A Study of CAP-1002 in Ambulatory and Non-Ambulatory Patients With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

HOPE-2 is a double-blind clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of a cell therapy called CAP-1002 in study participants with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Non-ambulatory and ambulatory boys and young men who meet eligibility criteria will be randomly assigned to receive either CAP-1002 or placebo every 3 months for a total of 4 doses during a 12-month period.

Comparison of Two Methods of Adjusting the Mechanical In-Exsuflation in Neuromuscular Adult Patients

In the context of neuromuscular diseases, the weakness of the respiratory muscles makes difficult to manage periods of congestion due to a less effective cough. It exposes the patient to bronchial superinfections that may require hospitalization. The use of cough assistance is therefore essential in order to avoid acute situations such as bronchial superinfections. Mechanical Insuflation-Exsufflation (MI / E) is an instrumental technique commonly used by therapists in a hospital or at the patient's home in order to facilitate the airway mucus clearance. The choice of the pressure settings of the IM / E is a decisive point because it conditions the effectiveness of the generated cough. It'is important to take into account the presence of any collapse in the use of IM / E in order to ensure the most effective cough given by the patient. Actually, except the common impression of the physiotherapist and the patient, there is no "simple" way for detecting and objectifying the threshold of collapse in the upper airways. The aim of this study is to compare two modalities for the regulation of the level of the MI-E exsufflation, taking into account the presence of a collapse: a subjective "S" adjustment based on the clinical judgment of the therapist and the patient and an objective "O" adjustment based on the flow-volume curve generated during the cough.

The Hypercapnia Telemedicine Outreach Program (E-TOUCH Study) aims to utilize telemedicine technology, as well as emergency medical services (EMS) home visits to address the problem with poor follow-up and compliance among Einstein's hypercapnic patients. The hypothesis is that reaching out to the subjects' homes will allow more consistent healthcare delivery, increase healthcare efficiency and compliance with therapy, and overall decrease acute decompensated states / hypercapnic respiratory failure, decreasing ED visits and hospitalization.

Treatment Effect of Edaravone in Patients With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease that causes the death of 30,000 affected individual every year. Complex nature and unknown pathogenesis of this disease are 2 major reasons for failure of therapeutic interventions. Edaravone is a free radical scavenger that slows down functional decline and prevents from disease progression in ALS patients. FDA newly approved this drug in these patients (2017/5/5). In this study, investigators aimed to assess the treatment effect of this newly approved drug in patients with ALS in a representative Iranian population.
