Filter by:This will be a phase I, open, multicenter, international study performed by 3 participating centres across two countries (Italy and Switzerland). Fifteen to 24 patients affected by SPMS will be enrolled, according to a "standard" phase I design over 18 months. All patients will enter a 3 months run in phase. Thereafter they will receive one of four different doses of allogenic hNSCs (dose A=5 millions hNSCs; dose B=10 millions hNSCs; dose C=16 millions hNSCs; dose D=24 millions hNSCs). Following hNSCs injection, all SPMS patients will receive immunosuppression with tacrolimus for 6 months. Patients will be clinically followed monthly for 1 year and then every 6 months for the 5 years following the study completion (possibly all life long). MRI assessments will be performed monthly for the first 6 months and then every 3 months for 5 years following the study completion.
The nasotracheal intubation is preferred for oral surgery; it provides an easier view of the surgical field. However, nasotracheal tubes are produced by foreign countries. Tubes are often not fitted in anatomy of Korean people because of small nostril. When the size of the tube is chosen by nostril size, the length of nasotracheal tube is not appropriate to the glottis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the appropriateness of the tube depth and to suggest the ideal length of the nasotracheal tube during the intubation of the selected tracheal tube in consideration of the size of the nasal cavity in Koreans. 146 patients (73 males and 73 females) who are scheduled for nasal intubation for general anesthesia will be enrolled. The primary outcome is the ideal length of tube that allows the distance from the vocal cords to the proximal portion of the tube cuff to be greater than 2 cm and the tip of the intubated tube to be located 5 ± 2 cm above the tracheal carina. The size of nostril, length from the nare to the carina and vocal cord are measured.
The purpose of this study is to examine if thigh muscle weakness and the lack of muscle activation that accompanies ACL injury and reconstruction can be improved with functional resistance training.
The objectives of this study are to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Radiesse for the correction of nasolabial folds (NLFs).
A lot of patients seem to complain after hysteroscopic tubal occlusion by Essure® device with a worce quality of life. Investigators' hypothesis is that Essure® laparoscopic removal may improve quality of life. This prospectice study aim to assess the quality of life 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after Essure® removal.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) to identify small oropharyngeal carcinomas. Findings from this study will be used to better determine which patients may be suitable for more targeted radiotherapy that would lead to a reduction in the total amount of radiotherapy needed as part of their treatment. Reducing the amount of radiotherapy received has been found to reduce the risk of late complications and toxicity to the patient. The pathologic findings will then be used to determine patients who may be candidates for de-intensification of radiotherapy.
Rapid ventricular pacing (RVP) is a technique to obtain flow arrest for short periods of time during dissection or rupture of the aneurysm. RVP results in an adequate fall of blood pressure which presents as an on-off phenomenon. It is not clear whether repetitive periods of pacing are harmless for the patient. Silent cardiac and cerebral infarcts may be undetected. The investigator will study the safety of RVP, particularly for the heart and the brain, retrograde by studying troponin levels and magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography.
Ineffective hemostasis or a paradoxical prothrombotic state of Acute-on-chronic liver disease (ACLF) has been well established. Thrombelastography measures the dynamics of thrombin production and provides a global assessment of coagulation incorporating the cumulative effect of the interactions at various levels between plasma components and cellular component of coagulation. And through the platelet mapping, it can help provide a picture of patients' function of platelet. This study aims to explore the predictive role of platelet mapping in ACLF prognosis, organ failure developments and short term mortality.
The antifungal efficacy and safety of Jublia® topical solution will be assessed through an administration for 48 weeks to patients diagnosed with a mild or moderate onychomycosis due to dermatophyte.
Bangladesh has the earliest patterns of marriage in the current developing world, high adolescent fertility and high rates of spousal violence against women and girls. Women and girls are often denied the right to choice or consent with respect to marriage, sex, contraceptive use and childbearing. However, the denial of these rights and its consequences, have not been adequately recognized and addressed in the context of the existing discourse or interventions in Bangladesh on sexual and reproductive health or violence against women. It is envisaged that the focus on realizing the right to choice and consent will bring about change in attitudes and behaviors that could not be achieved through a single intervention. A multi-sectoral action research-based intervention is proposed, involving access to information about rights, available remedies and related referrals. Information will be coupled with access to legal and health services. This action research project aims to create a body of evidence. This multi-sectoral intervention in urban Bangladesh will highlight the critical element of expressing or refusing consent and choice, through a strong network between legal services, reproductive and sexual health service providers, human rights advocates, and research organizations. This project proposes to implement an integrated intervention with both primary preventions and curative components based on the findings of the formative research. This project will document the program implementation and impact through detailed quantitative and qualitative evidence gathering, and carrying out an advocacy program to disseminate the results and bring about change. It includes: - designing culturally sensitive intervention activities with a joined up approach. - a strong community mobilization campaign for creating an enabling environment for women to live violence free lives. - individual access to reproductive and sexual health services provided through health clinics and legal services, with legal clinics providing information, advice and support access to judicial remedies for redress in cases of serious violence. - broader advocacy activities involving key stakeholders to reflect upon the findings and understandings geneated by the study and their relevance for the administration of justice delivery mechanisms. Community engagement in the project will occur at multiple levels. At the local level the project will engage through community mobilisation and service delivery with adolescent girls, women and men living in urban slums of Dhaka city. It will also undertake targeted advocacy programmes with the frontlines of the justice delivery system relevant to these areas. Finally, it will engage at a national level with policymakers, researchers and key stakeholders in the justice system and health through its advocacy related interventions, drawing directly upon its findings.
