Filter by:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a peer-led, brief, behavioral intervention to improve adherence to medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) among low-income, minority individuals living with opioid use disorder (OUD) in Baltimore, Maryland. The intervention is based on behavioral activation (BA) and is specifically designed to be implemented by a trained peer recovery specialist. In this Type 1 hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomized controlled trial (RCT), we will evaluate the effectiveness and implementation of Peer Activate vs. treatment as usual (TAU) over six months.
Contingency management (CM) is a behavioral intervention that involves incentivizing participants for target behaviors in a clinical setting. When applied to the treatment of substance use disorders, it has demonstrated efficacy in reducing the number of urine toxicology screens positive for illicit substances and increased engagement in treatment programs. However, there is a need to translate CM treatment to primary care settings. This study will implement and assess a CM program for patients with opioid use disorder, with or without comorbid stimulant use disorder, initiating outpatient addiction medicine services at a family medicine residency clinic. Eligible patients will earn monetary incentives for attending addiction medicine appointments and abstaining from substances during outpatient treatment. Data gathered from this pilot program will be used to improve patient outcomes, treatment, and retention for persons receiving medications for opioid use disorder (MOUDs) in a primary care setting.
This is a 5-year Hybrid Type 1 Effectiveness-Implementation Randomized Control Trial (RCT) that compares two models of linking and retaining individuals recently released from justice involvement to the continuum of community-based HIV prevention and treatment, HCV treatment, STI treatment, and opioid use disorder (OUD) prevention and treatment, medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) service cascades of care.
The goal of the current study is to evaluate the bioavailability of CBD in normal healthy Individuals. This is an open cross-overdesign study in healthy individuals to assess the safety and pharmacokinetic (PK) effects of cannabidiol.
The overall purpose of this pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of values-based behavioral activation (BA) as an adjunct intervention for patients receiving medications for opioid use disorder (OUD) in primary care. Researcher will evaluate the following aims: 1) examine the feasibility of BA for OUD in primary care, 2) examine whether the BA intervention and study requirements are acceptable to participants, and 3) determine the psychometric properties of the outcome measures in people with OUD. Participants will complete 4-6 brief counseling sessions over the course of 12 weeks. During the first session, participants will discuss values and recovery outcomes important to them. Next, they will set 2-3 personal goals to work on before the next BA session. At the follow-up sessions, participants will update the counselor on progress made or challenges experienced. Personal values will be reviewed and participant goals updated. Study measures (surveys and urine drug tests) will be completed at the start, partway through, and at the end of the intervention.
The Remote Methadone Ingestion Surveillance Trial (RMIST) will explore a potential method of methadone ingestion surveillance that may mitigate patient safety risks of take-home methadone treatment regimens while minimizing the risk of diversion and evaluating the acceptability and feasibility of these monitoring methods. The method utilizes an innovative existing technology.
Previously, the study team evaluated the implementation and effectiveness of the Johns Hopkins Perioperative Pain Program (PPP), which coordinates continuum of care for surgical patients on chronic opioid therapy throughout the perioperative period. Based on the findings of that project, the study team developed an educational intervention intended to improve patient engagement in perioperative pain management. In this project, the study team will formally implement a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention developed.
The aims of the current study are to: Aim 1. Develop and refine a novel intervention protocol for individuals receiving medication treatment for opioid use disorder that assertively links them to recovery community centers; Aim 2. Determine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of assertive linkage to recovery community centers relative to a matched control condition, via a pilot randomized controlled trial; Aim 3. Explain quantitative findings by gaining an in-depth understanding of the intervention's feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy via qualitative interviews.
This study will investigate whether psilocybin administered under supportive conditions can reduce illicit opioid use and improve quality of life in individuals with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) in Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) who are concurrently using other opioids illicitly.
This is an open-label study of the use of MDMA Assisted Therapy for postpartum people with co-occurring Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). The study protocol has been adapted from the Phase 3 studies sponsored by the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) for PTSD. Due to the high rate of concurrence of PTSD and OUD, people with OUD may experience great benefit from the treatment of their PTSD with MDMA-assisted therapy based on the phase 2 and 3 studies for PTSD. Use of MDMA-assisted therapy in this population has the potential to be of benefit for their OUD and maternal- infant attachment. This study will serve to explore the feasibility and safety of offering MDMA-assisted therapy for treatment of PTSD in postpartum people with opioid use disorder. The CAPs 5 (PTSD) is the primary outcome, the Timeline Follow-Back (TLFB) for opioid use is the secondary outcome and other assessments of opioid use disorder, effects on maternal-infant attachment, social connectedness and other mental health outcomes are exploratory. The study will be conducted at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center located in Albuquerque New Mexico. In addition to northern New Mexico being an epicenter of the current opioid use disorder epidemic in the United States there is a long-standing history of multigenerational use of illicit opioids in many communities of northern New Mexico. There are high rates of opioid use disorder on pregnancy and accompanying Neonatal Opioid Use Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS) in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and surrounding communities.
