Filter by:Men who have sex with men (MSM) who cured from hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection are at substantial risk of HCV reinfection. In this study, the investigators aim to evaluate the effectiveness of an online behavioural intervention, a home-based testing intervention and a combination of both on risk behaviour, and ultimately preventing HCV reinfection and onward spread of HCV.
The main purpose of the study is to compare the efficacy of two strategies aimed to rescue patients lost to follow-up with active infection or with positive HCV antibodies without RNA request to complete evaluation and prescription of treatment in cases of chronic infection. After patient identification from data files of laboratory and microbiology charts, patients will be randomized to: a) phone call, and b) invitation letter, both of two strategies including a scheduled appointment with the hepatologist.
This study evaluates the sensitivity and specificity performance of three Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) in freshly collected fingerstick whole blood, as well as serum and plasma (Premier Medical Corporation First Response HCV RDT; Beijing Wantai HCV RDT; AccessBio Care Start HCV under development). Performance is compared to the SD Bioline HCV RDT, as well as a composite reference standard, consisting of two enzyme Immunoassay and a line immunoassay.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that emergency departments (EDs) and other health care facilities conduct HIV and HCV screening to identify and link to care those with undiagnosed infections. Screening for both infections in EDs is preferable due to: the shared overlap of some risk behaviors for HIV and HCV acquisition (e.g., drug use) the relatively high co-occurrence of these infections in some populations the more complex medical needs and worse sequelae for those co-infected, and efficiency. Although some EDs have experimented with dual HIV and HCV screening, best practices on how to conduct screening so as to maximize patient screening uptake have yet to be identified. In this pilot RCT, the investigators will examine the efficacy of the persuasive health communication intervention in convincing adult ED patients who decline rapid HIV/HCV screening to be tested for these infections. Adult ED patients who decline rapid HIV/HCV screening will be randomly assigned to the ED medical staff arm or the HIV/HCV counselor arm. Within each arm, participants further will be randomly assigned to receive the persuasive health communication intervention or to watch a CDC HIV/HCV testing brochures-based video. Following the intervention or control condition, all participants will be offered rapid HIV/HCV testing again.
This study investigates hepatitis C virus (HCV) outbreak in South West general population in Burkina Faso with three specific objectives: estimate HCV prevalence in South West Region general population in 2019; identify factors associated with recent HCV infection (in subjects younger than 20 years); and evaluate the pilot treatment strategy implemented by the national program for diagnosed cases during investigation.
This study will test the effects of an intervention to reduce substance use and related harms among people leaving rural jails or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system. This study will compare people in a health linkage intervention with people who will get overdose (OD) education. Everyone will take part in the baseline and follow-up surveys and receive OD education. Participants will be assigned to one of the two groups by chance based on when they are enrolled to the study and if their county is randomly assigned to an intervention or a comparison condition. By doing this study, the investigators hope to learn if providing linkage to health services along with HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), and overdose education to people leaving rural jails or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system will reduce substance use and related harms.
