Filter by:This trial studies the frequency of incident and prevalent of cancer in people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) at cancer centers in Latin America. By counting how many people living with HIV/AIDS have cancer at these specific centers, researchers may better understand how they are being treated and cared for. This may help researchers to understand what new studies may be helpful for those areas in the future.
This is a prospective, multicentre cohort study in which the accuracy and the diagnostic yield of the FujiLAM test will be assessed using a microbiological reference standard, an extended microbiological reference standard and a composite reference standard among inpatient and outpatient people living with HIV (PLHIV).
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is the most common cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in adolescents. The refractory nature of FSGS and a more than 30% recurrence rate after kidney transplantation renders treatment of FSGS one of the most difficult challenges in pediatric nephrology. A significant knowledge gap in understanding the mechanism of FSGS treatment resistance and progression hampers development of successful treatment strategies. Beneficial effect of removal of low-density lipoproteins by LDL-apheresis indicates that lipids contribute to progression in FSGS. The investigators will test the hypothesis that removal of Lp-PLA2 and lipid metabolites by LDL-apheresis ameliorates proteinuria and cardiovascular comorbidities. Patients with FSGS and FSGS recurrence after kidney transplantation receiving LDL-apheresis as part of standard of care will be enrolled to the study. Pre-and post serum and effluent concentrations of LPC, free FA, Lp-PLA2, oxidized LDL, fasting lipid profile, interleukin (IL)-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and IL-1β will be monitored in patients undergoing LDL-apheresis. Investigators will also study the impact of LDL-apheresis on cardiovascular and clinical comorbidities by monitoring degree of proteinuria, blood pressures and arterial stiffness index.
Asthma is a serious global health problem affecting people of all ages in every country in the world. Despite the presence of effective medications, many studies have reported poor asthma control in patients. Therefore, new approaches are needed to improve asthma control. Pulmonary rehabilitation is recommended as an alternative approach in patients with chronic lung disease including asthma. Also, home-based type of pulmonary rehabilitation can be preferred because it is more cost-effective and patients can spend more time with their families. There are a limited number of studies in the literature evaluating the efficacy of home-based pulmonary rehabilitation in asthmatic patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of home-based pulmonary rehabilitation program with simple equipment in asthmatic patients.
The ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate is produced during prolonged fasting or when endogenous carbohydrate stores are depleted and can be used as an alternative fuel source. Exogenous beta-hydroxybutyrate, in the form of a ketone monoester, is proposed to have glucose-lowering potential but this has not been adequately studied. The purpose of this study is to determine whether supplementing with an acute dose of ketone monoester can improve the glycemic response to a high carbohydrate mixed meal in young healthy individuals.
The objective of this project is to develop an effective, yet feasible strategy to extend school-night sleep duration of older adolescents.
The outcome of peripheral nerve injury is related to age, level of injury, the injured nerve, the severity of injury, and the timing and the type of surgery interventions. In addition, high-level peripheral nerve injury would not full recovery, and the prognosis is determined by the nerve regeneration. Conventional physical therapy includes electrical stimulation for denervated muscles, and soft tissue massage, joint range of motion exercises to maintain the flexibility of the affected joint, muscle or connected tissues. However, the nerve regeneration takes several months in high-level median, ulnar or radial nerve injury. Prolonged median or ulnar nerves injury may interfere intrinsic muscular function, and radial nerve injury causes drop hand. Earlier nerve regeneration or motor training is essential for the patients to return to normal life and increase their quality of life
Assessment of postoperative acute kidney insufficiency according to the KDIGO classification using the Nephrocheck system. Multicentric, prospective study Open TAAA Repair in 3-4 centers in Germany and Europe
Here, the investigators will develop a clinicopathomic assay from biomarkers obtained from digital pathologies of resected whole-mount oral cavity and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC and OPSCC) specimens with the goal of administering personalized novel image-guided therapies immediately after primary surgical management in OCSCC and OPSCC patients. The primary aim is to determine the association between clinicopathomic biomarkers and LRR. The secondary aim is to develop a clinicopathomic risk score (assay) such that a decision-support tool can be used by physicians for measuring the benefit of additional therapies (i.e. conventional chemotherapy +/- radiation or administering dose-escalated chemoradiation) in the adjuvant setting to reduce LRR rates.
