NCT ID: NCT00000473 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Do Fish Oils Prevent Restenosis Post-Coronary Angioplasty?

Start date: July 1989
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To determine whether a dietary supplement of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) derived from fish oil would decrease the restenosis rate in patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).

NCT ID: NCT00000472 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Thrombolysis in Myocardial Ischemia Trial (TIMI III)

Start date: April 1989
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The Thrombolysis in Myocardial Ischemia Trial (TIMI III) focused on unstable angina and non-Q-wave myocardial infarction. The trial was designed to determine by coronary arteriography the incidence of coronary thrombi in these conditions and the response of these thrombi to tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) in TIMI IIIA and the effects of thrombolytic therapy and of an early invasive strategy on clinical outcome in TIMI IIIB. There was also a registry with two components. A roster enumerated all patients with unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction enrolled at cooperating hospitals. From the roster, a study population of 1,893 subjects was selected and followed prospectively for the year to determine incidence of death or myocardial infarction.

NCT ID: NCT00000471 Completed - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Lifestyle Heart Trial

Start date: April 1989
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

To assess long-term effects of a strict lifestyle change program on lipids, blood pressure, myocardial perfusion, and coronary atherosclerosis.

NCT ID: NCT00000470 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Infant Heart Surgery: Central Nervous System Sequelae of Circulatory Arrest

BCAS
Start date: December 1988
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To compare the influence of two surgical anesthetic techniques, hypothermia with circulatory arrest or hypothermia with low-flow bypass perfusion, on neurologic functioning in infants undergoing heart surgery.

NCT ID: NCT00000469 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Asymptomatic Carotid Artery Plaque Study (ACAPS)

Start date: May 1988
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

To determine whether warfarin or lovastatin alone or in combination retarded the progression of atherosclerotic plaques in the carotid arteries of high risk individuals with asymptomatic carotid stenosis. Also, to determine if a full scale trial was feasible.

NCT ID: NCT00000468 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Myocardial Infarction Triage and Intervention Project (MITI)

Start date: April 1988
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To determine the practicality, benefit, and safety of paramedic administration of thrombolytic therapy for acute myocardial infarction. The feasibility of paramedics correctly identifying candidates for thrombolytic therapy following myocardial infarction was assessed in Phase I. In Phase II, pre-hospital thrombolytic therapy was compared with in-hospital thrombolytic therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00000467 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Child and Adolescent Trial for Cardiovascular Health (CATCH)

Start date: September 1987
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To assess the effectiveness of school-based risk reduction interventions involving three components: environmental changes related to food consumption, physical activity, and smoking policy in the school; classroom curriculum; and family and home-based education.

NCT ID: NCT00000466 Completed - Hypertension Clinical Trials

Postmenopausal Estrogen/Progestin Interventions (PEPI)

Start date: September 1987
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To assess the effects of various postmenopausal estrogen replacement therapies on selected cardiovascular risk factors, including high density lipoprotein cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, fibrinogen, and insulin and on osteoporosis risk factors. Conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, and the National Institute on Aging. The extended follow-up is for 3 years focusing on endometrium and breast evaluation.

NCT ID: NCT00000465 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Emory Angioplasty Versus Surgery Trial (EAST)

Start date: June 1987
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To compare the efficacy of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery with percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) in patients with multiple vessel coronary heart disease.

NCT ID: NCT00000464 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Cardiac Arrest in Seattle: Conventional Versus Amiodarone Drug Evaluation (CASCADE)

Start date: April 1987
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To compare the efficacy of amiodarone to conventional anti-arrhythmic therapy in individuals who had survived one episode of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
