Filter by:Globally, neonatal mortality remains unacceptably high, with little change in the death rate in the first 28 days of life since 1990, despite reductions in under-5 mortality of up to 50% over the same period. In 2014, neonatal deaths accounted for 44% of all deaths in children under 5 with neonatal infection accounting for over a third of all deaths. Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a major cause of septicemia and meningitis in infants globally and a cause of severe adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes in up to 50% of meningitis survivors. It can also lead to sepsis in pregnant women. GBS acquisition occurs through vertical transmission in 15%-50% of infants born to a vaginally/rectally colonized mother. Maternal colonization is a prerequisite for early onset (EO) and a risk factor for late onset (LO) disease. Our proposal will provide these critical data in Uganda (a country with high neonatal disease burden) in a 12 month pilot study to determine: the burden of GBS disease in a cohort of mother/infant pairs and establish an active surveillance platform for monitoring of early and late onset neonatal infection in term and preterm infants in Uganda and compare this to the burden known for other African countries. This provides essential data on GBS disease outcomes from a high-HIV burden African cohort reflecting the usual standard of care in a low income, highly deprived urban environment. This pilot study will establish minimum disease estimates in the Ugandan cohort to determine the feasibility of a cohort study over three years to determine the level of antibody against GBS in cord blood from pregnancies where women are GBS colonized and non-colonized but whose infants do not develop GBS disease in the first three months of life and compare this to the level in the blood of infants who develop GBS disease. We will compare these results with those from other African countries such as South Africa to enable a robust estimate of potential sero-correlates of protection from natural infection against the most common GBS-disease-causing serotypes.
This study includes one type of product named C-CURVE which is a Stand-alone Cervical Interbody Cage. This product is available in two materials: PEEK and Titanium. The C-Curve Cervical Interbody Devices is one single implant used for insertion between two adjacent vertebrae (cervical spine). C-Curve has been designed to restore and/or maintain adequate interbody height, and thus help stabilize one or more cervical levels while fusion occurs. This system has also as objectives to increase of the quality of life, decrease patient's pain and decrease a potential dysphagia (clinical performances). This system must only be used in the cervical spine. This post-market clinical follow-up (PMCF) study aims to confirm the acceptable benefits/risk profile of the device for the patients and to fill essential requirements to maintain the CE mark through a clinical evaluation.
Inadequate dietary protein intake is well-known cause of hypoalbuminemia in dialysis population. Protein loss into dialysate and increased catabolic state due to uremic milieu or inflammation worsened hypoalbuminemia, hence high protein diet is recommended in patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). The recommendations from K/DOQI clinical practice guidelines for the amount of daily protein intake is based on expert opinion and the optimal daily protein intake in PD patients is not known. The investigators hypothesize that higher dietary protein intake has a greater beneficial effect on nutritional status in hypoalbuminemic PD patients. In particular, 1.5 g/kg protein intake provides a better beneficial effect than 1.2 g/kg protein intake.
The primary objective of this study is to confirm the safety and efficacy of the RenzanTM Peripheral Stent System when used for treatment of superficial femoral (SFA) and/or popliteal (POP) artery disease. This trial plans to include 135 patients in (up to) 10 locations around in Europe.

This is a prospective, multicenter, observational study of adult patients with a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), multiple myeloma (MM), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), or non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). This study will enroll up to 528 patients in up to 50 sites in the United States and collect data with regard to use of the clonoSEQ MRD assay in the management of lymphoid malignancies.
A study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of fenebrutinib on disability progression in adult participants with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS). All eligible participants will be randomized 1:1 to either daily oral fenebrutinib (and placebo) or intravenous (IV) ocrelizumab (and placebo) in a blinded fashion through an interactive voice or web-based response system (IxRS). Approximately 946 participants will be enrolled and will be recruited globally. Participants who discontinue study medication early or discontinue from the study will not be replaced. The Open-Label Extension (OLE) phase is contingent on a positive benefit-risk result in the Primary Analysis of the study.
160 subjects with autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (aPAP) will be randomized to receive once daily treatment with inhaled molgramostim or placebo for 48 weeks. Subjects completing the 48 week placebo-controlled period will receive open-label treatment with once daily inhaled molgramostim for 96 weeks.
The purpose of this study is to find out whether a drug called PDR001, combined with either trametinib or dabrafenib, is a safe and effective treatment for thyroid cancer.
This study will look at whether it is practical and safe to give Lutathera directly into an artery of the liver (hepatic intraarterial infusion). The researchers will compare the effects of hepatic intraarterial infusion in the liver with the effects of the standard approach (intravenous infusion in the arm). The researchers will also determine whether Lutathera is effective against participants' cancer.
