Filter by:Preterm infants are at high-risk for the negative implications of both prolonged mechanical ventilation and extubation failure. Pre-extubation assessments of lung parenchyma and diaphragmatic function of these infants can be useful adjunctive tool for prediction of extubation readiness. The aim of this study is to assess the sensitivity and specificity of lung ultrasound and diaphragmatic function evaluation in prediction of extubation readiness in mechanically ventilated neonates born at < 28 weeks gestational age.
Scapula retraction exercises are often recommended as a part of the exercise programs. The primary aim of this study is to investigate the initial effect of the scapula retraction exercises on acromiohumeral distance (AHD) at varying shoulder abduction angles and to compare asymptomatic subjects. The secondary aim of this study is to investigate the effect of scapula retraction exercises on AHD values and symptoms (pain and disability) in patients with SPS.
Particulate matter exposure during smoke inhalation provokes inflammatory immune responses in people exposed to burning biomass including fire fighters and civilians. Persistent occupational exposure to particulate matter represents a unique hazard for firefighters, underpinning a burgeoning research area. This trial will evaluate the effects of sleep deprivation and circadian rhythm disruption on the inflammatory response to woodsmoke associated particulate matter exposure. Participants will undergo 2 experimental trials in a randomized cross-over design. Participants will have either an 8-hour sleep opportunity or a 4-hour sleep opportunity prior to reporting to lab for a 45 minute simulated firefighting trial (wood smoke associated particulate matter filtered to 2.5 um at a concentration of 250 ug/m^3, while exercising at a moderate intensity). The effects of sleep restriction and simulated firefighting will be measured.

Research based on some plants is more than centuries old and its main therapeutic objective is to stimulate the self-healing power of the body. Andrographolide was docked successfully in the binding site of SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. Computational approaches also predicts this molecule to have good solubility, pharmacodynamics property and target accuracy. This molecule also obeys Lipinski's rule, which makes it a promising compound to pursue further biochemical and cell based assays to explore its potential for use against COVID-19. A. Paniculata is a patented extract, standardized to Andrographolide, 14-deoxyandrographolide, and Neo-andrographolide. Maqui contains Maqui Berry Extract of Aristotelia Chilensis (10% Anthocyanidin, 8% Delphinidin) belonging to the family of Elaeocarpaceae, which has been known for its use in several conditions such as sore throat, fever and several other ailments. In the present study, the therapeutic potential of Andrographis Paniculata and Aristotelia chilensis as single ingredients as well as in combination will be evaluated in participants with common cold and COVID related symptoms. The products to be evaluated have been rigorously standardized and are available under the brand names of A. Paniculata and A. Chilensis. Literature indicates that both A. Paniculata and A.Chilensis are effective and safe in the treatment of typical cold-related symptoms in adults.
Low birth weight (LBW) infant (1800-2449 gram) will be given the new human milk fortifier (HMF) which contains protein, lipid, carbohydrate and micronutrients after discharge. Human Milk Fortifier or placebo (carbohydrate only with similar calorie content) will be provided until 3 months of age. The investigators want to evaluate if the addition of HMF to mother's milk while breastfeeding LBW infants after discharge influences growth and body composition up to 3 months of age.
The two-part phases will each have a unique patient population, The goal in this application is to see if that carotid bodies are "offline" is correct and to determine whether a cohort of SARS-Cov-2 patients can be identified who fit this profile and would be suitable for drug treatment. The testing will require one group of subjects to hold their breaths for a short period while the investigators monitor vital signs and blood O2 levels. A second group of "healthier" COVID subjects will be asked perform a walk-test inside their rooms for six minutes while vital signs are monitored as well as blood O2 levels. If the subjects are in the healthy control group, they will perform the walk test in a designated hallway at the medical center also while there vitals are being monitored. The goal, using a mild stimulus, is to determine whether respiration increases if blood O2 saturation is decreased. If it does not, that would indicate a failure of the carotid body oxygen sensing system.
This phase 2 trial examining the combination of ociperlimab plus tislelizumab plus cCRT is expected to provide valuable data to advance treatment options in the serious unmet medical need population of LS-SCLC patients. Immunotherapy combined with chemoradiotherapy may have a synergetic anti -cancer activities. The combination of anti-TIGIT antibody and anti-PD-1/L1 antibody may augment the immune effect with tolerable safety profile. The novel therapeutic strategy with dule immune therapy in combination with CRT is expected to provide valuable data to advance treatment options in the population of LS-SCLC patients.
