The purpose of this study is to investigate how a high-fructose diet, either by high fructose intake from complex, natural foods or by fortifying the diet with corn syrup, affects the metabolism. Furthermore, it will be investigate if there are differences between obese and normal weight participants.
In a cross-over study the investigators evaluate the effects of natural (Panmol-B-Complex) (Pan [Greek] = all; moles [Latin] = molecules/particles - brand name) versus synthetic vitamin B complexes to identify the bioavailability of distinct vitamins as well as long-term effects. The primary hypothesis for this study: "Natural Vitamin B-complexes are as effective as synthetic Vitamin B-complexes or better." For this reason 30 subjects (18 to 65y; BMI >19 to <29) were recruited for this study. The study population was divided into 2 groups of each 15 subjects in a cross-over trial. Vitamin supplementation consisted of Thiamine (2.93 mg), Riboflavin (3.98 mg), Niacin (29.85 mg), Pantothenic acid (10.95 mg), Pyridoxine (3.38 mg), Biotin (0.108 mg), Folic acid (0.69 mg) and Cobalamin (8.85 µg) per day in both groups. Blood samples are taken at baseline - 1.5h after vitamin supplementation - 4h - 7h - 6 weeks - wash out phase I (2 weeks); start cross-over: baseline - 1.5h after vitamin supplementation - 4h - 7h - 6 weeks - washout phase II (6 weeks). In case of main target criteria Thiamin, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine, Folic acid and Cobalamin were measured in serum as well as total peroxides (µmol/L), peroxidase-activity (U/L), total antioxidant status (mmol/L) and polyphenols (mmol/L).
Zika virus (ZIKV) infection is a new emerging arbovirus disease, caused by the same vector that transmits Dengue virus, Aedes aegypti. ZIKV is a growing public health problem, rapidly spreading throughout the continents since the first epidemic was reported in the French Polynesian islands. Currently, there are several ZIKV vaccine candidates in clinical trials. However, no ZIKV therapy (biologic or small molecule) has advanced to clinical trials. Tyzivumab will be the first therapeutic in the world, specifically targeting ZIKV, to enter clinical trials. This is a Phase 1, first in human, time-lagged, parallel-group, single dose ascending (6 dose cohorts), Tyzivumab, ZIKV monoclonal antibody (mAb), study to be conducted in 24 flaviviral naïve healthy adult volunteers. Tyzivumab will be administered once through single IV infusion over 30 minutes. Total duration of study participation is estimated at approximately 98 days from the date of screening. Post-trial monitoring through weekly telephone calls will continue from Day 85 post-dose onwards for another three (3) more months. The main objective of this study is to evaluate safety of Tyzivumab in healthy adult volunteers through assessment of subject vital signs, clinical laboratory results, ECG, presence/absence of AE/SAE, PK and ADA.
A longitudinal observational study examining preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative factors associated with Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction in patients older than the age of 50.
Children's education students are able to identify a possible emergency and in their case act appropriately. The authors think that the propsed training will improve the knowledge, change the attitude and improve their practical skills, and also retain the information over time.
This is a multicenter, exploratory, randomized, double-blind study of the administration of mavacamten in 60 participants with symptomatic nHCM randomized to receive a 16-week course of mavacamten doses titrated to achieve 1 of 2 target drug concentrations.
this study helps us to compare and evaluate prospectively the benefits and safety of early hydration on bowel movement after cesarean section it includes two groups, a control group and a study group. the study group will get 200 ml of sugar free water within 1 hour after cs while the control group will get 200 ml of sugar free water 6 hours after cs
Background: Intravenous lipid emulsions (IVLE) are an essential component of parenteral nutrition (PN). Omega-6 reducing strategies may improve outcomes, including reduced PN associated liver disease. Objective: The primary objective was to compare serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), among surgical and medical patients provided with either Intralipid or Clinoleic lipid emulsions. Design: In this quasi-experimental study the medical records of surgical and medical adult patients were reviewed from 3 Canadian hospitals that received PN with either soybean oil (Intralipid) or predominantly olive oil (Clinoleic) based lipid emulsions for at least 7 consecutive days.
An observational prospective will be conducted to determine the detection rate of serrated adenoma during screening colonoscopy at our institution. Additionally, the variability of serrated adenoma detection among endoscopists will be evaluated and the characteristics of serrated adenomas will be described.
