The Use of Steovess/Binosto After Denosumab Discontinuation to Prevent Increase in Bone Turnover

Dynamic 4DCT to Examine Wrist Carpal Mechanics

Osteoarthritis can develop after an injury like a broken bone. Problems with how the bones line up can lead to abnormal loading which will destroy the cartilage that covers and protects the bones. Once this happens, patients experience substantial pain and disability. Researchers and doctors use planar x-rays to evaluate joints; but these are not always precise and are limited to two dimensions. Three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) can be used to look at the joints of the wrist in three dimensions, but is limited to static frames. Symptoms arising from joint instability often occur when the wrist is moving and when it is performing a functional task (opening a jar). Four dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) can detect dynamics changes in the small structures of the wrist with high temporal and spatial resolution. This novel imaging techniques provides a movie of bones in the wrist, in 3D, while in the scanner. In this proposal, the investigator's will use 4DCT and look at how joint alignment of the distal radius effects the joints in the wrist, and investigate how it relates to patient's function, description of pain and the presence of Osteoarthritis 10 years following fracture. This imaging will drive safer clinical research and practice and will develop tools that predict the risk of developing arthritis that will help doctors determine when surgery is necessary to prevent arthritis of the hand and wrist, and pain and disability.

Dry Needling Versus Stretching for Muscle Extensibility

Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most prevalent chronic disease in the world. Currently several authors have shown the presence of active myofascial trigger points (MTrP) in the muscles surrounding the hip joint that reproduce the symptoms of the patients with hip OA. Despite of the beneficial effects that have shown may conservative non-pharmacological treatments, there is a lack of studies evaluating the effects of the conservative treatments on muscle extensibility. According to the new paradigm about the presence of MTrPs, the investigators decided to conduct a randomized clinical trial to compare the effects of DN intervention and stretching protocol on muscle extensibility in patients with hip OA.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a joint disorder caused by wear and tear on the joint over time; as a result, the protective cartilage of the bone in the joint gradually wears down. The lifetime risk of developing OA in the knee, with symptoms such as pain, aching, and stiffness, is 40% in men and 47% in women. It is estimated that approximately 19% of Americans aged 45 and older are affected by knee OA. Knee OA accounts for 83% of the global burden caused by all OA types. Pain and stiffness in knees, a large weight-bearing joint, often leads to disability, which interferes with daily life activities and demands expensive medical treatments or care. Due to the limitations of current OA treatment methods, there is an increasing demand for effective and safer alternatives, such as natural health products with pain-relieving potential. The investigational product, JointAlive™, is a supplement designed to alleviate knee OA symptoms and to improve knee functionality. The present study will investigate the safety and efficacy of JointAlive™ in reducing knee OA symptoms and improving joint functionality in an otherwise healthy adult population with mild to moderate knee OA.
