Filter by:To evaluate the effects of patupilone on the pharmacokinetics of warfarin in patients with advanced malignancies.
This 2 arm study will assess the efficacy and safety of two systemic treatments including Avastin in patients with previously-untreated progressive locally advanced/metastatic well-differentiated digestive endocrine tumors. Patients with duodeno-pancreatic tumors (arm 1) will be treated with 5FU/streptozotocin iv (5FU 400mg/m2/d D1 to D5;streptozotocin 500mg/m2/d/iv D1 to D5;D1=D42) every 6 weeks, plus Avastin 7.5mg/kg iv every 3 weeks. Patients with gastrointestinal tract tumors (arm 2) will be treated with Xeloda 1000mg/m2 po bid D1 to D14 plus Avastin 7.5mg/kg iv D1=D21 every 3 weeks. The patients will be treated with chemotherapy for a minimum of 6 months, unless there is tumor progression and/or unacceptable toxicity. The anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity, and the target sample size is <100 individuals.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the progression free survival of capecitabine (Xeloda), oxaliplatin and bevacizumab (Avastin) in previously untreated metastatic esophagogastric adenocarcinomas.
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and tolerability of escalating doses of SNS-032, given in 3 weekly administrations per cycle and to identify a recommended Phase 2 dose.
Background: - Vandetanib is a drug that attacks a group of proteins on the surface of many cells, especially blood vessel cells and tumor cells. - Tumors require the development of new blood vessels in order to grow and spread. - In laboratory experiments, vandetanib slowed the growth of certain tumors and regulated their blood vessel growth. - In early clinical trials, some patients' tumors did not grow for a period of time while they were receiving vandetanib. Objectives: - To determine whether vandetanib can cause tumors to shrink or stabilize in some patients with ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer or primary peritoneal cancer. - To determine, by tumor biopsy, if features of the tumor change with vandetanib treatment may predict if the tumor will likely respond to vandetanib. Eligibility: - Women 18 years of age and older with ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer that does not respond to standard treatment. Design: - Patients take vandetanib daily, by mouth in 28-day cycles until their disease worsens or they develop unacceptable side effects. - Tumor biopsies (surgical removal of a sample of tumor tissue) are done before starting vandetanib treatment and after 6 weeks of treatment. - Patients are followed in the clinic every 4 weeks during treatment for a physical examination, blood tests, and review of laboratory studies and side effects. - Patients have a computed tomography (CT) scan every 8 weeks to monitor tumor growth and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before starting vandetanib treatment, on the third day after taking vandetanib and 6 weeks into treatment. - Patients quality of life is assessed with regularly scheduled questionnaires.

Background: - Cancer of the cervix (bottom third of the uterus, or womb) can be prevented by regular Pap tests (also called Pap smears), which check for changes in the cells of the cervix. Because many women in the United States have regular Pap smears, cervical cancer is not common in this country. However, the disease is common among women in the Mississippi Delta because of poor participation in screening programs. - The major causes of cervical cancer are persistent human papillomaviruses (HPV) infection by cancer-associated HPV types and lack of screening. These viruses cause an infection that often goes away by itself, but if it does not go away, over a long time lead to cervical cancer. HPV causes cervical abnormalities, which are detected by Pap smears and then treated. Objectives: -To determine whether an at-home self-collection method for obtaining cells from the cervix can be a simple, safe and inexpensive way to screen for cervical cancer for women who don t go to the health clinic regularly. Eligibility: - Women who reside in the counties of Leflore, Sunflower, Washington or Tallahatchie, Mississippi. - Women between 26 and 65 years of age who are not pregnant and who have not had a hysterectomy. Design: Screening study participants undergo the following: - The doctor takes a cervical sample using the same self-collection device that women will use at home to self-collect. - Pelvic examination and Pap test. For this test, the woman lies on an exam table and the doctor inserts an instrument called a speculum into the vagina, opening it to see the cervix. A special brush is used to take a few cells from the cervix. The cells are placed on a glass slide and sent to a lab for examination. - Cervical cell specimen collection using an at-home self-collection kit that participants will use at home after 2 weeks - At-home self-collection by participant after 2 weeks. - Referral to a doctor for follow-up care, if needed. - Colposcopy (see below) in all women with a Pap test that is abnormal or positive for HPV and for some women with a normal smear. Colposcopy study participants undergo the following: - The doctor takes a cervical sample using the same self-collection device that women will use at home to self-collect. - Colposcopy, an exam in which the doctor examines the cervix using a light and looks through a magnifying device to see if there is any abnormal tissue on the cervix. During this exam, the doctor may remove a small sample of tissue to diagnose any abnormality. Participants also have a sample collected using the self-collection kit. - At-home cervical sample collection by participant after 2 weeks. - Notification if further medical care is required and treatment if the biopsy looks abnormal.

The purpose of the study is to assess the overall survival and progression free survival of patients treated with Litx™ + chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone in the treatment of Colorectal Cancer with recurrent liver metastases, and to demonstrate the safety of Litx™ therapy. Litx™ consists of a light-activated drug, talaporfin sodium (LS11, Light Sciences Oncology, Bellevue, Washington), and a light generating device, composed of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), that is energized by a power controller and percutaneously placed in the target tumor tissue inside the body.
