Filter by:Cortical spreading depolarisations are pathological depolarisation waves that occur frequently after severe acute brain injury and has been associated with poor outcome. S-ketamine has been shown to inhibit cortical spreading depolarisations. The aim of the present study is to examine the efficacy and safety of using S-ketamine for treatment of patients with severe acute brain injury, as well as the feasibility of the trial design.
The investigators will perform follow-up on 250 of 500 cases recruited into the ROSE study of cases with deep and lobar intracerebral hemorrhage to perform advanced neuroimaging at 12-24 months post stroke, and evaluations of motor and cognitive function at baseline, 6 months after baseline, and 12 months after baseline to determine predictors of recovery, progressive cognitive or functional impairment. The investigators propose to leverage the recruitment, DNA, RNA-seq and baseline advanced neuroimaging cohort of ROSE to obtain long-term neuroimaging and identical assessments longitudinally to address critical questions regarding the progressive decline of patients 12 to 24 months post intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) with long term cognitive follow-up to 36 months on average. This proposal would represent the largest, and longest advanced neuroimaging and RNA-sequencing evaluation after ICH to date.
TCM is an essential context of the ICH management in Chinese culture. Given the potential benefits of Chinese herbal medicine FYTF-919 in reducing haematoma and bleeding after acute ICH from fundamental research and small clinical studies, more reliable evidence is required to guide ICH treatment using TCM. This study aims to determine the effectiveness and safety of TCM in a larger sample of patients with moderate-severe ICH and provide evidence for TCM clinical guidelines on ICH management. The presumed mechanism of action is in promoting the reabsorption of the haematoma and perihematomal oedema in ICH.
This first-in-patient phase 2a pilot study will assess the safety and tolerability of MW01-6-189WH (hereafter called MW189) in patients with Intracerebral Hemorrhage (ICH).
The length of prophylactic antibiotic use with antibiotic impregnated External Ventricular Drains (EVD)s is unknown. This study is a randomized clinical trial with two arms: 1. twenty four hours of prophylactic antibiotic use or 2. prophylactic antibiotic use for entire duration of EVD
Music intervention is a non-pharmacological and effective intervention that can alleviate anxiety and agitation in patients undergoing weaning. The effectiveness of music intervention in reducing anxiety of patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is still unknown. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of music intervention on anxiety, agitation, sleep quality and physiological parameters on patients in ICU. This study was conducted from January to June 2019. A total of 196 hospitalized ICU patients were divided into two groups. Subjects in experimental group received 30 minutes music intervention for 3 days on bedside whereas subjects in control group received routine care only. The primary outcome was anxiety. Agitation Sedation Scale, sleep quality and physical parameters were selected to collect as secondary outcomes. There was no significant difference between the groups at baseline. The results of this study support that music can reduce anxiety and agitation levels in ICU's patient. Nurses can incorporate this intervention into the daily care in order to reduce the discomfort of patients.
This is a pragmatic, multi-center, prospective, observational, non-interventional study and standing database of patients hospitalized for transient ischemic attack (TIA) or stroke in the 11 accredited adult neurology training institutions in the Philippines. Data will be collected from each patient while admitted in the hospital and until hospital discharge. Data collection for this study will span 3 years from study initiation, after which the utility of an extension or a re-implementation of the study will be assessed.
The purpose of this study is to test the reliability and validity of an artificial intelligence system and a related 5-score scale to predict hematoma expansion, and conduct a study cohort of intracerebral hemorrhage to screen out imaging and biological markers that could predict hematoma expansion in real-world.
Acute brain injury due to traumatic brain injury (TBI), intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH), and aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) carries a high morbidity and mortality, in part due to the development of secondary brain injury. The mechanisms behind secondary brain injury are incompletely understood, but oxidative/nitrosative stress and disturbances in the metabolism of the vasodilator nitric oxide (NO) are believed to be involved. The aim of the present study is to characterise systemic changes in markers of oxidative/nitrosative stress and NO metabolism in the early phase after acute brain injury, and to examine their relationship to clinical course, neurological outcome, and mortality.
The CASES-TCM study is a prospective, multicenter, observational study, which will enroll 20,000 patients with acute stroke (ischemic stroke or intracerebral hemorrhage) within 7 days of symptom onset. This study attempts to depict major clinical characteristics of acute stroke in patients with Chinese medicine treatment and to explore any difference compared with other non-Chinese medicine use cohorts and the effectiveness and safety of Chinese medicine.
