Phenotype/Genotype Correlation in a Family With Early Onset Osteoarthritis

This study will investigate the genes responsible for osteoarthritis. Individuals with osteoarthritis known or suspected to be caused by a gene mutation (change) may be eligible for this study. Family members may also participate. Patients will talk with investigators who will explain the study and its possible implications for the patient and family and answer questions. The patient's medical records will be reviewed, a personal and family history will be taken, and a physical examination will be done. Two procedures may be done including blood sampling (which will be used for DNA (genetic) studies) and X-rays (to define osteoarthritis grade). If no known mutations responsible for osteoarthritis will be detected, participating family members will be interviewed by telephone about their personal and family health history and will have a blood sample drawn for DNA testing, and X-rays.

Efficacy of Lower Tourniquet Pressure During Total Knee Arthroplasty

This study aims to determine whether the lower tourniquet pressure, which is set by adding 120mmHg (millimeter of mercury) on the systolic blood pressure just before tourniquet inflation, are efficient and safe during total knee arthroplasty, compared with the conventional tourniquet pressure: 150mmHg above the systolic blood pressure before tourniquet inflation.

Determination of Adipocytokine in Synovial Fluid of Osteoarthritis Patients

The purpose of this study is to determine the concentration of different adipocytokine (adiponectin, leptin, resistin, visfatin, osteopontin) and an inflammation classic markers as Interleukine 1 beta, tumor necrosis alfa, interleukine 6 and high sensibility reactive c protein in the synovial fluid of knee osteoarthritis patients, and compare with the inflammation detected with ultrasonography evaluation of the joint. In last years, some studies appeared focusing on the role of adipocytokines in osteoarthritis and they correlated adipocytokines with cartilage degradation and x-ray degree; in our study we will focused in the importance of adipocytokines in the inflammatory changes more than in joint destruction.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Enhanced With PRP Versus PRP In OA Knee

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common joint diseases.This disease commonly develops in the weight bearing joints of the lower limbs, such as the knee and hip joints. Osteoarthritis is considered a chronic degenerative disorder that is characterized by a loss of articular cartilage. Pathogenesis can involve all of the major articular tissues including cartilage, synovial membrane, subchondral bone and other connective tissues such as ligaments and tendons3. There is no effective therapy available today that alters the pathobiologic course of the disease.In view of vast role of platelet derived growth factors, mesenchymal cells and its safety, this prospective clinical trial is designed in an attempt to compare the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells enhanced with platelet rich plasma in early stages of knee osteoarthritis.
