Filter by:Severe mental illness (SMI) refers to the most burdensome psychiatric conditions. The need to pre-empt the onset of SMI is pressing because once SMI develops, quality of life is poor and available treatments have limited efficacy. Most risk factors for SMI are either unchangeable (e.g., genetics) or difficult to alter (e.g., low socio-economic status). In contrast, cannabis use is one specific risk factor that could be avoided. Certain individuals are more vulnerable to the harmful effects of cannabis. Genetic factors can help us identify these high-risk individuals. One in three individuals are carriers of a higher-risk genetic variant, and cannabis users with this genotype are at up to 7-fold increased risk of developing schizophrenia. In our study, genetic counselling will be provided to participants by a board-certified genetic counsellor. During the genetic counselling session, participants will have the option to receive their genotype. Participants will be counselled regarding their individualized risk of developing and of not developing SMI based on family history, whether or not they choose to use cannabis, and genotype (if the participants accept the genetic test results). The investigators hypothesize that this intervention will reduce exposure to cannabis compared to the youth who are not offered the intervention.
Randomized, Double-Blind, Active-Controlled Study of AXS-05 for MDD.
This is a short-term longitudinal study of psychotherapy process. Participants will be treated with 8 sessions of psychotherapy over the course of 8 to 12 weeks.
A randomized controlled trial comparing pharmacogenomic guided versus standard pharmacist care to optimize antidepressant drug therapy. This study evaluates the effectiveness of pharmacists utilizing pharmacogenomic testing in the community pharmacy setting to help patients find the most appropriate drug therapy option(s) and minimize the risk of side effects in collaboration with prescribing physicians.
This study will enroll participants who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and are experiencing symptoms of depression. This study will look at an anti-depressant medication called vortioxetine (Trintellix). Vortioxetine is an oral medication (pill) that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat depression in adults. The purpose of this study is to look at what effects (if any) vortioxetine may have on symptoms of depression in patients with type 2 diabetes. This study will also look at what effects (if any) vortioxetine has on blood sugar, and how vortioxetine may improve the way our brains are able to adapt and respond to stress.
This is a feasibility study and the goal of this project is to evaluate whether peak ACC GABA and glutamate, quantified as a CSF-corrected absolute concentration percent change from baseline, is associated with clinical remission, Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) total score of <10, to the anti-glutamatergic antidepressant ketamine. As MRS is expensive, we also aim to study a correlation between change in peripheral metabolites (GABA and glutamate) and central GABA and glutamate levels.
This study evaluates the efficacy of 5Hz repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) over Left Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex and Dorsomedial Prefrontal Cortex on Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of levomilnacipran compared with placebo in pediatric outpatients (7-17 years) with major depressive disorder (MDD).
This is an open label pilot feasibility study that will recruit 15 participants. The purpose of the pilot study will be to evaluate the feasibility of open label Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in combination with computerized cognitive behavior therapy (cCBT) to maintain wellness following an acute course of Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for up to 6 months.
The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the clinical curative effect of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy(MBCT) for major depressive disorder(MDD). Moreover, we will also explore the relationship between P300 potential and erroneous negative potential (ERN) variation and clinical symptoms in MDD and MBCT. This study is a randomized-control trial with two study arms: half of patient cases will receive usual medication treatment with the serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and half of patient cases will receive MBCT added to the usual medication treatment. This study is also a case-control trial, there will be matched normal controls compared with patient cases through a range of psychological scales and electroencephalogram.
