Filter by:Tenofovir (TDF) has been demonstrated to have potency antiviral against the hepatitis B virus (HBV) in various multiple-centre trials, with no cases of resistance encountered. However, its efficacy and resistance profile in the Asian population, which constitute the majority of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients, is unknown. Compared to other nucleoside analogues, TDF has been associated with relatively high rates of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroclearance. It would be interested to see if this could be reproduced. The investigators plan to report the serologic and virologic results of our 140 nucleoside analogue-experienced patients who were commenced on TDF.
The aim of the study is to confirm efficacy and safety of treatment with 600 mg of BID BI 207127 in combination with 120 mg QD FDV and RBV for 16 or 24 weeks in target chronically infected HCV GT1b treatment naïve patients, including patients with compensated cirrhosis.

The standard treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection is pegylated interferon alpha combined with ribavirin. Anaemia is a common complication occurring in up to 30% of subjects. Unfortunately, side effects of interferon and ribavirin therapy can require dose reductions, reducing the likelihood of sustained viral response. Recent data shows that interferon alpha may increase hepcidin (a key iron regulator) production, resulting in impaired iron availability for production of red blood cells. In this study, we will evaluate hepcidin levels in 30 patients with Hepatitis C who are treated with interferon containing regimes. If hepcidin plays a role in interferon-induced anaemia, cheap and readily available oral hepcidin inhibitors could be trialled to potentially reduce the impact of interferon alpha induced anaemia.
Individuals with serious mental illnesses (SMI) face high rates of medical comorbidity as well as challenges in managing these conditions. A growing workforce of certified peer specialists is available to help these individuals more effectively manage their health and health care. However, there is little existing research examining the effectiveness of peer-led medical self-management programs for this population. in this trial, participants were randomized to either the Health and Recovery Peer program (HARP), a medical disease self-management program led by certified peer specialists, or to care as usual. Assessments were conducted at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months.
