A Longitudinal Study to Identify Mechanisms of Menopause on Cardiovascular Disease Risk

With the cessation of estrogen production at menopause, the risk of cardiovascular disease like arthrosclerosis, myocardial infarction and stroke increases dramatically. Physical activity is the single most powerful "drug" for maintaining and improving cardiovascular health, but recent data suggest that the positive effect of physical activity is lost at menopause. In this project the investigators will follow a cohort of 200 women from before the women enter menopause and until at least 10 years past menopause. By advanced invasive methodologies the investigators will monitor the changes that occur in the blood vessels of the circulation, the heart and the brain and combine this with microRNA sequencing of blood and tissue samples.

Regulation of sexual functions without hormonal support in order to correct the sexual dysfunctions in women with the estrogen hormone lost in the menopausal process. Recently, the reaction to hormonal treatments and the fact that patients with a family history of breast cancer or gynecological cancer cannot receive hormonal treatment have been the reason for applying to alternative treatments. Lubricant treatments are among the treatments that patients have compliance problems in the long term and avoid due to the difficulty of application. Correcting female sexual dysfunctions and post-menopausal women's right to want to feel sexually healthy are the most natural rights. Because sexual dysfunctions cause physiological and psychological problems in women. Thanks to the laser treatment, it is aimed to eliminate the atrophy and sexual dysfunctions of women, thanks to the application of approximately 2 sessions without the need for long-term medication.

Symptom Monitoring and Menopausal Symptoms

A recent systematic review suggested that symptom monitoring can result in reductions in menopausal symptoms and improvements in health-related behaviours. To date, no studies have experimentally investigated whether symptom monitoring could be beneficial as an intervention for menopausal women. One hundred menopausal women were randomised into either a Monitoring-intervention or Control group. A mixed between/ within design was employed, with group membership (i.e., Monitoring-intervention or Control) as the between-subjects component, and time (i.e., baseline and 2-weeks follow-up) as the within-subjects component. Dependent variables included symptom reductions and emotional reactions. Secondary outcomes included help-seeking, communication, medical decision-making, health awareness, self-efficacy, and health anxiety.

Depression is a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), and this comorbidity contributes significantly to the morbidity and mortality of women. The menopausal transition or perimenopause is a period of vulnerability for both depression and CVD, making it a key time to study this critical public health issue. This research will preliminarily explore whether disruption in two novel stress pathways 1) the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and autonomic nervous system (ANS) and their relationship may underlie the link between these illnesses. Findings will provide important insight into potential mechanisms by which depression during perimenopause may increase risk for CVD in midlife women, which will inform potential risk reduction and treatment strategies that can improve health outcomes in this population.
