The Whole Body Vibration Training for Total Knee arthroplasty-the Improvement of the Lower Limb

Knee Osteoarthritis in elder cause pain and decrease their functional activity. After conservative rehabilitation failure, they might receive total knee arthroplasty. The post-operation rehabilitation could improve range of motion and might help them to back activities of daily Living earlier. However, the pain and swelling after the operation of total knee arthroplasty cause the limitation of early mobilization, cause ROM limitation, muscle strength decrease, functional activity decrease, and impaired activity of daily life. In recent studies, the effect of whole body vibration included improving pain, swelling, muscle strength, balance, and functional activity, increasing metabolic rate and decreasing lactate accumulation. the investigators expect the early intervention of whole body vibration and traditional physical therapy on the post-TKA patient could improve ROM, decrease swelling, increased muscle strength, functional activity, and balance as compared with traditional physical therapy.

How TKA Implants Affect Muscle Quality and Activity During Daily Living and Immunological Response

This study compares two total knee replacement implants to asses muscle function and quality, and the immune response to the implants. 30 patients will receive the Smith and Nephew Journey II implant, while 30 patients will receive the Zimmer NexGen LPS-flex implant. 15 healthy controls will also be recruited and compared.

Knee Kinematics for Subjects With Zimmer-Biomet Posterior Cruciate Retaining or Posterior Stabilizing Total Knee Arthroplasty

25 subjects implanted with a Zimmer-Biomet Posterior Cruciate Retaining (PCR) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and 25 subjects implanted with a Zimmer-Biomet Posterior Stabilizing (PS) TKA will be asked to perform stepping up and deep knee bend activities while under fluoroscopic surveillance (x-ray video). The movements between the two different types of TKAs will be compared.

Mulligan Manual Therapy and Trunk Stabilization Exercises Versus Isometric Knee Strengthening on Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee joint arthritis posses a serious health problem and caring for an individual with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) produces a great burden on society. Knee joint pain is associated with physical activity while performing various activities of daily living (ADL) in patients with early and severe osteoarthritis (OA). In addition to knee pain, physical function or daily activity is strongly influenced by the severity of Osteoarthritis of the knee. Mulligan joint mobilization with movement provides evident effects on decreasing the pain and restoring the joint biomechanics. Trunk stabilization exercise will improve the stability of trunk which distributes the weight of body evenly on both feets. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of mulligan joint mobilization and trunk stabilization exercise on pain, disability and submaximal exercise performance in KOA.

RCT: Mako Medial Unicondylar Knee Arthroplasty vs Oxford Unicondylar Knee Arthroplasty

The overall aim of this prospective, randomised, single-blinded, controlled trial is to compare clinical outcomes and accuracy of implant positioning in Mako robotic UKA versus jig-based Oxford UKA with navigation control. Patients receiving the Mako robotic UKA (Stryker Ltd) will form the investigation group and those undergoing the jig-based Oxford UKA (Zimmer-Biomet Ltd) with navigation control will form the control group. The primary objective in this study is to compare accuracy of component positioning as assessed by postoperative low radiation dose CT scan between conventional Jig-based Oxford UKA with navigation control and Mako robotic UKA.

Synovial Fluid Biomarkers Pre and Post Hymovis Knee Injection

This NJH Investigator Initiated Study funded by Fidia will prospectively perform 2 ultrasound (US) guided knee aspirations in patients with knee osteoarthritis using a pneumatic compressive device (KneeTap ™) at baseline and at 3 months following 2 Hymovis® injections. Synovial fluid catabolic and anabolic proteins will be compared to those values in the peripheral blood and correlated with clinical outcome measurements at 3 ,6 and 12 months compared to baseline values; WOMAC, SF 36, visual analog pain scale, 6 minute walking distance and SF volumes quantitated by US.
