This study aims to provide preventative intervention to 60 women who are at risk of common mental disorders in Hong Kong.
The study compares the effects of two add-on interventions in primary care rehabilitation, on work ability and psychological health, in workers with common mental disorders. One intervention consists of a person-centered plan using work-directed treatment modules of occupational therapy and physical therapy, during 8 weeks. The other intervention consists of supported physical activity during 8 weeks. The primary outcome is work ability, measured by the work ability index and days on sick leave.
The Researchers are trying to learn more about how individuals break down and process medications based on their genes. The Researchers want to find out whether subjects will have fewer side effects if they take different medications based on their pharmacogenomics profile.
Individual placement support (IPS) is an evidence-based supported employment model for people with severe mental illness, designed to achieve employment in mainstream competitive jobs, either part-time or full-time. The aim of this study is to assess the (i) effectiveness of embedding the (IPS)/Peer Support intervention as part of the primary care centre in securing employment of adults living in the downtown eastside in comparison to the usual treatment WorkBC (control group). (ii) effectiveness of IPS/Peer Support versus the usual treatment (WorkBC) in improving mental illness, quality of life and personal recovery through participation in employment.
The objective of this project is to study the influence of mindfulness meditation on psychological health (stress level, affects, emotions) and physical health parameters (rate of inflammatory markers in the blood, activity of white blood cells involved in immuno-inflammation) in caregivers of people with psychiatric disorders. This study will provide the objective scientific data required for the development of mindfulness meditation programs for psychiatric caregivers. 80 participants will be randomly assigned to one of the following two groups: - 40 participants in the "Mindfulness" group who will attend mindfulness meditation sessions in addition to their standard follow-up - 40 participants in the "Control" group who will have a standard follow-up The duration of participation is 12 months and includes 3 visits and 8 mindfulness-based meditation sessions for the "Mindfulness" group.
The proposed project aims to establish the feasibility and tolerability of delivering repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulant (rTMS) combined with computerized cognitive training in patients with Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective Disorder and cognitive difficulties. The investigators will conduct a 2 week randomized controlled trial study evaluating computerized cognitive training combined with either active or sham rTMS on cognitive and functional outcomes in adults with Schizophrenia or Schizoaffective Disorder.
The aim of this randomized, controlled trial is to study the effectiveness of a potential new form of pre-arrest jail diversion for people with serious mental illnesses: the Police-Mental Health Linkage System. In the case of an encounter with a police officer, for half of the participants, during the background check, a message will notify the officer that the subject has mental health considerations. The notice contains a phone number of a provider working at the mental health clinic where the subject is receiving services, who can provide telephonic support to the officer. For the other half of participants, the message will not appear to the officers in the case of an encounter.
Investigators propose to determine whether knowing details about how a person's genes affect the way medicines work in the brain and body will help doctors pick more effective or safer medicine for that person. Target symptoms are restlessness, agitation, depression and related problems common in people with memory loss and dementia.
The objective of the study is to examine the efficacy of Protac Ball BlanketsTM (PBB) and specifically if the PBB will extend the total sleep time of patients with insomnia due to depression in two psychiatric outpatient clinics at Aarhus University Hospital and Odense University Hospital. Furthermore, it will be examined whether the PBB will reduce the sleep onset latency, number of awakenings, wake after sleep onset, need for sedatives and hypnotics, the self reported symptoms of depression and anxiety and improve the quality of sleep. 45 patients with depression and insomnia who receive outpatient treatment will be included in this study. The study is a randomized crossover trial. The data collection period lasts four weeks. Data will be collected using actigraphy, sleep diaries and questionnaires.
