The Relationship Between Helicobacter Pylori Infection and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: A Real-life Observation

Numerous epidemiological studies have investigated the association between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with various conflicting results. The main objective of this study is to further explore the possible association between H. pylori infection and IBD and its impact on disease course. The investigators sought to conduct a prospective observational study and enroll a total of 182 IBD patients who were screened for H. pylori infection. All the participants will be clinically evaluated at the initial visit and bimonthly for 3 months. Several factors will be explored such are diet, physical activity, life style and considering specific environmental exposures that impact the development of disease or its relapse.

The study will examine the efficacy of an internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT) for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) intervention to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression in individuals with IBD and comorbid clinically elevated t anxiety and/or depressive symptoms. The investigators will conduct a two-arm RCT comparing participants receiving the iCBT intervention (intervention group) and those receiving Treatment As Usual (TAU).

Establishment of the Human Intestinal and Salivary Microbiota Biobank - Gastrointestinal Diseases

This is a prospective, clinical, multicentre study aimed to collect biological samples and study microbiota from subjects with Clostridium Difficile (CDI), subjects affected by Multi Drug Resistant Organisms (MDRO) infection, subjects with Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), subjects with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), subjects with Hepatic Encephalopathy and from healthy volunteers. Microbiota is a complex consortium of microorganisms, located at the mucosal level (in particular intestinal, oral and vaginal) having a key role in human health and in the onset of several diseases. Microbiota alterations have been found in several diseases (gastrointestinal, metabolic, renal, oncological, gynaecological) The study will allow to: - Provide biological samples (faeces, saliva, blood, urine) from healthy volunteers and patients to the first Italian microbiota biobank; - Study microorganisms using different in vitro and in vivo techniques; - Study the link between the microbiota and the disease. This study is part of the BIOMIS project (Project Code: ARS01_01220), presented as part of the "Avviso per la presentazione di progetti di ricerca industriale e sviluppo sperimentale nelle 12 aree di specializzazione individuate dal PNR 2015-2020" and admitted to funding under the National Operational Program "Ricerca e Innovazione" 2014-2020 by directorial decree of MIUR - Department for Higher Education and Research - n. 2298 of 12 September 2018. BIOMIS includes several clinical studies that enrol patients with different pathologies to collect and store biological samples and study microbiota.

Hemorrhoidal surgery is considered potentially harmful in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Patients with Crohn's disease may have ano-perineal involvement during the course of the disease or even before diagnosis. In addition, patients with IBD (Crohn's or RectoColitis Haemorrhagic, UC) may have rectal involvement. In both cases, hemorrhoidal surgery can be harmful to the anorectal level. However, recent data from the literature has proven to be reassuring. Indeed, the latest studies published on this subject have shown that hemorrhoidal surgery can be performed in a large majority of patients with IBD, especially when the disease is quiescent. The main objective is to assess the morbidity of hemorrhoidal surgery in IBD patients who have been operated on at our center. Postoperative complications will be the main elements sought in the study. The secondary objective is to search for predictive factors of complications from hemorrhoidal surgery in patients with IBD. This requires an exhaustive collection of clinical data.

Education Intervention on Vaccination Adherence Among Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Patients

A retrospective chart review and a six-month prospective outcome analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a vaccination education intervention and vaccination adherence among IBD patients at Weill-Cornell Medical Center. It is hypothesized that a general vaccination education campaign will improve vaccination adherence rates for all IBD patients. Secondarily, it is hypothesized that an Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination intervention targeted at high-risk IBD patients will increase vaccination adherence among these patients.

Colorectal Cancer in Crohn's Disease

Retrospective multicentre study. All patients with a diagnosis of Crohn's disease (CD) and operated for colorectal cancer (CRC) between 01/01/2010 and 01/01/2020 will be included in the dataset. Data will include preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative variables, with long term follow up when feasible. The study will focus on a comparison between patients treated with total proctocolectomy (TPC) and patients treated with subtotal colectomy (STC) or segmental resection (SR). Primary endpoints will be oncologic outcomes, postoperative morbidity and mortality. Secondary endpoints include quality of life (QoL).

Physical Fitness Levels in Children and Adolescents With Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Disease (CIBD): Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Chronic Unclassified Colitis

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), including Crohn's disease (CD), ulcerative colitis (UC) and IBD-unclassified (IBD-U), are characterised by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Over the past 50 years, the incidence of IBD has increased globally, with the highest increase in industrialised countries. During the last 25 years, the incidence of IBD has increased dramatically among teenagers in northern France, with an increase of 126% and 156% for CD and UC, respectively. Physical fitness is a set of attributes related to a person's ability to perform physical activities that require aerobic capacity, endurance, strength or flexibility and is determined by a combination of regular physical activity and genetically inherited ability. Physical fitness, widely recognised as an important health determinant, plays an important role in growth and development. Due to the evidence-based importance of physical fitness for young people's health status, attention should be paid to the assessment of physical fitness at these ages and whatever the health status. At this time, there is no study on the assessment of physical fitness in IBD pediatric patient.
