Filter by:The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of antidepressants on the treatments for non-psychotic major depressive disorder (MDD) in Korea. The study divides MDD patients into 3 level groups according to their past histories to treatments and compares the effectiveness of various treatment regimens at each level. The treatment level groups are: 1) patients who have never been treated with appropriate medications for their current depressive symptoms before, 2) who received an appropriate SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) once but did not respond to it, 3) who received two types of SSRI antidepressant treatments without much effects in reducing their depressive symptoms. The first level group will be treated with a single SSRI antidepressant treatment. The second and third level groups, who received SSRI treatment before, will be treated with alternative SSRI antidepressants (switching), combined multiple SSRI treatments (antidepressant combination), or SSRI treatments combined with mood stabilizer or anti-psychotics (augmentation). This study does not use placebos. Patients will visit 5 times for 6 weeks at each level for treatments. Patients will be evaluated for the severity of depressive symptoms, functional level, and side effects at each visit. Afterwards, the investigations will combine to monitor the patients depressive symptoms in every 3 months for the next 24 months. 18 nationwide university hospitals will participate in this study. This multi-site, prospective, and naturalistic study for patients with depression in Korea is a main project of 'Clinical Research Center for Depression' funded by the Ministry for Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs (MIHWAF) in Korea for a highly-qualified research achievement.
Representative payees, mostly family members, manage Social Security Administration funds of more than one million people with psychiatric disabilities. Although studies show payeeship can be used coercively, foster dependency, reduce work incentives, lead to family conflict and even violence, there has been little systematic research on how to lower these significant barriers to community integration. The investigators' long term goal is to promote recovery among adults with psychiatric disabilities who have payees by reducing downsides associated with what has been called "the nation's largest guardianship system." The investigators' objective in the current application is to evaluate a pilot-tested, stakeholder-informed intervention that is grounded in principles of psychiatric rehabilitation and encourages consumers with psychiatric disabilities and their family members to collaborate within the representative payee arrangement.
The primary goal of the pilot is to test the feasibility and utility of using a text-messaging system to engage adolescents in improved homework adherence during cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for major depressive disorder.
Do functional brain changes occur during Venlafaxine ER (extended release) versus Fluoxetine treatment and do changes in selective structures, such as the amygdala, predict treatment response?
To evaluate the efficacy of SPD489 when used as augmentation to an antidepressant in the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) as measured by mean change in total Montgomery-Ǻsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) scores.
The main objective of this study is to characterize a range of brain activation symptoms associated with major depression in peri- and post-menopausal women. Also, assessing brain activation before and after the treatment might help to uncover some mechanisms associated with the pathophysiology of depression and menopause.
The main objective of this study is to characterize a range of brain activation symptoms associated with depression and response to treatment in midlife men and women with MDD, using MRI and functional MRI. Moreover, in the female sub-group, the investigators will examine whether these brain activation symptoms are related to menopausal symptoms (i.e., hot flashes and night sweats). Also, assessing brain activation before and after the treatment might help to uncover some mechanisms associated with the pathophysiology of depression and menopause.
The primary purpose of this study is to compare the long-term efficacy and safety of desvenlafaxine succinate sustained release versus placebo in adults with Major Depressive Disorder, using a randomized withdrawal design. Randomized withdrawal means that after receiving desvenlafaxine succinate sustained release for a predetermined period of time, subjects will be selected by chance to either continue receiving the study drug or to be withdrawn from the study drug and receive placebo for the remainder of their participation in the trial. Subjects will not know to which group they have been assigned. The study consists of an up to 14-day screening period followed by an 8-week open-label period in which subjects will knowingly receive 50 mg/day of desvenlafaxine succinate sustained release. Subjects who do not respond to treatment, demonstrating no significant change in their depressive symptoms, will be withdrawn from participation at the end of this period. Responding subjects will receive an additional 3 months of open-label desvenlafaxine succinate sustained release at the same dose. Subjects with stable response to treatment at the conclusion of this 3 month period will be randomized to either desvenlafaxine succinate sustained release at 50 mg/day or placebo in a blinded manner for an additional 6 months or until symptoms of depression return. Following discontinuation at any point after enrollment in the study, subjects will receive two weeks of follow-up monitoring, including one week of blinded taper with 25 mg/day of desvenlafaxine succinate sustained release treatment for any subjects who have been taking desvenlafaxine succinate sustained release prior to discontinuation. Subjects assigned to placebo will receive a blinded placebo taper. Following taper, subjects will be evaluated for one additional week to monitor safety.
The purpose of this study is: 1. To determine, in the context of a prospective clinical trial, whether stimulation parameters in PD patients treated with DBS, are associated with antidepressant effects. 2. To determine whether these antidepressant effects are related to or independent of changes in the motor features of PD. 3. To establish a computerized database that includes stimulation parameters and clinical parameters in PD patients treated with DBS. 4. To develop a computer-assisted decision making protocol for programming of DBS parameters in both depressed and non-depressed PD patients.
The primary aim of this study is to examine whether adolescent depression and the family context in which it develops is best treated using an individual adolescent intervention or an intervention that includes both the adolescent and the parents. This will be accomplished by conducting a randomized controlled pilot study of Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depressed Adolescents (IPT-A) in comparison to Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depressed Adolescents and Parents (IPT-AP).
