Filter by:The present study is designed to determine the mutational status of markers (TET2 and PLCb2, cytogenetic aberrations) together with methylation status of the above genes using bone marrow and matched buccal cell samples from MDS patients who necessitate to start a treatment (i.e. EPO, Lenalidomide, Azacytidine). All patients included in the study will be followed for at least 2 years.
The purpose of this study is to assess the bioequivalence of subcutaneous Vidaza® and subcutaneous Luitpold Azacitidine pharmacokinetics and to assess the comparative safety of subcutaneous Vidaza® versus subcutaneous Luitpold Azacitidine.
The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if the combination of clofarabine, idarubicin, and cytarabine, or the combination of fludarabine, idarubicin, and cytarabine can help control Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). The safety of these study drug combinations will also be studied.
RATIONALE: Caspofungin acetate may be effective in treating fungal infections in patients with acute myeloid leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome who are receiving treatment for their cancer. It is not yet known whether caspofungin acetate is more effective when treatment starts after development of a fever or after the infection is shown in laboratory test, chest x-ray, or CT scan. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying the best time to start caspofungin acetate therapy in treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome that is newly diagnosed or in first relapse.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of eltrombopag in people who have myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with thrombocytopenia who have progressed or are resistant to decitabine or azacitidine. (These are the only 2 drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [FDA] which can improve platelet counts). The investigators (the study doctor, study staff, and sponsor) want to find out what effects, good or bad, eltrombopag (study drug) may have on people with low platelet counts due to MDS. The investigators will also be testing how well eltrombopag may work at different doses in these diseases.
Brief Scientific Rationale: Decitabine has been shown to be effective for treatment of MDS and associated with very limited extramedullary toxicity at the lower doses. Furthermore, the hypomethylating effects of decitabine require an extended period of therapy and are likely to be more beneficial in the setting of a minimal residual disease after transplantation. The drug might exert a cytoreductive effect on the MDS clone, but ex vivo expansion strategy using decitabine and HDAC inhibitor provides a potential to expand the number of hematopoietic stem cells. There are lots of evidence which showed the the drug have immunostimulatory effects and can be used to enhance graft-versus leukemia effects. And also, some investigator suggested that decitabine could induce FOXP3 expression, promoting the conversion of naïve T cells to Tregs which are known to suppress GVHD while maintaining GVL effect in allo-SCT setting. As such, decitabine is an ideal agent to be investigated in the post-transplant setting. The investigators hypothesized that post-transplant maintenance therapy with decitabine may reduce relapse rate, which may maximize the beneficial effects from reduced TRM of ATG-containing FB4 or FB2 conditioning regimen in higher-risk MDS or AML evolving from MDS patients.
RATIONALE: Deferasirox may remove excess iron from the body caused by blood transfusions. PURPOSE: This clinical trial studies deferasirox in treating iron overload caused by blood transfusions in patients with hematologic malignancies.
Allogeneic transplant from a matched sibling for the treatment of a variety of illnesses including bone marrow failure states, leukemias, myelodysplastic or myeloproliferative syndromes, lymphoma, or myeloma using a nonmyeloablative preparative regimen.
The goal of this clinical research study is to learn if omacetaxine given with cytarabine can help to control the disease in patients with AML or high-risk MDS. The safety of the study drugs will also be studied.
Phase 1-2 dose escalation randomized study in patients with intermediate or high risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) or acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). The Dose Escalation Segment will evaluate the biological activity, preliminary safety and efficacy of SGI-110 with two dosing schedules in MDS and AML patients while the Dose Expansion Segment will further evaluate safety and efficacy at the biological effective dose (BED) or maximum tolerated dose (MTD)as defined in the Dose Escalation Segment.
