The present research aims to collect virological and clinical data on hepatitis E virus (HEV) infections, either in acute or chronic forms of HEV infection in North-Eastern France, with liver- or non liver-related symptoms, plus data on HEV circulation in the outside environment. The purpose of this study is to improve the diagnosis and care of HEV-infected patients, as well as the preventive features to take into account in order to avoid food- and environment-borne infections. At last, we will investigate HEV molecular characteristics, with the hypothesis that some advantageous HEV strains coul be more pathogenic for some tissues and/or organs.

A Study of the Use of Hepatitis C Positive Donors for Hepatitis C Negative Lung Transplant Recipients With Post-transplant Treatment With Mavyret

Patients who are Hepatitis C Negative (HCV negative) and are on the waiting list for a lung transplant at NYULH who consent to participate in this study will receive a lung transplant from a deceased donor that is HCV positive. Patients will initiate treatment for HCV with the pan-genotypic agent, Mavyret, on the day of surgery and will complete the full 8-week treatment course. Patients will be monitored post-transplant for the development of viremia, and for the time course of clearance of viremia among those who develop viremia.

People With CHC Who Achieved a Sustained Virological Response Following Therapy With Direct Acting Antiviral Agents

Background: Chronic hepatitis C infects the liver. It may scar the liver. This is called cirrhosis and may lead to liver cancer or death. Current chronic hepatitis C treatments cure most people. But some keep getting complications even after it is cured. Researchers want to study why. Objective: To study the course and complications of liver disease after cure of hepatitis C infection. Eligibility: Adults 18 years and older infected with chronic hepatitis C virus who were never treated or were treated and not cured and those who were cured Design: Participants will be screened with: Blood and urine tests Questionnaires Liver ultrasound Fibroscan. A probe vibrates the liver, testing stiffness. In Phase 1, people with chronic hepatitis C will: Have a 3-day hospital admission to repeat some screening tests and have a liver biopsy. A small piece of liver is removed by needle passed through the skin. Take 1 tablet containing 2 hepatitis C drugs once a day for 12 weeks. Repeat some blood tests at 3 visits in those 12 weeks while on treatment, then 4 additional visits in the next 24 weeks with more blood work collected. Phase 1 participants who test negative for hepatitis C and all other eligible participants will enter Phase 2. Phase 2 participants will have a visit every 24 weeks for 10 years. These may include: Repeats of screening tests Questionnaires Scans Stool tests Chest x-ray Heart function test Endoscopy. A tube guides a camera into the upper digestive system. At about 5 years, participants will have another liver biopsy. Some participants will give separate consent for genetic testing and a special blood procedure.

Effectiveness of the Hepatitis B Vaccine Post-Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant

Background: Stem cell transplants (SCTs) are important in treating many diseases. There are two main types of transplants. Autologous stem cells come from the person getting the cells. Allogeneic stem cells come from another person. The risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) is high after allogeneic SCT. Even if a person receives the HBV vaccine after transplant, he or she may not really be immune to HBV. The person may become immune only after repeated series of the vaccine. Researchers need to learn more about the HBV vaccine in people after transplant so it can be most effective. Objective: To assess the rate of achieved HBV immunity for people who had an SCT who did not become immune with the first vaccine series and require 2 or more series. Eligibility: People who have had at least 1 dose of the HBV vaccine and were enrolled in these protocols: 99-H-0050, 10-H-0154, and 08-H-0046 Design: Participants will be screened in the other protocols. Participants data and medical charts will be reviewed. Data from up to 350 participants who had transplants before March 2016 will be reviewed.
