Sociodemographic Factors and Criminal Behaviour Preceding Neurodegenerative Disease - Retrospective Register Study

DEGERWD
Start date: January 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

In this retrospective register study, clinically classified individuals with neurodegenerative disease from the years 2010-2021 will be verified from the clinical records from KUH and Oulu University Hospital (OUH). Based on the Finnish social security number, these individuals will be linked to the the national registers of Statistics Finland and Finnish Social and Health Data Permit Authority Findata including incomes, sociodemographic factors, education, occupation, criminal records as well as to the national registers including the bought pharmaceuticals, comorbidities and causes of death. For each study case, 10 randomly selected control cases, matched with age, sex and geographical area, will be used. The aim of the study is to examine: - 1) The prevalence of criminal and other disruptive behaviour in groups of different neurodegenerative diseases prior to and after the diagnosis - 2) Changes in employment, residency, income, and marital status prior to and after the neurodegenerative disease diagnosis - 3) Hospital diagnoses and reimbursable drugs prior to and after the diagnosis - 4) Causes of death in patients with neurodegenerative disease to study excess mortality of the patients

Home-Based Exercise in Primary Progressive Aphasia (HEPPA)

HEPPA
Start date: April 5, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This pilot study aims to evaluate the feasibility of a novel home-based multicomponent exercise program in adults clinically diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia

Statins in Reducing Events in the Elderly Mind (STAREE-Mind) Imaging Substudy

STAREE-Mind
Start date: September 19, 2019
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

The STAREE-Mind imaging sub-study will examine the effect of statin treatment over a 4-year period, compared with placebo, on markers of brain health.

NCT ID: NCT05522387 Active, not recruiting - Alzheimer Disease Clinical Trials

An Open-Label Extension of XPro1595 in Patients With Alzheimer's Disease

Start date: February 21, 2023
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this Phase 2 Open Label study is to evaluate long-term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of XPro1595 on measures of cognition, function and brain quality in individuals with Alzheimer's Disease.

NCT ID: NCT05490576 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Cognitive Impairment

Tau And Connectomics In TES Study

TACIT
Start date: February 3, 2023
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

This pilot study aims to assess if participants that meet the criteria for a TES diagnosis have a specific tau deposition profile on PET scanning using the PET tau binding ligand - [18F] PI-2620. It is hoped this study will highlight potential diagnostic tests of TES diagnosis, the in-life correlate of CTE.

HIFT in People With Parkinson's Disease

Start date: March 17, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive and chronic neurodegenerative disease, which presents signs and symptoms both motor (impaired gait, posture, balance, etc.) and cognitive (memory loss, dementia, etc.), all of which cause disability and assuming a high economic cost. Currently, there are already certain authors who have shown how a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) protocol produces improvements in cognitive and physical performance in healthy adults and in people with multiple sclerosis. However, another modality has been created, such as high-intensity functional training (HIFT), which can benefit different populations, both healthy and pathological, due to the multimodal nature of the exercises. These are prescribed knowing the target group and involve the whole body using universal motor recruitment patterns in multiple planes of movement such as squats. The main hypothesis of the study is that high-intensity functional training (HIFT), at a motor and cognitive level, provides a greater benefit than conventional programs of strength, balance and cognition, on the functionality and cognitive capacity of people with Parkinson's disease.

NCT ID: NCT05479981 Active, not recruiting - Clinical trials for Nervous System Diseases

Extension of AOC 1001-CS1 (MARINA) Study in Adult Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1 (DM1) Patients

MARINA-OLE
Start date: August 4, 2022
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

AOC 1001-CS2 (MARINA-OLE) is a Phase 2 extension of the AOC 1001-CS1 (MARINA) study to evaluate the safety, tolerability, efficacy, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of multiple-doses of AOC 1001 Administered Intravenously to Adult Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1 (DM1) patients

Novel Diagnostic and Disease Stage Biomarkers in AD

TRACK-AD
Start date: January 1, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study will investigate the efficacy of novel biomarkers, namely blood-based biomarkers, pupillometry and actigraphy to track and predict progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Furthermore, the study will investigate the diagnostic value of pupillometry and actigraphy for AD.

NCT ID: NCT04937452 Active, not recruiting - Dementia Clinical Trials

Dopaminergic Therapy for Frontotemporal Dementia Patients

Start date: June 3, 2021
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This is a phase IIa 24-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The study is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Rotigotine (RTG) transdermal administration at the dosage of 4 mg or 6 mg per day versus Placebo (PLC) in newly diagnosed behavioural Frontotemporal Dementia (bvFTD) patients. 75 patients with a diagnosis of probable bvFTD will be randomly allocated to the 3 treatment arms (RTG 4mg/day, RTG 6mg/day or PLC), with 25 patients per group. Clinical and neurophysiological measurements and brain metabolism via FDG-PET will be collected before and after drug administration.

NCT ID: NCT04882020 Active, not recruiting - Inflammation Clinical Trials

Inflammation and Neurocognitive Damage Markers in Elderly People With Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Start date: August 21, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The aging process tends to promote an overall increase in inflammation compromising the immunologic system regulation, sleep/wakefulness pattern, and neurocognitive performance. In elders, there is an increase in repetitive arousals during sleep, secondary to breathing interruption by pharynx collapse, generating a transient reduction in oxygen delivery to the brain known as obstructive sleep apnea. This lack in oxygen supply results in an inflammatory process producing brain damage. Some substances present in the blood seem to be associated to neurocognitive damage, like S100β protein, cortisol, interleukin 1-β,6 and TNF-α. In the other way, a substance called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) enhances cognitive function, and memory consolidation improvement.
