVasc), which conforms to data protection and data security as well as the development of instruments for valid measurement of the quality of life of patients with PAD. The data protection-conform linking of primary data in the register and routine data of the consortium partner BARMER should also enable validation of the data sources.

Targeted Muscle Reinnervation increases the control signals available for commercial arm systems. A new type of control, pattern recognition, has been developed into a form that allows use with commercially available arm system. The goal of this project is a home trial, in which people who have had TMR will try the new controls and the new arm to find out if they are better than what is currently available. Home trials will also allow us to see what needs to be done to make our inventions work even better.

The investigators are conducting a randomized controlled trial using an adaptive design for adolescents (ages 12-18) with anorexia nervosa to compare standard Family Based Treatment (FBT) to adaptive FBT with an Intensive Parental Coaching (IPC) component. If participants do not reach expected milestones by session 4 of treatment, participants may be randomized to receive additional IPC or continue treatment as usual with regular FBT.

RATIONALE: Placing a tumor antigen chimeric receptor that has been created in the laboratory into patient autologous or donor-derived T cells may make the body build immune response to kill cancer cells. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying genetically engineered lymphocyte therapy in treating patients with B-cell leukemia or lymphoma that is relapsed (after stem cell transplantation or intensive chemotherapy) or refractory to chemotherapy.
